The drinks and food was absolutely delicious...especially the lobster tacos! The place is a little pricey but for location, food, and service is worth it.
Great energy and food, every time we visit. The drinks are strong. For the best experience though always make a reservation.
Restaurant was very loud, but the food and the service were excellent, would go back in a heartbeat!
Lobster tacos were excellent, salsa Verdi was very was good just kinda expensive @ three dollars an ounce
Somewhat pricey, but absolutely delicious! We have been here several times. The "Little Market" is great!
I come here every time I visit Chicago. Without fail.
Food was fantastic and our waiter suggestions were spot on.
Interesting drinks and a very good assortment of tequilas
The place is a bit too noisy though, I was looking forward catching up with friend I haven't seen in a while and wanted to enjoy the conversation but the place was noisy for that so probably good for other type of occasions
Great food, great service. I suggest a reservation 😃you will not be disappointed.
The worst service I've ever experienced. We were seated and after a few minutes the waiter came and asked if we would lile an appetizer. I proceeded to tell him I had the coupon for free guac and chips. He stormed away with an attitude and never asked for our drink order. Someone else brought our chips out...we ate them all..and still no drink order out in. So after 20 mins of waiting for the waiter I put my coat on and we were leaving...he sees us getting ready to leave and proceeds to ask us "you ready" I said yea...we were ready 20 mins ago...now we are ready to leave. We will give it another try because the guac was good. But service leaves something to be desired.
It was ok we didn’t care for the 1/4 cup of salsa and guacamole to share with 4 people.
The service at mercadito has been and continues to be mediocre at best. They are no where near excellent service, nor do they try to be. When the bartender quoted me a higher price than listed on the menu he said verbatim “that’s with tax, welcome to Chicago.” After having checked my ID and seeing I was from Chicago, it seemed unnecessary and rude but par for the course for River North. Our waiter wasn’t much better, basically phoned it in and hurried us along. I felt our bill just went towards whatever astronomical rent they pay and not towards service. I’ve learned my lesson!
Great food. Good service with knowledgeable servers.
Great food, but too noisy, almost impossible to talk to your dining guest. The place needs some acoustic panels for noise.
Fun lively vibe. Fresh delicious tacos. House margaritas were a little too sweet. Sooo noisy, you can barely hold a conversation but if that’s not your goal (e.g., business meeting), then no worries. I’d go again for sure!
One of my favorite go-to places. Always great food and drink. Fair warning: very loud.
Food tasty. A bit loud for quiet conversations. Individual shared plate items are on the pricey side.
Love Mercadito!! I'm sorry that I keep saying that it's a Rick Bayless restaurant because it's not.
We had the carnitas and grilled seafood taquizas, both of which were delicious and sized correctly. Platanos and rice/bean sides were perfect as well. Had the smoky pablo margarita, which was terrific. I consider the quality/quantity/value balance to be just right, as long as you don’t compare this carefully prepared cuisine to generic Tex-Mex slop you can get anywhere.
Tania took such good care of us! Her recommendations were spot on! She was attentive and super friendly. The food was out of this world. Highly recommend to anyone in Chicago!
We came here for my 30th birthday. We made reservations and were quickly seated. I absolutely love this place! The food was awesome as well as the service & atmosphere. I definitely recommend & will go back next time I visit Chicago.
I love this place!! My third time here and I had been jonesing for a Misty's Sleeve, big time. The food is fresh and fantastic and could not be any better. My only issue was that the place was crazy busy and packed. I arrived at 7:55pm for an 8:00 reservation when there were empty tables and the hostess would not seat me even though my friends were enroute and arrived at 8:05. Within 10 mins the place filled up and when I checked in again for our table the same hostess told me that we had to wait. We didn't get seated until 8:30.... totally aggravating!! If you are a walkin waiting for others to arrive that's one thing, but I had been in communication with my friends and knew they would arrive in minutes. Bad call, hostess!!
Excellent food and margaritas. Outstanding service!
The food and drinks were good. My only complaint is the music was a little too loud, felt like I had to yell in order for the waiter and my friends to here me every time I talked.
Had an awesome meal. Mango guacamole is my favorite. Swordfish tacos are amazing. Drinks are absolutely awesome too.
Excruciatingly Loud. Food and service were good
Great staff, great food, and great atmosphere, will definitely return next time in the Windy City.
Update online info about happy hour. Was very disappointed in learning the days I thought happy hour occurred (Tuesday through Friday) was wrong. Update online info! Make it clear!
Food was very good and atmosphere was awesome!
My girlfriends and I traveled to Chicago this past weekend for a girls trip. We dined at Mercadito on Saturday night. We absolutely loved everything! The margaritas were top notch! We will definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends and family traveling to the city and I think it's safe to say we will all be back!
My birthday! Loved the environment and food. Food a bit overpriced for the portions you’re getting. The bar below for a good time dancing afterwards was great.
We went to Mercadito for our anniversary, we don’t get into the city very often and were in the mood for some good tacos. Mercadito is an energetic, really cool spot. I agree with previous reviews that the place definitely isn’t a place to have private serious conversations, the music is quite loud. But the atmosphere was fun. The food came very quickly, which was appreciated but kind of surprising, the meal barely took an hour between seating and check. We ordered the toreado guacamole and the tomatillo salsa. The salsa came in the tiniest little container I’ve ever seen, which I get it it’s only $3 but most Mexican restaurants give you salsa and chips for free so that was disappointing. The guacamole was delicious and very spicy, but definitely not worth $11. Our tacos were fantastic, we ordered carne and estillo de baja (battered mahi mahi) tacos. The portions on the tacos were good and the flavors were on point. I was really disappointed with the rice and beans side (that we had to order extra). For $6 we got the tiniest portion of rice and beans, and the rice didn’t even have any flavor! It was plain, dry, salted white rice with some frozen veggies in it (I know they were frozen because the carrots were cubed). So overall, the tacos were good and the service was fast, but what you get for the high price isn’t worth it for the sides. I would not recommend for a special occasion, but rather for a quick date.
Good drinks and food...however EVERYTHING is a la carte down to the salsa or sauce that goes with your chips or tacos 🙄
Amazing drinks and food!! The margarita is incredible!
Our family went (2 adults, 6 and 8 year old) and ate here for dinner. The noise level was pretty high, but we enjoyed the atmosphere. There wasn’t a kids meal, but were able to find something for them to eat. They tried to accommodate my allergies of gluten and dairy. It was super good!! I was impressed with the taste. Great place to eat.
It was excellent! :) We went before a show and it was the perfect dinner before! We also could leave our car parked there while we went to our show!
I've now had every taco on their menu at some point and can say with no doubt, order tacos.
Other than being a bit loud and close to your neighbor we really liked Mercadito. The food was excellent and our margaritas were tasty.
Noisy, food average and rarher expensive for the qualitu
Food was very tasty, but overall too pricey for what it is. The service was fine, good crowd , it was really loud, which was good for us since we were dining w kids.
