Mercadito - River North Ratings and Reviews
My Fiance and I took my parents here on valentines day. We got the special menu with 5 course meal, which I wasn't told was mandatory when booked, but i guess it was worth it. I was hesitant at first because we had 3 vegetarians in the group and 45$ per person seemed way too much. I still wish they offered a cheaper menu for vegetarians but we didn't think it would be appropriate to leave around once we sat. We felt our hands were tied. All in all the food and experience was worth it.
I have been to this place many times and the food, service and ambiance is always on point.
Food was very good. The music was loud and silly American oldies. Where is the Latin music?? Went for Valentine’s Day. $200 for the two of us. Drinks are $14 each, but nothing special. Service was fast, again nothing special. On a trip to the restroom, the food runners were oblivious of my presence and I was bumped into not once, but twice. Glad I went, I’m in no rush to go back.
One of the best, well run restaurants I've ever been to! We arrived early for our reservation time and were seated immediately. Appetizer, dinner and drinks and plenty of time to visit and we were finished and heading out the door in an hour. The chicken tacos and quac were the best I've ever had! My mouth waters at the memory of them. The traditional margarita was exceptionally good too. Be aware of items on the menu that don't have a price listed. The small margaritas were $14. I would say they were worth it though.Go and try them for yourself. Be aware, that it is a crowded, noisy environment.
Our server did not tell us his name and was not very attentive. He seemed like he didn't want to be there and the bussers/server assistants were more attentive with cleaning our table and refilling our water than our server was. We also felt awkward staring from other staff members. I wont complain about the pricing because the food was amazing and it is located in Chicago so expensive menus are typical but $11 for like 8 bites of guacamole? Really?
Went for dinner date for Chicago’s restaurant week. Seating was too tight, could not even communicate with my partner sitting across the table. There was table right next to me on left and right side. Had to squeeze in even to get in and take a seat. There was no space to leave coat or purse forget enough space to even seat. Food was just okay for the price we paid. They ran of dessert in the end so basically we were forced to have what was left. Overall not a very good experience. Will not try it again.
We did not like the restaurant's policy for not seating if the entire party is not present.
We inquired a couple of time and we were seated with 3/4 of our party in attendance.
The restaurant is very noisy. Hard to hear other people at our table. Great food and cocktails and good service. Our server was very accommodating.
Things started out well but didn't last. Yes we were seated quickly and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu. However after taking our orders he disappeared . He never served us our food and it took us almost 3 hours to eat and get our bill. Honestly I think he forgot about us. 2 different couples were seated next to us and were served and finished with their meals before we ever got our deserts which we only recived 1 but ordered 2. The food was fine but we won't be back. Very disappointing
HUGE BIRTHDAY DISAPPOINTMENT! Our waiter was Ralphael. HE WAS HORRIFIC!! We came to celebrate a double birthday and THIS was BOTH our first time here. HIS service was RUDE, QUICK, NEVER CAME BACK for check, water and didn't allow me to do what we CAME for brunch for restaurant week! He stated brunch had to be 2 people. He made is go look for him at the hostess desk after 30 minutes of cleared table and NO check! He NEVER apologized and the food rice & beans were cold as well as my shrimp tacos. I HATED MY EXPERIENCE THERE! $37 OF NEGLECTFUL SERVICE! The ONLY thing beautiful was the restaurant's decor.
Special 3 course menu offered. Food was very good, but service was spotty. Our food came out of sequence with one person’s appetizer served at the same time as the other’s entree, then the other appetizer served with the other person’s entree coming soon after. All were nice, but seemed disjointed
Birthday weekend... we got to place an order of the guacamole and a drink. The waitress later came and asked if we were ready to order anything else we said yes placed an order of one of the ceviches it took about 20 min when they were already bringing us the bill when we had not even got our ceviche order. We were excited to try this place to be disappointed once there.
Julio C. was a great server. I love when waiters give their honest opinion and don't steer you wrong. I want to eat great food. Awesome experience! Traditional guac was the best but Granada was a nice switch up.
Get the pork belly tacos!
Nice twist on brussel sprouts. Wish they'd been roasted or sautéed longer. The goat's milk caramel flan was SWEET but the small portion made it just right
It’s Restaurant Week in Chicago! So we took advantage of the special menu offered up which gave us a sample of a number of dishes. The Traditional Guacamole, and Pineapple Guacamole were excellent, served with warm chips. The shrimp ceviche was fresh. But, the four tacos were quite salty—so it was a good thing cocktails were included in the set menu! Try the refreshing Little Market cocktail with a spicy salt on one side of the rim, or their traditional Margarita! About 6:30 pm temperatures rose with activity as the volume adjusted to high along with their eclectic playlist! (One baby slept through it all !) This was business and pleasure—celebrating a special birthday, and the server added a candle to the flan. I wish our stomachs were able to accommodate all the offerings. Jared was a fun, attentive server!
Service was really excellent considering it was a busy Saturday night. Our drinks came out quickly and the hand made Margaritas was outstanding.
The stars of the show are the mini tacos served on corn tortillas, no flour. The fillings ate abundant including Lobster. Couples should split the orders so they can order two different styles.
