Menton Ratings and Reviews
We had the tasting menu, and the tastes were phenomenal. However, the portions were so small that you only got a tease of the taste. They should double the sizes and cut the choices in half.
For me, this is a once in a decade restaurant as it will take 10 years to save up for another visit there unless I become a hedge fund manager or Lottery winner.
But I am happy we went there!
One of the best meals that I have ever had, including those in top restaurants. We were probably served by 7 - 8 different people, and the staff ran like clockwork. The decor is restrained, but elegant. The piped in music seemed a bit cheesy for such an outstanding restaurant, so one knock. Would highly recommend
Menton delivered incredibly creative food in a creative way, with the service level you would expect from a restaurant aiming to be the best in Boston. Generally, all the food was excellent, but no single thing blew us away to the point where we declared it was one of the best things we'd ever eaten. In a tasting that contained over 10 different courses and tastes, you would think something would at least rise to that level. For $800 with tip for food and wine for 2 people, I think Menton needs to do better than just be creative. Sometimes classic flavors are classic for a reason, and I expected Menton to deliver some of them in new ways - unfortunately it didn't really happen. Service was friendly and outstanding. Decor was subdued.
My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Menton.
The portions are small (we know that) and there are a lot of small dishes and samplers to go with the evening meal. We had a wonderful creative dinner with a great variety of items we would never had cooked ourselves. The service was outstanding. It was there when you needed anything and otherwise not in the way.
We had a nice quiet corner to sit in and the spacing between the tables was comfortable, unlike other places we have been to where the people at the next table are right at your sides.
We would go back again, and have now been there a few times, enjoying it each time.
Do be aware this a full service and full cost restaurant. You aren't going to a Scottish
Don't recommend for large party for a few reasons. Party of 8. Over phone I was told some in party could select 4 course ($95) and others could choose 7 course chef tasting. Server said we had to pick one for the entire table. Went with chef tasting at $155 each, choice of birthday celebration. Table was in back corner near kitchen and a hall way. Extremely noisy! Difficult to have a conversation with people at table and couldn't hear server describe dishes! First two courses outstanding, but rest only very good. Cheese course ($120 extra) a disappointment (spoiled by L'Espalier). Woman described cheeses as either from goat or cow. We had to press for more information. Portions are Miniscule - kids left hungry - bill over $2000.
Menton is only the third place I've tried the prix fixe menu, so I wouldn't consider myself any sort of expert. In my opinion, the food was prepared very well: appropriately tender, crispy, appropriately salted and seasoned. If I have a complaint, it's that nothing I ordered was exciting. If this were the first time I'd been to what I'd call a "fancy restaurant with a prix fixe menu", I'd not be complaining about this; the food really was quite good. The thing is, the other places I've eaten had offerings that excited and surprised me, and left me unable to stop talking about them. I cannot say this about Menton.
Bottom line, I would recommend Menton, but it would not be my top recommendation. There are places cheaper and better.
Menton aims to be a high brow dining experience, which the prices reflect. It's the kind of place that calls you to confirm your reservation. The atmosphere is hushed and spacious, and the diners get very personalized wait service. We chose items from the four course menu, each ordering different things so we could try a variety. One course we ordered was not on the menu but is often available, the seared fois gras, and it was divine. The food was high quality and creative, but not every course was brilliant. We were disappointed in the wine we selected, which may have been due in part to the fact that we limited ourselves to half bottles. Overall we thought it was worth the price and enjoyed it very much.
It was one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food is like art. The service is perfect. It was a very pleasant experience. I recommend this place for special occasions. They ask once you sit on the table if you're there for a special occasion and they prepare a surprise celebration with the dessert which was very elegant.
We went to Menton to celebrate our anniversary. Yes - it was expensive, but well worth it to us. We splurged on the Chef's Tasting Menu with one set of wine pairings. The meal was beautifully planned with 3 amuse bouche sized appetizers leading to a series of vegetable and fish tastings. The meal culminated with an amazing rib eye with mouth watering sauce followed by fabulous desserts. In perfect balance, the meal ended with 3 small delicious dessert bites. The wine pairings were fun, informative and really enhanced the food. Since I was not doing the wine pairings, they provided me with a small glass of white and red at the right points in the meal to enjoy over several tastes. Service was excellent and every bite was memorable.
We had the 4 course menu- whilst it didn't quite match the consistent creativity and explosion of flavours we have had at other places in NY and back home, the food was still memorable and substantial, and just when I thought we couldn't fit anymore food in, the various mignardises kept rolling out surpassing our expectations. They had an excellent selection of cheese and wines - our waitress was so knowledgeable, and for the very first time, I actually enjoyed the taste of some red wine. Overall, it was a nice experience and a highlight of our Boston trip this far.
There is no doubt that this restaurant is extraordinarily expensive but despite that you leave feeling so well taken care of, so nurtured and fed so exceptionally well you won't look back. The food is wonderful. The dishes and extra tastes are playful and a delight to the taste buds. The wine pairing accents all that is good in each dish. Oh what a night.
Went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed. Everything was perfect! The service was exceptional and not overly done to make it awkward. The food was fabulous. We did the four course menu and found that to be just the right amount. The cheese substitution for dessert was fantastic as well.
We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner here for our first visit. The service was outstanding, the food was excellent with a creative menu, and the ambiance was wonderful. The staff was so attentive, and even stopped by our table to ask if we would like them to get our car from valet parking after we had finished dinner and dessert. They even had our items from coat check ready and waiting for us as we left. The food was excellent - we both ordered the prix fixe menu, and everything was wonderful, with creative combinations for each dish. Each dish was explained (ingredients, preparation) as it was brought out, which was very helpful. The pace was just right without feeling rushed or waiting too long between dishes. Highly recommend!
Had the tasting menu, which was outstanding - as good as the 1/2 star Michelin restaurants I have eaten at. The wine pairings were also excellent, enhancing the food in every case. The service matched the food in quality. Expensive, yes, but a taste sensation for a special occasion with wine and food portions well judged to leave you full and happy, but not bloated and dazed!
The food was amazing! The chef gave us some special treats and wrote congratulations on our desserts when they found out we were on our honeymoon. The servers were awesome and very helpful, making us feel very comfortable even though we don't usually go to places this nice.
Menton exceeded my expectations handily. I visit fine dining locations regularly (e.g. at least twice a week) and rarely find a meal to be truly exceptional and memorable. My dinner at Menton was both of these things. The ambiance of the restaurant is very appropriate--quiet and intimate without being stuffy. The waitstaff were very knowledgeable and took the time to explain each of the dishes and the wines they selected to pair with our meal. The food was exceptional. Each person at my table enjoyed each of their dishes, which I find to be a rare treat when doing a 4 course dinner at fine dining establishments. I can't wait to go back!
