Mercadito - River North

This was not only a wonderful Culinary Experience, but the service and ambiance matched the quality and flavors of the foods we chose. By far, my favorite item was the Specialty Cucumber drink with the Cumin Salt on the rim! Totally delicious and refreshing!!!
Food and drinks were excellent. Noise level was off the hook loud. If you enjoy yelling at your dinner companion(s) while you dine, then this place will satisfy.
The menu has changed and the tacos just don't taste as good as they used to a few years ago. I have been a fan of Mercadito for 6 years, when my work friends introduced me to the great food and happy hour downstairs. Then, as. River North neighbor, I enjoyed the take-out counter on Clark Street and ordered 2xs a week, also through Fooda. I don't like the food anymore and the patio service was infrequent and not like previous experiences. Unless Mercadito menu does an overall and a PR campaign, I'm out from going again.
Really fun, energetic place with a great vibe. Food was excellent, so fresh, and the beer was cold. Decor is beautiful & unique, almost like an art installation, our server Jasmine was fantastic, and we enjoyed a chat with the manager too. Was a little pricey, but the experience more than made up for it. Totally enjoyable visit for an accidental find!
Great service, a little loud, outstanding drinks, good food
it was a very nice Mexican restaurant, food was good, drink specials were great, and space was great for a date spot.
Great Mexican food. Best tortilla soup I’ve had.
Our server was great! One of our party had asked if onions could be left out of the guacamole. Even though she couldn’t our server had the onions on all our tacos separated out without us asking or reminding her! Food was delicious!
Was great good food great service excellent Margarita’s
It was SO loud. The acoustics in the building are terrible. It was challenging to hear the person sitting less than a foot away from me.
Great food. Best tacos in Chicago.
Amazing lobster tacos and the waitress was awesome!
Considering I visited Mercadito twice in one week, I guess I liked it! Went first with friends for dinner, had a great delicious meal and knew my kids would love it so planned a special meal with them there the next week, which turned out to be at lunchtime.
One of the menu items I raved to my kids about was not on the lunch menu so the waiter was kind enough to ask the chef if he could make them anyway. He did, and my kids loved it.
They have an assortment of guacamoles, salsas and margaritas. All very good. The lobster tacos and the shrimp tacos are magnificent. My daughter also ordered the braised pork tacos and they were also excellent. Tacos dishes are great to share so you can try a variety.
Bread pudding for dessert was delicious too. Nice, fun ambiance. A little loud, but that doesn't bother me. Will absolutely return again!
I normally order steak tacos, but their chicken tacos are so tasty here. Chips, salsa, spicy guacamole are a must. Their queso fundido is delicious. Their watermelon and cucumber margaritas are amazing as well as the little market and misty sleeve. Our bartender was awesome as well!
Tacos were tiny! They should be required to tell you how small they are when you order
With a reservation made far in advance for 4 we were seated at a table for 3 and asked to scoot together before complaining and getting moved. It’s so loud in the restaurant you can’t hear the person next to you talking. disappointing. Don’t recommend for a double date
Really great food for an affordable price, the drinks were delicious, and our waiter was spot on with recommendations for a large party. It was a wonderful experience.
Careless waiter spilled the water on the table which is not a big deal but annoying.
Checking the bill, realized that a bottle of wine is included instead of a glass. It is corrected however a careless customer would have paid $30 more.
The food is served very fast. Order part by part!!
Wouldn’t go back for lunch.
We had a great experience at Mercadito last Tuesday!! We had a party of 11 including 6 teenagers. Our large party was accommodated perfectly. Service was so quick wrapping up dinner in under an hour. But giving us plenty of time afterwards to hang out. We had ceviche and quac for appetizers which were spectacular. Margaritas were delicious. And everyone enjoyed their tacos for dinner. Our Keto & gluten free friends truly enjoyed the Bibb lettuce alternative to tortillas. The price point was very reasonable for a large party in the city. Overall, it was the exact experience we were hoping for and we’ll be back!
Amazing Mexican food. Original Tacos. Quality ingredients. Great atmosphere. Just too bad the service was so rushed. The guacamole came literally 30 seconds after we ordered, before the drinks. The tacos came before we were done with the appetizers. Deserts were offered before we were done eating... slow down folks!
Always vibrant (and noisy) but one of our favorite Chicago destinations for Mexican food.
What a nice restaurant. The food was great. The shrimp tacos were amazing! Alejandro was a very attentive server. Donny the manager was very friendly and spent time with us making sure everything was to our satisfaction.
Hostess checked us in, told us our table wasn’t ready (we had a reservation) and told us we could go to the bar. After 30 minutes, we checked on the status of our table and were informed the hostess never checked us in. A lot of wasted time and money at the bar. Food was excellent as always. Disappointed in the service at the hostess stand.
Always look forward to a meal at Mercadito. Great service and excellent food.
We were in and out of there in 45 minutes! I felt incredibly rushed, there was no space between courses. Not relaxing at all. They need to slow down! Food was amazing but I was really disappointed coming out of there.
I wanted an outside table, but wasn’t even offered one. When we got there at 7 all the outside tables just got sat (all had either just drinks or guacamole only on the table)...it was as if the hostess didn’t even know that I wanted outside.
The food was fine but it was definitely over priced.
Food was delicious!
The food and drinks were great and we were able to be seated earlier than our reservation! However, our food arrived extremely quickly (around 4 minutes after ordering our drinks and appetizers) which left the table crowded with plates and both my date and I unable to finish our drinks until after the meal was over. I was happy however that we were able to sit and finish our drinks and didn't feel rushed even on a busy Saturday night.
Great service and good food
Food is amazing! The tables were a bit close together and the noise level is a bit high but the service is awesome. The drinks are pretty pricey but very good.
Mercadito is my absolute favorite Mexican food in Chicago. Can’t go wrong!
The food is honestly awesome. I could rave about the guacamole trio but I’ll take the time to also suggest the shrimp torta.
The server was excellent and the food fast. I routinely eat Mexican food- and love spice. However- here the food was over spiced. Everything tasted like the same heavy dose of some type of pepper/oil. We ordered medium spice guacamole, steak tacos, and fish tacos. All left our mouth burning. Extremely loud inside but modern decor. The margarita was excellent.
Originally was sitting inside but was too loud. They moved us outside and fully enjoyed the street side dining. Traditional guacamole was outstanding, margarita of the day was out of this world and the staff was very accommodating to minor requests on the fantastic food. Will definitely go again but insist on eating outside
We were here with a party of 6 for a bachelorette party and the service was great! Staff was wonderful, food was great, and atmosphere made for a great start to the night.
Loved the food! But the cost adds up quickly for small portions.
The noise level was miserable. I could hardly talk to the person across from me unless I yelled.
Tables are very close together making it difficult to get in and out of, and close seating proximity to others.
The service was good but too quick! The food came so quickly that we were leaving within 30 minutes.
Not great for a romantic dinner.
Food was prompt and had flavor, but not very good nor authentic "mexican". Incredibly expensive for being sandwiched in a crowded, way too loud venue. Not at all what I would call a good value. A beer, glass of wine wine, 2 entrees, and guacamole was over $75. Not at all a good value. We need to expect more for that much money. Sad evening out.
Authentic and delicious. The best fish tacos -- I was sucking my fingers from the drizzled sauce!
