Food was fantastic, dancing lamb was tender.. Will def be back again.
What a fantastic experience all around! The ambience is romantic with soft lighting, exposed brick and a rustic charm that feels intimate. The food was delicious, succulent and beautifully seasoned. Our server was charming and so personable. We will definitely be back!
I was very excited to try this restaurant after seeing photos of the gorgeous interior. Yelp reviews were mixed for service, but in our experience all of the staff could not have been nicer. The food was all absolutely delicious - we shared most of the appetizers and sides. It is a big on the pricier side but in my opinion worth the cost. Will go again and recommend to friends!
Absolutely fantastic Greek food! The tomato keftedes are out of this world. The space is gorgeous and the service is attentive and charming. Though it’s described as a steakhouse, lots of options for vegetarian / pescatarian folks. Everything is just delicious - couldn’t recommend more highly!
Came here with a friend midweek and we had a great experience! The food was really good and the service was great!
Really friendly service, great food, and beautiful atmosphere! We really enjoyed our dinner here.
Chef not present,no lamb!!!! NOT GOOD!
Great. Awesome staff
TLDR: Beautiful, creative decor, however the food is forgettable and overpriced. There are much better options in NYC then to spend your money here. Management needs to learn how to talk to customers. Also sign is grade pending from the health department.
Tuna Tartare - 1.5/5 if I didn't order knowing it was tuna, it could have been anything. No finesse of any sort, overwhelming lemon juice and no other flavor.
Keftedes - 3.5/5 solid meatballs
Drunk Mussels - 0/5 Awful, don't do it. The worst mussels I've ever had. It is such a shame, because the sauce it comes with is quite good. The mussels all tasted bitter and sandy, I really thought the mussels had gone bad. I mentioned it to the waiter and they took away the partially finished dish. For the entire meal, there was no acknowledgement that something could have been wrong. When I asked about it, the waiter said the manager and the chef disagreed with our opinion because no one else that night had said anything so their solution was to just ignore us. The waiter also explained that there was no way the mussels would have been bad since they were closed before cooking. If that is the case, the quality is just bad. Honestly, a multitude of ways this could have been handled better by the manager on the floor.
Dancing Lamb - 3.5/5 lamb is nicely flavored and not dry, however not good enough that I would ever need to go back to have it again.
This is great Greek food for the summer - modern recipes keep it not too heavy, but very flavorful.
The whole fish was gorgeous and the beef was excellent. The pita bread was a thing of wonder - totally addictive. The roasted brussel sprouts, although not really a Mediterranean staple, were delicious and complemented the meat and fish very nicely.
The waiter recommended a Sancerre in place of the Chablis I requested - the Sancerre was excellent and the whole table was eventually drinking it too, all enjoyed it very much.
Not your typical Greek decor - more steampunk/contemporary - no fishing nets, handmade ceramics or mosaic tabletops here. I will definitely go back.
Menu and drinks were pricey but you got what you paid for; great atmosphere and outstanding food and service. Will definitely come back again.
Server was slow to the table. Vibe and location was good!
The food is good but not good enough to warrant the prices. And our waiter, when asked what he recommended on the menu only talked about the highest price items. It was pretty obvious he went straight for the up-sell. Would much rather have had an honest opinion of what he liked rather than just trying to pad our bill.
An employee stole my mom's wallet from the restaurant bathroom.
Lamb special was dry and stringy. Chicken OK but nothing special. Drinks, meh. Greek salad good as was dessert. Very pretty atmosphere but overpriced.
Place was fantastic and the food was phenomenal. So accommodating to the requests as well. Every dish was great. Will definitely be back.
Nice quiet oasis in the midst of loud restaurants in the area. Great food and great service.
I was convinced by the server to not order the fish but order the king shrimp pasta instead. She said I would not regret it. It was overly salty and very fishy tasting. I’m not the kinda of person to not finish my food but I hardly touched it. No one came over while I was eating to check on how we were so I reluctantly paid the $47 for my underwhelming pasta that was recommended to me.
I would definitely suggest this location for ambiance, cocktails and appetizers but the entrees are not worth the money spent.
Authentic Greek food and hard to find dishes, such as lamb "kleftiko." Additionally, they serve Otto's vermouth from Athens (one of the highest rated vermouths), which is rare to find in restaurants. The baklava dessert was amazing. I'm Greek, and this restaurant nailed it!
Great service, lovely staff and setting, was well looked after. Food quality and presentation did not match the price tag.
Always amazing food & drinks. But pricey, but 100% worth the value.
Greek food was disappointing. They were out of more that half the menu. No bread was giving to us at the beginning and during our meal. There are better Greek restaurants in the city.
Will not recommend nor return.
Was great! There’s actual Greeks in the restaurant which makes all the difference! Delicious food !
It’s always a pleasure going to Merakia. The food is great and the service is too. Lamb isn’t usually on the menu at most restaurants, but it is absolutely wonderful and you have to try it.
Amazing food, vibe, and service. Would recommend and visit again
Let me start by saying that I typically do not write bad reviews upon visiting a restaurant one time, I do understand that no restaurant is perfect and it is difficult to cater to all clients taste and expectations but this place is a complete mess and this is an understatement!
We reserved a table for Wednesday night which is considered a “slow night” and indeed the place was nearly empty, one waitress looked after a few tables in the back room which had nice decor and atmosphere.
We ordered a hot appetizer, three dips and two main courses consisting of a whole fish and a vegetable lasagna.
The dips arrived... we ordered an array of three dips received two of the selections in a very small size plate. We asked for our additional dip and it showed up nearly fifteen minutes later with an apology from our waitress. Why? She could not explain.
The hot appetizer arrives, we ate it, they picked up the empty plate and they serve the same appetizer again! We told our server that we already received this portion of the meal she apologized and said it belonged to another table. I remind you the place is nearly empty and one can imagine what goes on here on a busy Saturday night.
On to the main course... the fish was stale and tasteless, our lasagna was made up of layered of vegetables that were still frozen! Come on guys, really? You serve a dish that was made up of frozen ingredients and not completely prepared? Considering that the price you charge one would expect at the very least a hot fully cooked dish.
The bill arrives and we find that they overcharge for the dips... we paid the bill, visited the bathroom before heading out only to find a filthy bathroom that has not been maintained throughout the evening.
Dear owner, your management, staff and the way your establishment operates is terrible! It’s a shame because the restaurant is located in a great neighborhood and you spent a lot of resources to design and build a beautiful space. It will not last in New York, we
Came in due to a Time Out Table for Two card. Wasn't sure how great the food would be but my friend and I were impressed and very satisfied. We both agreed we are absolutely coming back and have spread the word to other friends as well. Ambiance is lush and chill and cool and the food was delicious- free range no antibiotic steak and lamb is a plus plus plus !
Beautiful decor and nice atmosphere (which is was initially made me interested when walking by), but the quality of the food doesn’t match the price. My friend and I were actually debating on multiple occasions if some dishes were to be split because they were $50-$60. Service was good, but extremely pricey for what it is.
Cool ambiance for us grown-ups who wanted a nice dinner together. Nice wine selection. Prices as expected for a nice (but not fancy schmancy) restaurant in this neighborhood.
Eh.....not so great
Wonderful and tasty food and a good variety/menu. Highly recommend.
Everything was very good - the food, the ambiance, etc. - but they had run out of several dishes. One they told us about, and subbed in what we said was our second choice, but the other they subbed in without telling us, which was kind of odd. Otherwise a lovely dinner.
Aristoteles was the best waiter and food excellent.
Cool atmosphere. For most of the meal we were the ONLY ones on the restaurant. I felt that the servers could have been more knowledgeable and attentive especially since no one else was there. The food was very good but expensive for what it was.
The food was good but I thought way overpriced. The drinks were also much more expensive than similar restaurants, and miniscule. The music was too loud and we had to ask them to lower the volume.
Brian was incredibly sweet and helpful. Thank you for a lovely birthday dinner for my sister!
Visiting from Chicago. Great atmosphere and service. Chicken was dry and underwhelming. Lamb was better but again underwhelming for the price. Was looking for NYC food experience to impress and will keep looking.
Nice ambiance and very friendly atmosphere and service. Food and cocktails were lacking refinement and creativity that one would expect at this price. We had Greek meatballs, branzino, Merakia salad, roasted broccoli.
Good food. Great atmosphere. Extensive menu. Would recommend the prix fix during the week based on the dishes we would up ordering.
