Get the tasting menu! Delicious- and a good price if you want to try everything. Attentive service makes it even better.
Pan con tomate was the real deal... thank you!
Diacos and Luis were great. Food was excellent as well as drinks.
My family got together for the holidays and my nephew is going to study in Spain so I thought this would be the perfect meal together and it was. As a restaurant manager at Bistro Campagne, I can honestly say that everything was perfect. Jane was a spectacular as a server. So attentive and willing to work with us. I appreciated the ease with which the restaurant accommodated a guest with a wheelchair. We will be back!
Food was mediocre at best. Service was inattentive. When we arrived we could not get the hostesses to stop talking to one another in order to seat us so we gave us and went to the bar for a drink then tried again later. Certainly not worth the price tag.
Service and atmosphere were outstanding. Food was great for the price point. Outstanding gin and tonic.
Delicious food! We ordered the tasting menu and the red wine sangria. It was authentic Spanish cuisine. Felt lucky to have dined at this lovely restaurant.
Birthday dinner! The ambiance and food exceeded our expectations. The service was impeccable with every attention to detail tended to. I will definitely be back! Plus, I am recommending to our foodie friends!
Dined here for the 3rd time on Sunday,12/29/19 after watching Hamilton with a special new awesome friend of mine! This was his first time here (I last dined here twice during the early to mid 2000s)—we had an awesome meal here! Our server, Doc, was very attentive, pleasant, efficient, and knowledgeable; he recommended this awesome red wine for our dinner—which, in turn, consisted of Branzino (Mediterranean sea bass), Cochinillo (roast pig) and pulpo (octopus)! The portions were quite wonderfully and unexpectedly large, so we were actually full from those 3 items and the awesome wine! We would definitely come back! The food, service and ambience have remained consistently GREAT over all the decades Mercat has been around!!
Friendly, quick service. Attentive. Food was average at best. Suspect much of it cooked from frozen/Sysco. Very overpriced across board.
The customer service was excellent and the food was over the moon. Would definitely recommend and we will be back.
I went with a friend on Christmas Day and we had the Tasting Menu rather than the Christmas menu, mostly because we wanted paella. I believe the paella on the Christmas menu was offered but was quail and mushrooms which did not appeal to us. The Tasting menu was fantastic. We liked all the tapas and the paella. The paella was a large portion, possibly full size, which we did not expect. We were pretty full by that point so my friend took it home. I would definitely recommend!
It’s pretty, service is excellent. It’s just not authentic. Spanish food that is Americanized isn’t worth that much money. Paella was extraordinarily salty too.
The service was awful. For the prices, service should have been top notch. I was very disappointed, because this was a special dinner for my birthday with a nice stay at the hotel. The food was good, but over priced for what we got.
Absolutely a must stop while visiting downtown Chicago.
Nice atmosphere, good cocktails and excellent food. May be the best paella i have had in the city!!
Very convenient for a concert and tapas allows you to eat a lot or a little!
Christmas family dinner before attending the performance of The Nutcracker at Auditorium Theatre. The short rib cannoli was outstanding as was the cheese plate. Everything we had was very good. Service was attentive & timely. Good atmosphere.
We enjoyed the tasting menu. This place is great for people that are open minded foodies. All ingredients are good and fresh. The paella is the best that I have ever had. Be prepared to take food home. Each portion other than the paella are small, but there are enough courses that you will leave full.
Amazing service and meal. “Tasting menu” highly recommended.
good tapas fare. wonderful ambiance, service, and food quality. a bit pricey compared to other tapas places in the city but not so surprising given the locality
Some good dishes here and some misses. We liked the bacon-wrapped dates, the chili oil shrimp and a chicken dish. However, the glass of wine one of our group of four ordered was off, perhaps opened too long ago - the replacement glass poured from a newly opened bottle was much better. We ordered two of the same salad, supposedly a spinach/serrano ham/fig salad. One came with spinach, ham and big chunks of bacon, the other with just spinach and ham - and neither had any figs. The croquetas we ordered supposedly had chicken and ham in them, but all we could taste or see was potatoes and cheese - perhaps an order misunderstanding as there were two or three types on the menu. Overall, a good location for Auditorium Theater dining but for the price, we expected a bit more.
I might recommend to a friend , but the portions are tiny so you will spend a lot to get a decent sized meal.
The service was horrible and the food was disgusting -
Paella lobster for $75 was tasteless. As a whole the tapas is way overpriced
Great food !! Nice wine list with good cocktails. Comfortable vibe. We come here once a year but have decided to frequent it more often
Dined here before seeing the Nutcracker at Auditorium Theater.
A perfect spot for dinner before the ballet.
Had not been to Mercat for 10 years.
Food, service, and ambience was great.
We were really excited about eating here and heard they sat large groups of people. We went to the restaurant and asked the waitress if she could split our bills because of the way we need to invoice them. She made the whole process unbearable, huffing and puffing every time she came back to the table. All we wanted was a last dinner for our work group and we got a nightmare. Otherwise the food was amazing!!!
The tapas and wine this time were exceptional. The service was awesome.
Great tasting menu. Just the right amount of everything from beginning to end.
Food was mediocre and overpriced. Shrimp was overcooked, most dishes were under seasoned. Service was great. Sound didn’t travel well in the space, I could barely hear the other person at my table.
Always a pleasure
This the noise level was a bit high
The dessert came late but the server tried to make it up by giving us free drinks while we waited and also made sure that the dessert was on-the-house. It was a little too dark where we sat (the one little candle we had on the table wasn’t that helpful). Food was delicious!!!
Great Tapas restaurant! Fun atmosphere and a great location. This was my second time dining here, we brought our kids (5, 11 & 13) Unfortunately, this time there were a lot of issues with our service. Very long wait times and therefore things arrived in an odd order, for example our bread for the charcuterie arrived 15 plus minutes before the charcuterie arrived. We were often told things were on the way but they didn't arrive. Overall, the food was great and we had a nice family dinner.
Great food and service. Tapas Portions are large.
Day before Thanksgiving / family meal
Great food and great sangria. Was originally planning on just having drinks and appetizers here, but ultimately stayed and were very happy that we did.
Each of our dishes were delicious. They were mainly fish; branzino. octopus and croquettes, were very well prepared and flavorful.
Love this place! It’s being a regular go-to for us. Branzino is a must...!
Our server was attentive and helpful in making suggestions for the table. We were there with our kids (which was unusual, as the crowd skews older as a general rule), and everyone really enjoyed the meal and the menu.
