I visited Meraki - Milwaukee twice, and we thoroughly enjoyed both experiences! Each visit, we opted into the culinary adventure. One trip was the $50 per person, and the other the $65 per person. The $50 you receive 8 courses that were on the menu while the $65 features 8 courses as well, but some of the meals were off-menu. The food was amazing! If you're open-minded and enjoy trying different ethnicities when it comes to food, you're going to love this place. You're full by the end! It's definitely worth the money. Service was amazing too! We had Laura both times, and she's the best waitress I've had anywhere in Milwaukee. Very easy to talk to and checks in often.
Service was slow and the restaurant was not busy. Water was not refresh all night and waiter never checked if food was ok. Small plates were delicious but entrees was hit or miss. We had to wait about 20-30 minutes for check even when trying to gain the server’s attention.
Food was overpriced for what you received and some of the flavors missed the mark. Overall, not impressed as there are much better restaurants in Milwaukee for the price point.
Overall was an enjoyable evening.
Rabbit tenderloin and the crab cake were the highlights.
Saturday night and dining room not full on all turns, yet having to wait for utensils after a course change.
Food was good, not incredible. Service was a little cold and either bored or disinterested it seemed.
This was a first visit for dinner, but will probably check out other venues before revisiting here.
LOVED THIS PLACE!!! Our waitress was just darling and so helpful. We chose to do the $35pp chef's tasting menu. HOLY MOLY....everything was flavorful and creative! just amazing. we'll definitely go back if we find ourselves in Wisconsin again.
Atmosphere was very nice and waitstaff was excellent. Wonderful cocktail (Meriaki Mule)
Seemed like the chef was trying s bit too hard to make the menu different so while the items had potential to be amazing, they just didn’t quite make it and flavors didn’t blend. Also seemed very over salted. My husband had dessert however and loved it.
Would go back to try it again, but wouldn’t rush to get there.
Very good. Absolutely outstanding food. Little high in price but once you have the food you understand. Easy to get past. Great place.
Not an inexpensive place, but worth the splurge! We tried scallops and moussaka. Scallops were good; moussaka was spectacular! Summer salad and mushroom soup were tasty, too. Server was very attentive without being intrusive.
$65 per person chef tasting menu......AMAZING! Outstanding presentation, fantastic food, wonderful service. GO HERE and order this :) !!!!
Had a very nice date with my wife here. We went with the $50/person chef’s “culinary adventure” tasting menu in which the dishes are not disclosed ahead of time. That was a lot of fun and the food ranged from good to outstanding. My only complaint was it seemed like every dish had Chinese five spice. That said, I would definitely dine here again. It’s very clear there’s people working in the kitchen who are pouring their heart and soul in to the food.
The service was great and the restaurant was super cool! The food just wasn’t up my alley.
Creative, Reasonable, Amazing, Different, Delicious, Adventurous, Exciting, Interesting, Unique....
Loved it. Can’t wait to come back. Probably bring some clients next time.
My wife and I went for New Year’s Eve. We ordered the $50 chef experience. My wife is vegan so that made me vegan for the night , because they would only do the same tasting for the table. We were set in a booth that over looking the kitchen where we saw all the cooking. With that, it was on of the best meals we ever had. We received 6 courses. Each was brought by either our great waiter or the chef himself. We were informed that everything we were served was not on the regular menu, but a chef experimentation. Each dish was uniquely different. The best was the cauliflower curry! By course 5 we were stuffed. They did wrap up anything we didn’t eat which is nice. We couldn’t find room for desert, but the poached pears were absolutely amazing even after a day in the Fridge. I would love to go back to try some of their meat dishes, but the vegan options were amazing and the staff were so accommodating.
Only reason I am not leaving 5 stars is because they don't offer the "chef's favorite" menu to the entire table if one person has special diet restrictions. I'm a vegetarian and because of that none of the people at our table could get the "chef's favorite" selection where the chef picks a menu for you. They were not able to accommodate that because I had special diet restrictions - what a shame. Overall the place is nice, service was very good - I would leave them 5 stars if they can accommodate the chef's favorite if one person has special diet needs.
Excellent food, prompt but not pushy service, great place for a family gathering where we still could converse around a large table and share the small plate dishes.
Did the $60 let the chef surprise you dinner. I highly reccomend. Guessing you cant leave hungry as it seems they keep bringing new plates until you say no more. The chef owner brought out a few specialty items himself. Was a great chance to sample a few things out of our element.
Top notch. Very creative chef. Every dish is fantastic. Super wines. Excellent service. Can't go wrong here. One of Milwaukee's best!
Excellent service. Quiet ambience. Interesting menu. Delicious food.
Great experience at Meraki. My husband and I enjoyed everything we ordered while watching the chefs at work. We shared the salad and the smoked salmon, followed by the moussaka and the halibut. Loved it all!
Server was not friendly. The separate meals for all six in the party were very under-whelming.
The food has gone downhill in the past six months. Not recommended.
What happened? Had been there multiple times after if first opened. Went again last weekend. Sparse crowd on Saturday was a clue, perhaps.....
Mushroom soup lukewarm, hotbread just so-so...hot bread with a slather of tomato and red pepper sauce. Halibut dry, over cooked, in a too sweet coconut sauce. Moussaka not bad, and I have had lots of moussaka! Summer salad fine, but small for the price. Cauliflower had a ginger sauce.....just ok.....
Waitress disinterested. No non-alcoholic offerings like the freshly made sodas that they had in the past.
Overall, the menu did not seem balanced......and the food just not great as it had been in the past.
Sorry....won’t be back.
Another great experience at Meraki! Highly recommend this restaurant and bar!!
Moroccan goat was outstanding!
Initial service at the bar was slow. Waitstaff was good. Food is very good. A little pricey.
Unusual menu items. We really enjoyed the smoked figs.
I have been, to what I feel like, nearly every single restaurant that has been on any kind of list in the Milwaukee area. This one, Meraki, beat them all.
Got the $50 culinary adventure, expecting about 4-5 dishes to come out. Ended up with an 8-course meal including dessert. Every dish that came out would have been the last thing I ordered on the menu, but yet loved every last bite. My girlfriend loved it as well, including the rabbit! Highly suggest sitting at the chef's table.
My new favorite restaurant in Milwaukee -- will become a monthly staple for myself.
Pleasantly surprised! Have driven by many many times, but never stopped. The food, service, and ambiance were all excellent. The food was unique and tasty, served by a our waiter, who made us all feel very welcome.
Meraki was a great experience. The food was delicious and our waiter was very helpful and attentive but did not hover. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any foodie.
We had dinner at Meraki on Saturday before seeing Rent. We've enjoyed dinner at Meraki several times so the restaurant was an easy choice. We wanted a light meal so we decided to do appetizers in the bar. We ate our way through several bar bites and then a few small plates. The food was great, our server Meg was very attentive and the vibe in the bar was very upbeat. We will definitely do it it again!
Loster roll was okay. Fish dish was good. Korean brisket dish was not good, way too fatty. We were cutting off the fat after every other bite. Chocolate orange cake dessert was burnt. The red wines that came with our flight order were less than okay. The mezcal drink should have been tequila and not mezcal. Ambience was really nice nevertheless.
Really want to like this place, but unfortunately our 2nd visit will be our last. Waiter looked to be new--took 3x times as long as it should have to open a bottle of wine. During our first visit our waiter was amazing and one of the reason we came back. But this one messed up on our order and the food came at different times making it an unpleasant experience for all. We have given up one dish, and the person wasn't even hungry and we where ready to leave and it came. So, she ate with all of us watching. Worst still the food was bland. Not sure how you make short ribs not tasty but they did (two of us ordered and both agreed). The lamb chops where a little better, but need salt. At the end of the day, with a horrible service, wrong food came to our table, bill had errors (frankly we should of been comped for that kinda of messup on the dish), each couple paid over $100 for what? Me to write this review. I don't like writing bad reviews, but this experience left me no choice.
We came for our 45th anniversary and had a very nice time. There were a couple of things that were not available, but overall it was a pleasant experience.
Beautiful evening in this off-the-beaten-path restaurant! We ordered three creative and very good cocktails as well as the $50 "adventure" when the chef creates your meal from the menu. We had a combination of smaller plates and larger shareable plates that added up to quite a lot of food and we needed to take the extra home. Each plate was unique and delicious and it was fun not knowing what we might get next. You can tell the waitperson if you have allergies or objections to any ingredients and that will be noted. Excellent and attentive service and a lovely ambiance. Highly recommend.
OMG!! I went to Meraki with some friends for one of their Beer/Food pairings and the meal was fabulous! Started with house made sheep sausages on polenta with a Lakefront Pale Ale Spectacular! The star was the Bistro Steak & Frites served with Ale Asylum's Octoberfest Beer. A perfectly done steak topped with fried calamari, skinny frites that were tempura battered and came out hot and crisp. What a wonderful feast! Meraki plans to do more Beer/Food pairings in the future -- I'll definitely be there!!
I would steer away from the smoked pork shoulder. Very odd flavors and texture.
We had a delicious dinner. Each of our meals was delicious, and the service was very attentive and professional.
Our first visit to Meraki will not be our last.
My wife and I have been meaning to try this place since they opened (two young children = limited fine-dining date nights), and were lucky enough to be able to go (finally!) last week. We sat at the dining bar, looking into the kitchen so we could watch the magic happen. We each started with a cocktail (both were tasty) while we perused the menu. There are a number of gluten free options all across the menu, but we opted for the tasting menu (there are three different levels of the tasting menu - what they call "Culinary Adventure" - and they're great deals!) and allow the chef to follow his inspiration...
We were not disappointed. A bit of wine to accompany our dinner of three small plates, two mains, and a dessert left us impressed and happily sated. A couple of the highlights included the house kimchi, the lobster cakes, and the Korean beef brisket, but it was ALL delicious, including the off-menu dessert (who doesn't love peaches?!?).
We'll be back.
We made a last minute Friday night reservation and were blown away! We were given a chef's table with view of the gorgeous kitchen. We had the hot bread and japanese pancake from the small shares and the lamb chops from the large shares. Our very attentive server recommended a delicious bottle of wine and we finished by sharing the chocolate orange mousse cake. We can't wait to return and try a tasting menu! Amazing service and food!
Marvelous dinner! The food was wonderful with many vegetarian options. The service and ambiance were great. Will definitely be back.
Anniversary dinner. We went for the full chef's voice dinner. Eight wonderful courses of a wonderful variety of dishes!
