Friends were visiting from Atlanta and expressed an interest in getting some Mexican food... I'd always wanted to try Mercado, so bingo!
We sat at one of the communal tables and started with some wonderful cocktails and a shared appetizer. The guacamole was terrific and so was the queso! Next, we moved onto entrees... Phenomenal all. I thoroughly enjoyed the carnitas and everyone else was happy with their choices as well.
Finally, we opted for a couple of desserts to share. The tres leches cake and the flan. Both were decadent and wonderful. The flan was without question the best I've ever had.
Looking forward to visiting Mercado again. Thanks for a wonderful experience!
Reservations at this restaurant should note that they are for communal tables, which is obviously offputting.
The food was amazing. The service was great. The food was so good that I was kinda sad when I was finnished, I wanted it to last forever.
Mercado used to be great. The food is still a solid ‘B’ but the ambience has become unbearable. It’s full of 20-something Silicon Beach brats yapping about their first jobs ad nauseum. Can’t stand it and won’t be going back.
Fantastic food with delectable drinks. Everything we tried was delicious. The service was great and very accommodating. Really can’t wait to go back!
Jc is awesome
Amazing as always!
Our server was courteous, and very informative about the menu. I'd reccomend this place to anyone wanting authentic mexican food.
Creative and delicious modern Mexican. Small-ish dining room, but perfect for a bustling Saturday date night or out with friends. Amazing cocktails!
Great Margaritas, delicious guacamole with a lot of big pieces of avocado. Normally, i don’t have flan but when one of our entrees was cold, they brought a new hot one and gave us a complimentary dessert. Coffee was also good. Great service, everyone was friendly
Good food, but had to wait for hostess to come to front of restaurant and then she sat us near entrance when there were many tables available in the nicer upstairs section.
What a gem!! From the maitre d’ at arrival through the last sip of coffee this restaurant is a jewel.
Loved the location, great service, noise level (not bad even with bad hearing). The food was good, almost very good. It depends on your level of expertise and travel. I've been to Oaxaca, so I'm spoiled. I liked their take on the dishes and the freshness of the food. I would go again, but it was a bit spendy, so I'll probably only go if we split the check or just with my husband.
Maybe it’s just Santa Monica in general but the servers at Mercado are rude beyond belief. Minimum wage at $15 plus tips gets a server annual wage close to $100k. Lots of over educated actor wannabes frustrated with their station in life and content to treat the customer like crap. If you order a cocktail (margarita) the first one will be all ice in a small glass. The 2nd will be more properly balanced. The food is ok. Expect to be upsold into a dish you really didn’t want but which maximizes the tip. Get me out of SO CAL ASAP.
The food was DELICIOUS! So we’re the margaritas! Love happy hour!
The dip trio and corn apps were great
The pork was delicious and a good value but disappointed in the shrimp tacos. Even though it was an app, it was small.
Our server was amazing! She had great recommendations. Wish the scallops are still on the menu though :(
Food was outstanding! Queso dip trio was delicious. Chips were homemade and yummy!
The food is always wonderful but what makes Mercado incredible is the service. All the servers are incredibly friendly, attentive, and fun. I always leave Mercado thinking that was the nicest waiter I have ever had! Saturday night's server connected with our entire table --- bravo to management for the selection of the nicest people ever who know what service is! In short, we love Mercado Santa Monica.
We got the worst table in the house. It was insulting.
I’ve noticed that on open table reservations, the table where I am seated is usually in a less than ideal position I.e.
In LA for business and the team and I went out for a group dinner. We were a group of 6. We ordered two dip duos, each consisting of guacamole, queso, salsa and tortilla chips - all of the aforementioned were hits. We also ordered some of the cauliflower and elote, both were incredibly delicious! I personally ordered the chicken for my entree, very tasty.
We also all ordered cocktails. All were enjoyed by our group.
For dessert, we got the flan & Mexican hot chocolate ice cream. Neither of which were big hits amongst the group.
Recommend ordering all the starters and sides and skipping the dessert.
Great food, fun atmosphere, a little disfunction the hostess kiosk
Really good food and great cocktails, lovely and buzzy dining room - great for couples
They simply don’t know how to make carnitas / dry!
Our res was at 8pm and we were not seated until 9pm, the restaurant was rude and not accommodating.
4 of us went to celebrate my friend’s birthday! We had so much fun! Our server was very attentive and personable. She even made a “last call” for happy hour, which was very considerate. The food was delicious and I will definitely be going back!
Great place to hang out after work or a day at the beach. Great ambiance with hip music and a variety of drinks. If you like tequila there are plenty of options to choose from. Food portions are reasonable so pace yourself with the chips and guacamole. Love the happy hour menu options, my favorite is the ceviche tostadas!
Great food and drinks. Our table was on the Mezzanine level which was Great because it was less noisy and not as crowded as the main level. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and conversation.
Excellent margaritas. Get the carnitas. Busy night but the service was on the market.
The waiter was a bit rude at the beginning, and then closed our bill without asking about dessert or checking in with us at the end. There was some issue with the bill splitting (which ended up in our favour), but it seemed disorganized. Food - especially the guacamole - was good.
Horrible service ruined the experience
I forgot to take my card after signing, and nobody called after picking up the check so I could come back for my card. I found my card missing the following day and had to wait til restaurant opened to hear that it was indeed there.
Food is not very good. Service is good , setting is good
Restaurant is WAY TOO DARK! Everyone has to use their cell phone light to see the menu.
btw...I loved the kale salad.
the best Mexican food ever! It is our go-to spot for delicious, fun food and drinks. We love Yxta also and Maradentro. Bravo to the entire organization!
Overall enjoyed however my food was not very warm. The guacamole was great and food was good except for temperature. A complimentary dessert would have been nice given it was a birthday celebration.
We were seated upstairs in a booth that sort of overlooked the first level, which is filled with banquette tables. It was really loud and dark. It’s a fun atmosphere. The servers were all nice and friendly. The food is good (a little spicy), but a little pricey.
