Ever since the new owners have taken over this place it has really gone downhill. The original Melvyn’s was such a great restaurant that was my go to place for special occasions. So sad.
The Monte Cristo will make you cry with flavor tears
Great throwback to yesteryear! Whole place is like a Time Warp! Even the servers look like they've been here since day 1! So cute watching the older people really have a good time. People watching is amazing!?
Outstanding service and food ..... a must if you are in the area. Loved the piano bar !
We will definitely be back !
Food was good, not great. Not quite up to expectations. Maitre D sat us in the annex at a table facing the parking lot. Not the main dining room. Seems preferential to the regulars.
Five star experience in every way. We can’t wait to return. From the classic favorites menu items like Steak Diane to the amazing lobster pie, this was a ton of fun and delicious!
This was our first time at Melvyn’s - can’t wait to go back. Such a charming place. The food, service & ambiance were fantastic. Our waiter, Steve, was awesome!
Great gem of la find
We felt we were rushed through our dinner. As well there was a very large party that were seated after us and we felt that we should have been told and perhaps we could have been seated elsewhere.
We reserved a table for my wife and I and another couple. The table was ready. The appetizers, the drinks, the entrees and the desserts were all excellent. We recommend Melvyn’s highly.
Love dining at Melvyn's, very friendly staff. Courteous, on their toes, explain the specials. Wonderful tableside meal prep. Very reminiscent of dining out years ago. Sunday night the music was terrific. Please don't change a thing.
Earlier in the season we met there for an outstanding Saturday brunch. Everything was perfect. Ordered eggs Benedict, and the meal was perfect. This past Sunday, and it wasn't real busy or crowded, the " poached " eggs were actually this side of HARD COOKED. Ordered " medium." When asked by our waiter ( Richard) he didn't have much to say (aka, said nothing) and we proceeded to be disappointed without resolve. There was no offer to replace our orders nor apologies forthcoming.
It was obvious the cook made a mistake and even more so, the waiter was lax in his duties.
Bar scene very fun, dining room
Service, food was disappointing
Just what you'd expect of an old time steak house. The wilted spinach salad and lobster pot pie were 👌🏽
Food was delicious and the service was impeccable! Thank you Richard!
Our first time there and we will definitely go back. A very posh restaurant where we can hear ourselves speak.
We were in vacation and stopped by for lunch. It was a lovely time,
Too pretentious for our tastes. We had to search for a waiter although there were plenty stiffly hanging around. I guess we were not famous enough to get their attention. The food was average. There are better and friendlier places to eat in Palm Springs. This was our first and last time here.
The service was impeccable and the waiter very personable and professional. We so enjoyed all the various foods flambé at our and nearby tables. We were a little squished as the serving carts couldn't easily pass our table so it wasn't as relaxing as it could've been. The food was very good. We came for the old school ambience and we're pleased to experience it.
My Father was Bobby Wray from Seattle. He knew Mel and Brian. Brian remembered him and was so very kind to me and my Aunt (Bobby Wray's sister). We had a wonderful dinner ... this was one of the most memorable places we visited in Palm Springs. Thank you so very much for the wonderful food and the kindness you provided us with.
Great place from the parking attendants to reservations desk to table
Food was excellent!
What a timeless and magnificent venue. Food was exquisite. Best meal I've ever eaten. Go!
Great food, cool setting, ok service. A bit slow, and no acknowledgement of our special occasion.
Always great. Worst service I’ve ever had in the 12 yrs of being a customer.
The place is amazing! So much history, tied in with fabulous food and perfect service. Couldn’t have asked for more - a truly memorable evening.
6 of us dined together. The service seemed to be disjointed, the waiter appeared unsure of himself. The steak diane was awesome as were the torredos (SP) and the veal oscar. THe fish, however, was not good and the caesar salad appeared to be made with iceberg lettuce drenched in dressing.
Surprisingly, a bit disappointed after all the great things we'd heard. I had the scampi fettuccini dish, but it was luke warm. The side of mushrooms were luke warm to almost cold. My husband ordered the lobster pot pie. It was 8", but didn't have much filling and the lobster was lacking.
Delightful service and good food. Can actually hear your own conversation. Overall a very enjoyable evening.
Very disappointed in the food. Had the sea bass. It was cold, sent it back, returned cold and tough. Also chicken Marsala and it was nothing but an airline chicken breast with some sauce on it. Chef Jennifer needs to review her menu.
Very disappointed in how far this restaurant and experience has fallen. My first visit 10 years ago was in my top 3 all time restaurant experiences. Had been looking forward to our next visit for months. (I don't live in Palm Springs and this visit was supposed to be a special occasion) It appears that the new owners have a different opinion of quality food amazing service and nostalgic decor than Melvin Haber had. Too bad! Maybe they should change the name because it is NOT the iconic Melvyn's restaurant experiences it once was!!!!
What a wonderful experience with three best friends. Thank you so much. Don't change a thing. The nostalgia is great.
We should have stayed home and finished watching the Martian with Matt Damon on Fx.
The restaurant is beautiful, but it is adjacent to a Piano Bar full of rowdy people. It really kills the ambiance.
Maitre D was welcoming since we were in Palm Springs for our Anniversary.
There were two waiters and 10 support staff. They need help with logistics. Our waiter was scattered and disorganized.
Drinks were good. Food was bad. My raw oysters were warm. Salad was inedible. Chilean Sea Bass was meh, lacked flavor and seasoning. The Lobster in my wife’s Lobster pot was overdone and rubbery. Sides were bad.
We waited 30 minutes before we could ask for our tab, as we watched our waiter prepare dishes table side for 3 other tables.
All the waiter did was make excuses. We turned down desert and took off.
Cool ambiance and good bar staff. Maitre d’ was particularly good. The food was below average and the waiter was disinterested and inattentive. If I went back it would only be for drinks. If not for the history, I couldn’t see this restaurant staying open long.
Very disappointing. Service was understaffed, food was ok at best.
Melvyn's is always special. Been going to Melvyn's for years especially for special occasions. There is something about driving up to the front door and having the valet take your car. Being greeted once inside and then to be seated in this old Palm Springs restaurant, again, is special. The restaurant has been recently upgraded and I'm not sure it is for the better. Of course, cleaning is always better. The garden room lacks the dusty overhanging vines and the main dining room is brighter. However I miss the quality of service having a team wait on you rather than one waiter. The food is very good but no longer is daily soup or salad included with your dinner. The large old photos that adorned the bar have been removes and that, too, always made Melvyn's special. The men's room has not been upgraded and is still in the basement. The stairs are in poor condition and floors dirty. This makes it difficult for older or handicapped gentlemen. Overall, Melvyn's is still special but not as special as in years past.
We all enjoyed the evening on many levels. We liked the room in which we were seated, the easy to read menu, the variety of choices, and the live music in the bar. Thanks goodness for the valet. Parking could be an issue.
An uneven experience with respect to food quality and service, but the Maitre D was outstanding and the ambiance just reaked of steak and martinis which is right on point. They have improvements to be made still ahead of them, but our lunch made for a memorable stop, and we loved the "oceanfront" view. It was just a bit choppy.
We wanted to re-visit Melvyn's following its ownership change and renovations. The dining room and patio areas have been nicely refreshed and retain their charm. We were greeted warmly by the host and our table was ready as promised. The menu offered "solid" choices--traditional dishes with an old Palm Springs focus. Even on a busy weekend at the height of the season, we never felt rushed. We had an unfortunate service glitch near the end of our meal but we still enjoyed the overall evening at this classic restaurant. When exiting, we noted a vibrant bar scene so Melvyn's seems to be back for another generation of diners.
Had high hopes, made my reservation months in advance. We had 8:30 reservation, showed up at 7:30 to enjoy the lounge. We did not get seated till 9:20. The host staff was very rude. We start checking in with hem at 9 pm about our table. Did not even offer to pay for a round of drinks. Many nostalgic places are closing in PS. One reason is that they need to appeal to the next generations. You make your reservation on line and then they manage it on paper and make exceptions for regulars. We dine out like 3 times a week and have a lot off new favorites. If you want to stay old school get off Open Table.
We were finally seated 45 minutes late for our 830 reservation. The dining room was half empty. We were not given menus, and then were ignored by staff for the next 30 minutes, until we finally left, hungry and disappointed. Honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life.
