The restaurant honors the past, featuring elevated tavern fare prepared with a California cadence and shared with a genuine sense of hospitality. The restaurant celebrates community and the age-old tradition of coming together over delicious food and drinks.
Stop for a drink in the bar, enjoy a meal with friends in the dining room, or gather around a fire pit in the courtyard, there’s a place for everyone here. Corkage fee in the dining room and patio is complimentary, $25 in the bar.
Parking is complimentary.
Dinner started well enough, but the chicken in the chicken kale salad was missing from the salad and the chicken flatbread had ONE bite of chicken shredded into 3 tiny pieces. We pointed out both issues, refused the chicken flatbread and looked at the menu to find something else that would not take forever. to prepare, since the third diner did get his food as ordered. The new GM, (there only a couple of days), interceded, comped both the chicken kale salad, (brought a whole new salad, this time WITH the chicken), as well as the replacement entree . He offered to comp any desserts we chose to order and was very apologetic. But the evening/dinner was, by now, fragmented and not enjoyable. Clearly the kitchen lacks quality control, which is not survivable; we hope the new GM who was very apologetic and did whatever he could to right the situation as much as he could, can get the kitchen straightened out.
You are missing out if you have not tried this place. Delicious food and choices of seating from a little dressy dining room to bar area to outdoor area. We always have a blast there.
Wonderful place, service & food!
While staying at the Stanford Park Hotel, my friends and I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast on the patio. The food was delicious, my coffee was perfect and the service was attentive and professional. If I were local I'd come to this restaurant frequently. Thank you Menlo Tavern!
Food and service very very good. We had an outside table as requested but we didn't count on the yellow jackets being such a constant during the meal. Perhaps the restaurant needs more repellents for these creatures as it makes the dining experience less than comfortable.
Terrible service and Terrible food. Embarrassing as we took friends there.
Reservations were made days before for 4 for a birthday brunch on the patio at 10:00. They had us down for 2. Upon arrival found that the reservations person on the phone was mistaken and the patio didn't open until 11:00. So we ate inside, disappointed, but had a nice breakfast.. good service..and asked to be seated at 11:00 on the patio for coffee and desert. But found the patio was being spray washed so we waited for 20 minutes being assured again and again it would be finished soon. A manager? Finally arrived and asked the workman to finish up.
Things improved and our patio time was very pleasant, and were told that the coffee and deserts were "on the house." Very nice of them and did leave us on a positive note.
We will be back, but will double check on reservations and hours before coming. There seems to be poor communication between employees on several counts.
Ok food, rookie server, scant cocktails, overpriced wines. Not superior compared to other local restaurants.
My lamp shake was fantastic. The salad was delicious. The service was really spotty the steak was mediocre the desert offering was limited. None of the four of us want to go back
A great place to have a delicious lunch with a friend in a quiet setting. It was so relaxing!
Excellent service and everyone enjoyed their meal. Love coming here because it’s unassuming and low key compared to other venues in the area. The remodel is very tasteful. The dining room was a little noisier than I expected but nothing to complain too much about. They were especially nice about letting us linger to talk long after we finished our meal - no rush at all. Thanks!
Every thing great although music too loud. Microphone needs to b turned down. Best, L
With the remodel, the room and patio are wonderful. The Cowgirl Creamery burrata was excellent, but the cornbread was too sweet and cake-like; use less sugar and a higher cornmeal to flour ratio.
The food needs more work. We had a very nice waiter who needs considerably more training. I did not enjoy the music from the bar.
The food was amazing! We all really enjoyed our meals however it was a bit pricey for breakfast. Our waitress was very friendly but the food did take a while to come out.
Food was great and Ambiance was great. Service was incredibly slow and poor
The larger former very nice restaurant is only open for breakfast 7-10 or so. They don't tell you that. So when you arrive there are 4-5 tables in the bar, all full..some on the side, and outside in the courtyard.
This was a good place for quiet confidential recruiting meetings, but now is open area. Food OK, waiter disappeared had to ask 2-3 times to get them back. Will not go back.
Menlo Tavern is my go to dinner/wine location in Menlo Park area. Food is excellent and reasonably priced. This time I had the pork chop and it was very nicely seasoned. Service was really good as always.
Menlo Tavern has a great outdoor seating area that is attraction & tables are spaced far enough away that private conversations. The food is quite good and creative. It's weakness can be slow service. It is a long distance from the kitchen & bar, so service can be slow.
This place is poorly run. Skip it.
great attentive waitstaff.
the problem was inside there were only a few tables occupied, and the length of time to get the main and the dessert was lengthy. After I said " skip the dessert" after 25 min....He brought it as it was just about ready...and it was barely cooked. I make apple crisp and it takes 30 -40 min to soften.....did they just whip up one for me...It is a signature dessert there????
Our server Tarah was able to confirm with the chef that not all the dishes had pepper in them, as the last time the server told me the kitchen told him that everything had pepper in it, and thus inedible.
Wonderful, although maybe newish waiter; burger came out with horseradish which my son hates and they readily made him a new one. Service was great, but food took about 40-45 minutes to come out once we ordered.
Fish & Chips and burger were excellent and my husband’s chicken flatbread was good, just not outstanding.
Love the No corkage fee in the dining room; would love that in bar and patio. Would be our regular, as we are wine collectors and always want to bring our own wine.
Very nice place in Menlo Park for a change of venue.
The kitchen isn't very accommodating. Don't understand why we couldn't get a side order of mashed potatoes! They only serve with the steak?? Ridiculous
Superb visit. We were celebrating a birthday and they made the celebration special in multiple ways. They gave us a private room and also brought out a candle-in-dessert for the birthday girl. The server that we had was incredible. Very friendly, attentive and responsive. The food and drinks were great to match but what really made this place special was the staff and ambiance.
Wonderful place that is quiet. Special place to celebrate or a place to meet with friends and family to catch up. Perfect place for a business lunch as well. Delicious food and awesome service.
Food was salty, especially linguini with clams. Service was very slow and had to take an elevator to second floor to use restroom.
Free corkage only applies to dining room, not patio where the music was playing.
We had a wonderful time. The food was excellent. We ordered 2 appetizers, Calamari with salt & Pepper, and a delicious and inventive avocado on toast. A Seafood Salad, Chicken Cobb Salad that were plentiful with very fresh ingredients. Service was very attentive. Too full for dessert but we will definitely return
We shared two appetizers - calamari and french fries. Both were tasty and generous-sized. I had the roast chicken, which was, again, very tasty and generous. The Tavern Burger was good as was the lamb shank.
We like that the restaurant is quiet enough for conversation; we simply don't go in for the "high energy" at so many restaurants these days. We love that there is no corkage fee, too.
Service was attentive without being obtrusive.
Big disappointment! Based on very pleasant, high quality pre-remodel dining experiences we expected the same or better. Not so. Watered down cocktails, over-cooked salmon, poorly-coordinated delivery of four entres, plus very bad service ... we were terribly disappointed. When these items were reviewed with the restaurant manager he tried to make amends by suggesting we make reservations directly with him and come back to experience a "redeeming" dining experience. With so many area restaurants of predictable, consistent quality we've opted to decline his offer.
One major failing - to use the restroom, you have to go out of the restaurant and take take the elevator to the second floor. Major inconvenience.
Four of us sat outside on a beautiful, warm afternoon. It was delightful, with no noise from traffic and a great courtyard setting. The food was very good, as lunches go, and the wait staff was very good as well. Highly recommended for lunch outdoors.
Great service and lovely outdoor seating for summer with live music.
We didn’t like pretzel bun on burger or flavor of meat (grass?) fish and chips —BIG hunk of fish with greasy crust. Very nice salad and good service. Great ambience.
This is our favorite patio to celebrate a summer birthday lunch. Service is excellent, new menu itemizes gluten free options which is most appreciated, lots of choices. Enjoyed feta, watermelon and heirloom tomato salad with perfectly cooked shrimp.
We brought our own champagne. A year ago there was no corkage fee. This time, post remodel, they charged $25. Excessive and ridiculous.
Wonderful people, ambience. Quiet, relaxed, elegant place to dine breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Food is thoughtfully prepared and is tasty. Only issue is I like my poached eggs runny and they automatically do them firm—even when specified runny. Overall thumbs up!
Plenty of excellent food, good service fair prices
We're so glad Menlo Tavern has re-opened in the Stanford Park Hotel. We enjoyed our appetizers: two people had corn chowder, other two shared the avocado toast - which was excellent. Entrees were also just right - one Tavern burger, one pork sliders, one lamb shank and one eggplant parmesan. Only caveats - the sauce with the eggplant was a tad spicier than I'd have preferred, and my friend said the Brussels sprouts salad side order was too salty. Service is excellent. The room was quiet enough for easy conversation. And they allow you to bring you own wine for a corkage fee.
My first time back since Menlo Tavern reopened (formerly Menlo Grill). The outdoor patio seating is wonderful, and hope it will be open year-round (weather permitting) rather than the old schedule. Much quieter than inside normally.
Food and menu offerings were good, but issues getting gluten free bread instead of regular. As a hotel restaurant (in the hotel), would expect more sensitivity to allergies and more accommodation. Did work out eventually, and there are gluten free items on the menu, but a bit of a struggle and extra charges.
Service was friendly and wanted to help, but missed some items and late on some items. Overall I was fine with the service, I care more that the person is willing and helpful than that it's done just right.
Very nice place and the staff was exceptional.
Cioppino was excellent and quite generous proportions. The dessert -- hot fudge sundae was HUGE! It came with not just brownie bits, but multiple bite sized brownies. My husband & I stuffed ourselves.
