Full of the 40's 50's charm. Beautifully decorated, great food. and outstanding fine dining.
It was my first time at the legendary Melvyn's, and was taking Partner their for our anniversary. The atmosphere was exquisite, the service excellent, and the cocktails were wonderful. I have to say though I was a bit disappointed in the food - while not bad, the Steak Diane was a bit tough and not very tasty. My Partner, who had eaten there before, also said his sea bass was "okay".
We have been patrons for years and first time back since new ownership. When we inquired if Prosecco was available in bottle vs. split we were told no. Found full bottle on menu and waiter said he didn't know then came back and said "all out" very dry in his comment. We were never asked if we would like more bread or butter, crumbs were never removed from our linens. We inquired about the ceaser salad tossed at our table in years past with waiters reply "we don't do that anymore". The waiter never inquired if an additional cocktail or after dinner drink was desired.
Upon leaving, the maitre d' went to retrieve my husbands coat. I inadvertently steered my husband towards women's lounge area. When the maitre d' returned he asked where my husband was. I informed him he had gone to the gentlemen's lounge and he sighed....walked through the bar and then when he saw my husband curled his finger implying to "follow me" and in an embarrassing situation, my husband sheepishly followed him back to the entry to the men's lounge. Talk about lack of discretion!
The ventilation system is less than adequate since the remodel as between the variety of dishes prepared tableside, at one point we couldn't see across the room it was so smokey. When we got home, our kids asked if we had been to a bbq from the smell of our clothes and hair.
Overall the experiences we have had in the past have kept us coming back. The "old school" charm, excellent service and attention to every detail created a dining experience unique to Melvin's.
When we left we tried to determine exactly what seemed to deflate our evening the most. We came to the same conclusion the nonethusiastical demeanor of the wait staff, along with the demeaning attitude in service left a disappointing taste in our mouths.
Sadly I don't think we will return. Oh and should you respond, my son is Stephen Sullivan who's Open Table we used to reserve. We are Don and Patti Catton.
We enjoyed it very much.
Many fun memories
Feels how Palm Springs should be. Classy with a bit of pizazz. Great food, service, and music set the stage for a romantic evening
The service at Melvyn’s is outstanding. My Chinese Chicken Salad was OK but not great. The hamburger ordered by one of our group was cooked exactly to his request.
Melvyn's dining room is always the place I take our out of town guest to impress them in Palm Springs.
I frequently sit in the bar area when looking for more casual dining when my myself.
Thank you for keeping it alive.
Anniversary
Perfect brunch ambiance classy and quiet
We were very lucky to have been served by Bobby. He had been at Melvyn’s for over 40 years. He knew everything!! He was very attentive as well as making us feel at home. He prepared steak Diane which was fabulous and he prepared the sauces table side. Both he and the establishment were wonderful. Great place to go while in Palm Springs!!!!
“One night outside a restaurant, Frank Sinatra asked the valet who brought him his car what was the biggest tip he ever got. The valet said it was 100 bucks. Sinatra slipped him 200, and before driving away, asked who gave him the 100. The valet replied, ‘You did, Mr. Sinatra.’”
This was the restaurant.
Melvyn's is a real taste of old-time Palm Springs. They say this was one of Frank Sinatra's favorite restaurants, and after tasting their food, I believe it! Everything is first class, particularly the service. I recommend one of their entrees made table-side. We had the Steak Diane, and it was TO DIE FOR!!
Great meal great service!! Thank you
Always a pleasure being on this property.
Our group of 5 had an outstanding brunch here. We all ordered different items and everyone was pleased with their choice. We sat in the garden room and it was lovely. The service was impeccable, food was delectable and prices very reasonable. It was a wonderful Sunday interlude. We were a happy group! Look forward to our next outing at Melvyn’s.
8:30 reservations. 9:50 seating. Very late. Very weak apology. I am standing right next to the manager who knows I am equally as delayed as another young woman, and he is loudly saying to her as she is further away than I, “you can have a free bottle of wine, whatever you want”. And nothing is offered to me. Quite clueless. For that level of delay, most restaurants will offer a free desert or something. Nothing of that sort for my wife and me. Otherwise a very nice restaurant with good food at a good price and nice live music and a sweet old 83 years waiter.
I have eaten at Melvyn's many times in the past 20 years. I understand there have been changes in the past year and have eaten there several times since the changes. It keeps going downhill, the food being the biggest disappointment. The soup of the day came out luke warm, as did the three appetizers we ordered. I was surprised since we had to wait a long time for them to arrive, without anyone coming to our table to explain the delay. The same thing happened with our entrees. The only dinner that came out hot was the Chicken Pot Pie. The two veal dishes were cold and the changes to each dish from the original was not for the better. The veal was dry, tough and overcooked. I was very embarrassed. One of my guest was from Dallas and I had been raving all afternoon about the restaurant and food. One of my guest said something to the waiter who sent over the manager. Halfway through our explanation, he interrupted and said in a sarcastic manor "if I take the appetizers off the check, would that make you happy"? That is not why we were telling him about our experience. You would think they would be interested in living up to their previous reputation, especially with all the new restaurants opening in Palm Springs. I feel like I lost an old friend. I will not be going back.
Melvyn’s is always a treat, and it’s managed with grace and charm. A throwback to the past, it also perfectly fits in for the discriminating diner who appreciates genuine elegance.
We will definitely go back when we head back to Palm Springs in a few months.
It was my birthday treat and I had an enjoyable evening. You really feel like you have to dress up for Melvyn's - it's very old school - even the servers are old school! The food and service were very good. We sat in a corner booth which could have used some more padding especially for your back but other than that it was a good experience.
Amazing experience, thank you very much 👍🏻
We had dinner and then went for drinks in the lounge...outstanding.
The Chateaubriand could have been cooked more and hotter but all in all fantastic night.
The lounge is my favorite place ever.... Michael is so talented and David was awesome..

One of my favorite places! Excellent service and food. Very special.
I arranged a special "Ladies that Lunch" luncheon at Melvyn's for myself and 4 of my childhood girlfriends. Two were vegetarians. The menu and service did not disappoint! We enjoyed our meals and each other immensely.
New chef no short ribs but still great!
What a beautiful job they have done on uplifting this place
Great service as usual
Enjoyed our dinner, especially the ambience. We love Palm Springs and it’s history, and Melvyn’s is an important part of that history.
Great tradition in the desert with old world elegance.
Always a pleasure. Delicious food. Great place for a client lunch.
Out of two signature side items and two of the entrees my wife and daughter ordered.
Service was great and we had a good time, disappointed about the food availability.
Outstanding service and food
This place was great, from the 60s I sat in Frank Sinatra's booth awesome
Since moving to Palm Springs a few months ago, I have heard from many sources that Melvyn's was the one place I just HAD to try. A very special visit from dear friends prompted me to make the reservations. What a delight. The entire experience was splendid, from the valet's greeting to the warm smile of the maitre'd to the waiter's outstanding and welcoming service to a surprisingly good value as tendered on the check. The food was superb -- please do order the dessert souffle when it is available. I am sorry I waited so long to go. Melvyn's is now my favorite restaurant in Palm Springs and I expect to be a frequent diner there.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Sat at a table that was an add on two wooden uncomfortable chairs. Started off with good service but then we sat for 1/2 hour looking at our dirty dishes. Unacceptable for a fine dining place.
Richard our waiter was amazing and he made some food suggestions that we tried and have no regrets
Great dinning experience
I loved the ambiance of this restaurant! My friends and I had cocktails in the lounge prior to dinner and it was such a fun experience. The food was wonderful and service was excellent!
I brought my 86 year old mother there because she had
Fond memories of years ago! She loved it and so did I. Our dinner was excellent. Then we went into the bar to listen to the piano player. It was very fun!
Our party of 4 were celebrating our friend’s 70 th birthday. We all had a fabulous time. Our waiter Brandon was fantastic. We ordered Chateaubriand , Steak Diane, all were excellent. We will be returning soon.
Amazing good and ambiance after recent refresh.
