Menlo Grill Bistro & Bar Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy coming here for our annual Christmas lunch. The ambience is lovely as they have a beautiful tree in the lobby, where you can sit after dining.
Our hamburgers were delicious and the beignets were scrumptious!
We never felt rushed and the noise level was perfect.
We’re planning a summer lunch for next year!
WAITRESS JASMINE WAS EXCELLENT. BARTENDER LUIS WAS ALSO EXCELLENT. LOBBY AND RESTAURANT HAD OUTSTANDING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. VERY FRIENDLY PLACE. WE ATTENDED A PALO ALTO MEDICAL FOUNDATION AT THE HOTEL A FEW MONTHS AGO AND THE BUFFET IN A PRIVATE ROOM WAS VERY GOOD. THE PLACE IS WELL RUN .
The Menlo Grill is a wonderful choice for a quiet dinner for two or a fun get together with friends where a good conversation is possible. Even though the restaurant is part of the Stanford Park Hotel, it always feels like you're dining at a comfortable locals spot. The staff is welcoming and ready to accommodate. The menu is varied - something for everyone.
Tennis friends get together celebrating a birthday. Tables spread apart nicely so you can have a private conversation. Slower service in the beginning but once we ordered our food, they got better. Attentive and friendly staff. Met your nice marketing manager at Taste of Woodside promoting the restaurant. Food was also good - we'll come back sooner than later, I am sure.
This was not what I was expecting based on the location and the name. I expected more of a sports bar with good food, but this is very much so a quieter, slightly proper hotel restaurant in the first floor of a nice hotel. It does have a casual vibe, but the menu is limited.
Had been there on Monday for the first time for lunch. Ordered the handmade donuts for dessert. The freshness was amazing. Took my family back on Friday night. I have been raving about the donuts all weeek. We order them - they are not fresh at all. Literally rubber. So disappointed.
We dined here for Thanksgiving (not the first time we've done so), and the dinner was very good--although it should have been served hotter! Service was initially a little slow and disjointed--even though the dining room wasn't packed; but, it's a holiday, after all, and I empathize with servers who have to work on Thanksgiving.
Terrible experience! Would NOT return. We went for a family Thanksgiving dinner. The bar/dining room smells of mildew, the tables are old (feel like a diner). Even though we arrived early and there were many open tables, we were seated at a table immediately next to a very elderly man who appeared to be choking the entire meal (felt bad for him, but definitely not appetizing!) There was a fixed menu that was extremely OVERpriced - $52 per person.... the crab cake appetizer was under cooked and the artichoke bisque was inedible! It tasted like dirt! The turkey main course was fine, however, there were only two dessert choices, so two of the four people in our party had no dessert, and could not eat their appetizer, staff never asked why the plates were being returned to the kitchen FULL! They never offered additional drinks and rushed us through the meal in an hour. Four people for a mediocre main dish, disgusting appetizers, limited dessert options and terrible service.... $287 + tip! I will NEVER return to Menlo Grill!
It was my mom’s bday and it started off great but got worse from there. My mom got a glass of champagne to start but after giving us menu’s left for at least 15 min before coming back for our orders. Then it took 25 min for our meal to come. Also the water glasses had a awful smell which the waiter had to replace. After dinner, we ordered dinner assuming they would sing for my mom’s bday ( because they sang for the table next to us) but there was no singing and not even a candle. I put a note in my reservation that it was my mom’s bday and still all they did was bring a champagne glass after we had our drinks. I honestly think this place is made for older people and would not recommend it for any of my friends.
We like this restaurant because the food and service are quite good, and there is always parking available. We generally go out to dinner with friends, so we especially appreciate that you can actually enjoy conversation. The tables aren't stuffed in too close to one another, there is enough fabric to absorb sound ... all making for a pleasant evening where we're not constantly saying "What?? What??" and don't go home with a headache!
Good local place for any meal. Easy parking, attentive staff and tasty food. The short ribs were very tender. The sea bass was very good. Caesar salad nothing special; only low point. Beignets not really classic, more like donut holes. In the summer, nice patio.
Subpar service spoils a nice Sunday brunch. We had to ask for way too many items that should have been asked about or just automatically brought to the table.
Water - had to ask
Salt & pepper - had to ask
Butter - had to ask (we had toast & muffins)
Cream - had to ask
Sugar - had to ask
One of the best places in Palo Alto / Menlo Park for a quiet lunch either for business or casual dining. There is never a rushed feeling and the interior sets the mood for understated elegance. Lunch menu is wonderfully varied and the food is at least very good and always extremely fresh. Service is thoroughly professional and attentive, without being intrusive or obsequious. Hated to leave to get back to the "real world".
Alas the Menlo Grill has fallen back to mediocre after being better. Back to amateur hour for service. Ordered oysters came with no fork and two were inedible. Told the waiter but no replacement or adjustment on bill. Pork chop could have been good but was almost cold. Plates removed from one at the table while others still eating. Cioppiono served on a regular dinner plate rather than a bowl and with no spoon. Bread not served until asked for. Cheesecake was so small was finished in 4 bites. This is now an average hotel dining room not worthy of a restaurant designation. Best thing is free corkage but food not worth it. The last time we ate here was much better but this is last time for us.
This is one of my two favorite restaurants on the Peninsula. Knowledgeable and attentive wait staff: I was choosing between two pastas and our waiter recommended one of them - it was marvelous! Pasta with unusual pairings of vegetables and salmon.
We got good service and a great, unrushed meal--important because we had much to discuss. Equally important the restaurant is quiet enough to have real conversation.
Once again, thank you, Menlo Grill! You never disappoint.
Service wasn't so good, took a long time to get fruit and nuts that went with waffle. Had to remind staff to refill coffee. It was a game day and maybe that was the reason. Also, couldn't order a mimosa until 10am. On the weekend, you would expect to be able to.
