We were looking for a special place that was intimate. Menton was that place. After the Reno it has lost that charm.
We went for Valentine’s Day and paid a hefty tax for that, which is common in Boston. Maybe next near we’ll celebrate on the day before or the day after. We paid $250ea (not including wine) for the same tasting menu that is $165ea just days later and it wasn’t any more special an experience. Additionally, I have to say the wine pairing was unremarkable.
Value aside, this was my second visit and I do enjoy the ambiance and find the service to be great. In this case our waitress was exceptional, but another server had a slight reaching issue that caused us to watch for elbows. With a little training, or on another night, Menton could rank among the city’s best for service. The hostess did remember my name for the coat check at the end of the evening, which was very impressive.
The 7-course tasting menu started with an Amuse-bouche and bread service. The main courses ranged from amberjack crudo to wagyu beef. With the exception of one, I found the courses to be very well presented and a delicious combination of flavors, but not overly inventive. I enjoy tasting menus with very unique ingredients and or preparation methods, but there was nothing surprising or new here. The wines, by varietal, were paired nicely with each course, but they were just average wines at best. The dessert, while a work of art, just wasn’t a kind I tend to like.
I don’t think we’ll be returning largely because the menu prices were overly inflated without a commiserate increase in the quality of the menu. For example, if they added a dollop of beluga caviar to a course and served a cup of kopi luwak at the end, I would have gladly paid the higher price for a special experience and would probably be itching to return. However, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
Absolutely loved our Valentine’s Day dinner. Amazing food. Incredible staff. Left extremely satisfied and plan on returning again in the future.
A five-star dining experience. The food and service was exceptional. The prices are high but are consistent with those at comparable quality restaurants. Our waiter, and referring to him as a "waiter" seems insufficient, was one of the best we have ever had. We made a number of substitutions on the tasting menu at his suggestion and his choice of cocktails for me and wine for my wife was spot on.
I have never been to better restaurant, everything was perfect. Service was great and the food was exceptional
Amazing food and service.
What a beautiful establishment. This was a superb experience with the best service I have ever received. The manager took the time to connect us to our next destination, which happened to be the Barbara Lynch owned bar next door (Drink). I cannot wait until the next special occasion so that I can experience such special food and service again. Do yourself a favor and reserve a table for your next special date.
Second time visit Menton, brought another couple to celebrate my wife’s birthday. I Always enjoy chefs tastings and wine pairings and wanted to share the experience. We ordered drinks in the lounge before we were seated and I had a glass of water spilled on my lap by the host, it happens. He was apologetic and gave me a napkin to clean up but that’s it. After we were seated at our table and ordered the chefs whim and wine pairing the wine and food started to come out at a rapid fire pace. It felt rushed and the explanation of the courses/ ingredients were mumbled. We made a game out of guessing what we were eating. Each course had a tremendous amount of thought and work put into it by the chefs and were delicious but having to guess what ingredients we were eating was poor. Overall for a 1700 dollars meal I was underwhelmed.
Ambiance and service was great but the food wasn’t very exciting or inventive. For the price for the tasting menu the food fell flat and wouldn’t go back. The a la Carte looked good and would try but not the tasting menu
Delightful evening! Many thanks. Food and service were superb.
We loved everything about this restaurant. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left everything was perfect!!!!!!!
Menton is a very glamorous spot offering a unique menu. Definitely a great spot for a cocktail. The a la carte menu is quite nice, but the tasting menu is overpriced, especially including the wine pairings. Unfortunately, during my visit there was nothing remarkable on the tasting menu, though everything was interesting and good.
I took my parents here as my Christmas gift. The food was to die for (never have I ever had spaghetti with pistachios). We loved that it wasn’t hoity toity with white tablecloths. Service was attentive and genuinely kind, nothing fake about it. I intend to come back and really treat myself to the tasting menu. Thank you for a memorable meal!
Service was warm and friendly for the most part. Food was visually stunning, but the flavors just fell flat. We shared a few small plates, had salads and entrees. In all cases, everything was cooked and plated beautifully. Just expected the flavors to be more refined or interesting. Most dishes ended up being boring or muted versions of dishes we’ve had elsewhere.
Unfortunately, at Menton’s price point muted and boring probably aren’t going to keep customers coming back. It’s a shame, we really enjoy Sportello and Drink. We’ll likely just go to those spots instead.
The FOOD is fit for the most demanding foodies. There is an elegance and sophistication in every dish and every bite that is hard to match anywhere in the Northeast.
The SERVICE is exceptional, attentive but not overbearing, polite and friendly but not obsequious.
Delicious! My husband and I had a fabulous night out at Menton. Perfect location for a special date night.
Menton is simply too expensive. I helps to explain why it was easy to book a table on a weekend night. I found the wine list to be....almost offensive. I really am not interested in seeing a list that includes $4,000 bottles.
Best culinary experience in Boston, from the moment you walk in the front door, to the moment you leave. The service was stellar and the food was creative, thoughtful and showcased a unique expertise I've never experienced as a foodie. Can't wait to come back!
THE best I had in boston hands down! Chef’s whim tasting menu is to die for. Service and food are spot on. Definitely coming back!
Always amazing. Drinks. Food. Staff. The best.
Amazing food, accommodated all dietary restrictions
It was an excellent experience. The entire staff was great and the food was fantastic. It was a great environment to be able to talk comfortably in great surroundings.
Our dinner at Menton was nothing short of an amazing experience. We partook in the Chef’s Wim tasting menu along with its optional wine pairing. The preparations were all exquisite, the plate presentations perfect and the service world-class! If you are looking for a dining experience where the cuisine is the true champion, Menton is undoubtedly your destination. Be prepared to be “wowed”!
An exquisite evening. All that we hoped for and more. This restaurant should be on your to-do list. Won’t be a disappointment. Thank you to the Menton Team. Job well done.
Phenomenal service. After a much needed facelift, Menton has modernized to a more casual 5-star feel. Gone are white-tablecloths. The food is still very good and well-manicured without being pretentious. The service is fun and extremey attentive and accommodating. The down-side yo the casual vibe is that you’re left wondering if it was really worth the price-tag.
A very pleasant dinner. Food and service were excellent.
This was our second visit to Menton. It was our 25th wedding anniversary so we decided to splurge. It is definitely worth the money for a special occasion. We chose the chefs tasting menu instead of ordering al la carte. When we asked to change out one of those offerings our waitress didn’t hesitate to accommodate that. Each course was delicious, just the right amount and beautifully presented. Lovely bread offerings. We declined the cheese course but know from our past visit that it’s a nice selection. Menton is wonderful.
The food and service were absolutely amazing. The Chef’s Whim selections were perfectly prepared, portioned and presented. The staff was very attentive, professional and personable throughout the evening. I highly recommend it!
Unbelievably good food. Attentive service. Quiet restaurant. Overall a perfect dinner.
One of our favorite restaurants while in Boston. The food is outstanding, always prepared with such elegance and cooked to perfection. We had an oyster amuse, seared fois gras, steak tartare, dry aged ribeye, and venison with each having multi layered flavors! The cheese course (blue cheese, honey) was wonderful as well as the dark chocolate-coriander delice!! The timing of the waitstaff is such that you are able to enjoy each course and not feel rushed, very professional!!
Inspired by the positive reviews that the restaurant has received, we booked a reservation for a family gathering. We were very disappointed. While the food was good, but not great, the service was uneven, disinterested and in one instance, rude. I would be unable to recommend Menton to anyone.
Exceptional dining experience all round with a team at the top of their game.
Exquisite dishes, extensive wine list, polished staff and beautiful fit out ~ very enjoyable experience.
Look forward to returning
Service was so far above and beyond that it should be called out immediately. The food was of high quality and taste. We were seated almost immediately and everyone on the staff that helped us commented on our special occasion. We were really tempted to do the chef's tasting menu but ended up ordering off the a la carte menu. Everything there was amazing. It's smaller sizes than traditional American restaurant but very similar to traditional French.
The desert was the best part of the meal. The rest of the food was great but not exceptional. For example one of the bread option was too salty. The servers/ service was top notch.
In addition to fabulous food and wine, the service was spectacular!
The waiter on a Thursday night in the bar space did not know the menu or cocktails. Food was very good. Wines were very good although relatively highly priced. We sat in the bar which on a slow night which probably was not a good choice. The space is very nice but we will not hurry to return after this experience.
Service A+. Food A+. Made excellent dietary accommodation for one guest A+
We were a little early for our reservation but they were well prepared, sitting us immediately and greeting us quickly. The waiter was incredibly informative and attentive, didn’t miss a beat! The food was amazing, some of the best I have ever had, and the drinks were unique and tasty!
Menton is fine dining in every way. The food preparation, presentation and taste is outstanding. The service is superb. The ambience is subtle elegance. The wine list is spectacular.
Food was excellent but portions small and very pricey. Atmosphere too casual for the price - expect white table cloths. Would go again for a very special occasion but otherwise probably not.
