Delicious food. Great service.
Attractive and inviting, with modern touches such as open kitchen, this restaurant was very enjoyable in appearance, food and service. A Greek steakhouse is a nice touch, and would definitely go back for more!
The restaurant is beautiful, open kitchen design, cool seating all work very well to assist in a great evening. The food is very good, most dishes were a hit, lamb chops were amazing, lemon potatoes, tomato salad, etc. The calamari was ok, and the lamb from the spit when we did get it to the table seems a bit well done.
It’s pricey and portions are on the smaller side but the place is worth visiting.
Our first visit. Food was authentic and great. Service was also great. Highly recommend.
Amazing food! The Dancing Lamb was out of this world! Can’t wait to go back!
it was cute and the food was fine but very $$ for what you got
All around was really lovely! It's *gorgeous* inside and I love the back area which is cozier and more romantic (the front seems more casual). The food was delicious as was the Greek wine we ordered.
Only took a star off because I got there early to tell the hostess it was my bf's dinner and I wanted the to do a candle. I asked her if I should preselect the dessert and she said no -- since it says "birthday" in my opentable reservation, they will automatically bring a dessert selection out with candles. But at the end of the meal the waitress brought us dessert menus, which annoyed me. We ordered a piece of cake and that came with a candle but the surprise element would have been nicer.
I was there for a business lunch, and we were given the dinner menu for lunch, with prices per entree of $35-60. I found out because she came back out to show us a description of an entree, and the pricing was substantially less $.
Our server was new, but for those prices, shouldn't have been on the floor yet.
I asked for dressing on the side for my salad, it came 'dressed'.
The bell person poured tap water into my seltzer glass.
I entertain clients all the time, and this was the most embarassing lunch I've hosted.
We all thought the food was outstanding. We shared a selection of dips to begin with accompanied by excellent pita bread. I had a whole branzino, my wife a great lamb dish and our guest a filet mignon. We also had an excellent Greek Pinot Noir.
The restaurant is very pretty and modern looking.
I highly recommend Merakia.
Awesome ambiance, service, apps and special treatment. Greek and steak specialties paired with vegan options so all can be full and happy.
Very nice inside, wasn't very crowded, but had a nice atmosphere, very lively. Drink selection was alright at best. Our drinks we did have were very good, just felt like the selection was lacking a bit. Then the appetizers: octopus was mediocre, but the dip combo was pretty good. Nothing amazing, and I feel like I've had much better in the city for this price. Worst of all-- how can you be OUT of halloumi? You only have like a handful of appetizers, and halloumi is like the most traditional and commonplace appetizer. I read other reviews about the restaurant being out of items as well before. It's just inexcusable for a Friday night restaurant to be out of a staple cheese. The filet was pretty good, but he didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked. The servers barely spoke English, and tried to take our plates away multiple times as we were actively eating with pita/food in our hands. Then, we would explain we weren't finished and they wouldn't understand. Overall, kind of a nightmare with the busboys, although our server was kind. Bill came to $200 + tip for two people. NOT worth it at all. Much better mediterranean fare in the city for this price.
Wonderful hosts, Renee & Andres!! High end dining, service was flawless!! Best Greek food in Manhattan.
place was super cute and food was good. However, the front section is less ideal where we were seated. The booths in the back looked nice
The prix fixe lunch is a delicious treat.
Lovely interior, staff were nice and let us pick where to sit. We had the meatballs and octopus, both delicious. For the main we had the lamb spit (best between 19:00-20:30) which was outstanding. Would go back just for that lamb.
The Price on the menu was higher than the website. No issues paying but left a sour feeling. Need to streamline public info so those feelings do not spoil a great meal.
We have booked the specific table but it wasn’t ready when we walked in... the hosts weren’t so approachable and the end of dinner we just asked a bill but a friend of us went to pay the bill directly to the cashier and the waiter charged to him wrong table after a refund and pay the right bill which was less we left never again.... we were unhappy
Just so average...everything was ‘ok’ and the service was a bit less than ok. I would be more positive about it if it wasn’t also such a poor value. I’m fine paying $60 for steak but it should be great. Too many amazing places to go to to settle for this place. My cocktail was really good though (I’ll give them that)
Had a lovely meal. The server was very friendly, and we got to talk to the sommelier. Food was excellent and would recommend it in the future
We came for our anniversary. The staff was extremely friendly and asked if we had a preference where we wanted to sit making sure we got the table we wanted. We ordered Haloumi (a must if you love cheese) and the Dip In sampling. They were all so good! We both ordered steak (the filet and the NY strip). They were great with preparing them both just how we asked. (I was told to ask for light salt and pepper on the filet) so if your not a fan do the same! Also as a note they don’t come with anything else so order a side. We did the grilled asparagus and Mac & cheese (the Mac & Cheese needs a little work), asparagus was great. The manager came over to check on us and our waitress was attentive and made sure everything was perfect. The atmosphere is incredible wether in the front or the more intimate back room. (Note if it’s not busy they most likely won’t seat anyone in the back).
As always - good food, wine and service. Highly recommended for a beautiful meal and a space where you can hear yourself and your guests.
Great food service and place
I love this place. Unfortunately, the night our party of 2 had dinner at Merakia, they seemed to be short on many of their menu items. They were out of the cocktail I'd wanted, all draft beer, the lamb stew we'd planned to order, as well as the lamb on a spit (this last meal was not a surprise as we went on the later side on a Saturday evening and it's the most popular item). Our server was wonderful and was able to have the bartender make me a comparable drink, as well as spoke to the kitchen about the lamb stew and they managed to put the dish together for us. I think they were having an "off" night in terms of inventory or something, because the previous time I'd eaten at Merakia was phenomenal. My date loved the lamb stew, but because I'd eaten it before and raved about it, whatever the kitchen cooked up for us was only okay to me - the meat was a little dry. Otherwise, we had a lovely, delicious meal complete with apps & dessert. I would definitely return to Merakia and recommend it to others.
Amazing! We went early (reservation at 5:45) and the staff was very attentive. Food was also delicious. Thank you!
Great ambiance, fantastic food and quality service!
Great simple but flavorful food, wonderful wine list and overall phenomenal service. Merakia has become a regular, reliable, and delicious dinner option. It's a beautiful space to sit in too!
The service was not what I expected. There were two large groups that night and they were more concerned with those two groups, than customers at the tables.
The music was beyond loud and the atmosphere was not calming, yes it was upbeat and energetic but you could not hold a dinner conversation, because of the blaring music.
The restaurant was also very dark which made reading the menu very difficult, and our server was new and could not answer our questions.
One of the best meals I have ever had. The food was delicious and the restaurant vibe was lively and festive. I highly recommend!
The food was excellent. The waiter seemed mentally comprised, by what I’m not sure. He was unprofessional, forgetful, inattentive and rude.
Overall great, however despite putting in a note about celebrating a special occasion it was somehow ignored/missed by the restaurant staff.
We have been several times & enjoy the friendly service, good food. They had changed the menu at this last visit, seem to have added a number of pricier dishes and removed a favorite lamb item. But still good and we were able to stay on budget for our business lunch. Wish they would add a lamb burger. Several of us have mentioned we're surprised they don't have one on the menu.
Food was average. There are many Mediterranean restaurants around the area that offer much better quality of food unfortunately. It’s such a shame since the place has great ambience.
Way overpriced compared to the quality/quantity of the food. Will not go back.
The best rib eye in NYC!
The restaurant has beautiful decor and nice ambiance. The service was very good. The food was good enough but not outstanding.
The best Octopus i ever had!!!! 😍
Good but waaaaay too pricey. Every dish is 2x what it should cost. Either double the amount of food on every plate, or drop prices in half.
Great friendly service. Food was very tasty. We had all 4 'dips' to start - the Chicken Aliada was special. Vegetable Mousaka was a crowd favorite. We had a group of 4 - sat in the booth overlooking the kitchen, which was fun. Great ambiance.
Been to Merakia several times for outstanding lunches. Had a reservation the day after the explosion and was looking forward to return. At first crushed by the menu changes: $4 increase, great lamb chops, octopus and avgolemono soup gone. Told this to Rene and she graciously let me have the lamb chops this time anyway. All were happy with our lunch. Very accomodating waiter, who let me try a couple of underwhelming red wines by the glass before i settled on a decent international style blend at a whopping $19. Draft beer the way to go here, unless ordering a bottle. We'll be back for dinner.
I thought everything was great but there was a missing ingredient that was in most of the cocktails which limited a lot of the drink choices. Other then that everything was delicious.
