We were finally seated 45 minutes late for our 830 reservation. The dining room was half empty. We were not given menus, and then were ignored by staff for the next 30 minutes, until we finally left, hungry and disappointed. Honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life.

Had high hopes, made my reservation months in advance. We had 8:30 reservation, showed up at 7:30 to enjoy the lounge. We did not get seated till 9:20. The host staff was very rude. We start checking in with hem at 9 pm about our table. Did not even offer to pay for a round of drinks. Many nostalgic places are closing in PS. One reason is that they need to appeal to the next generations. You make your reservation on line and then they manage it on paper and make exceptions for regulars. We dine out like 3 times a week and have a lot off new favorites. If you want to stay old school get off Open Table.

We had reservations and still had to wait 45 min for a sub-par table right by the kitchen. After we complained they moved us to a better table. Both salads we ordered had way too much dressing to the point we commented to each other “get any salad with your dressing”. Our waiter made up for a lower star rating, he was very professional and took good care of us.

Over rated and disappointing. Yes, they do table side preparation but why sit 6 people at a table for 8-10.? Btw, the highly recommended soufflé...don’t bother ordering it because even if you do, they forget to put in the order. Service was pathetic but the food is decent. Time to bring in wait staff who remember orders and know how to pour wine. We’ll wait a long time before going back.

We had reservations for Valentines. The restaurant was very busy however that did not distract from the excellent service. Tbe restaurant is "old school" elegant and as this was the first time we were back since the renovations i was pleased that the charm was retained. Valentines had a special menu. I had the filet with prawns. The filet was excellent, tender and full of flavor. The prawns and potatoes were equally good. My wife had the lobster tail with risotto. Tender and flavorful. The service was suburb. All the staff was friendly and professional. Just what you expect from a great restaurant. It was a true 5 star experience. I read a few reviews that referred to Melvyn's as stuffy. That is the wrong description, it is classy and elegant! We will be back!

For our Valentine’s Day dinner, my husband ordered the sirloin steak and I had the filet snd prawns. Unfortunately, his steak had a lot of gristle and fat and was too difficult to eat. We had it boxed up, took it home and carved off the inedible parts. My meal was nice. The service was very good.

What a disappointment! The French onion soup was not hot; the entrée salad was brought before the soup was only half eaten; crème brulee was more like custard; and the ordered wine was incorrect. Food quality was fine, but the same can be had for a much lower price at other establishments. The outstanding Melvyn's experience was not there; it seems that Melvyn passed and his restaurant did too.

We waited a long time before the parking attendant showed up to park the car. The host was not very friendly when we where seated. We did have an old waiter who was very professional his name was Bobbie and he was in his 80’s . Our meal was excellent . The place is dated but somehow that adds to. The old world charm.

Very happy that even after the purchase and remodel of Melvyn's it's retained most of the features that made it the go-to restaurant to experience modernist Palm Springs. The food, table side prep on such old time favorites such as the wilted spinach salad and steak diane; service by very experienced waiters like Bob. This place reminds us of the time when our parents took us out to special occasion dinners at white table cloth 5 star restaurants. Thanks Bob. Your service made the dinner experience one to remember as the measure of what dining out really means.

Have been going to Melvyns for years, but was very disappointed by this dinner to say the least. The ambience has improved greatly in the dining room but the food not so much. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was quite rubbery. Next we had the oysters rockefeller, they didn't have enough sauce and were kind of dry. For our main course I had the veal oscar and that was fine, but all the vegetables on the plate were barely cooked. So sadly I can't recommend this place anymore. The bar also seems way too bright, the new fixtures are nice over the bar, but nobody likes to feel like they are getting interrogated at a bar....tone down the lighting.

Our food and service was great, but we drove 2 hours from San Diego just for the clam chowder. We were told there was a new chef, and no more clam chowder. PLEASE GET THE RECIPE AND BACK ON THE MENU!
Also, we were seated next to a bachelorette party that was drunk, loud and obnoxious. No one enjoyed themselves with the foul language. I know it is difficult for management to step in, but it really put a damper on our evening as well.
We still love the restaurant, and really love the piano bar (not so much that night)

We've been dining there for years. These days the Maitre'd and other hosts are unfriendly and seat us late at bad tables often, regardless of our frequency. The old staff are interesting, but it is time for retirement for most of them. Melvyn is gone. They should bow out gracefully. The garden room is a dump. Don't try and order a drink during the time of staff shift change because they all refuse to serve anyone. It is just too inconvenient for them to work it out gracefully without insisting you "just wait". Redecorating hasn't changed the antiquated attitude these old waiters insist on keeping alive.

The restaurant is hyped up to be a great place for special occasions. It's a little pretentious and doesn't deliver on its "table side" elegance. The booth we sat in was a little tired. The ribeye was good but served cool like they had it sitting while waiting for the potatoes. Veal was excellent. I feel like you get a better experience at Fleming's.

We always enjoy lunch at Melvyn's. Some of the servers have been here 40 years and the decor has just been redone. The plastic grapes on the ceiling in the garden patio are no more. Oddly, I miss them.

I tried Melvin’s brunch menu twice. Both times it was quite good. The food is old school but fresh and updated. Service was good but it could be brightened up a bit. Not much interaction between the waiters and the guests. Very little explanation or suggestions from the staff. They just took our order and delivered food. The chef was fantastic however. She came to our table; told a little history and bit about the renovation and cuisine redo. All in all a good spot.

Have been there in the past but was disappointed in this outing-three hours for our dinner service-8:15 reservation meant that it was after 11 before we left.
My main course risotto was served a small appetizer dish that normally has a side order in it.
We had to have other service people search for our server-not the value or the level of service that I've experienced in the past.

Enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner with a friend - wanted to treat him to something special. Had been to Melvyn's for a friends wedding and knew it was a great fine dining spot. Service was great and though I marked it for 'romantic' and 'vibrant bar' it has both. The bar was packed but is somewhat separate from the dining area - we were tucked in a nice corner away from the bar, but one could see it was lively with people, music and dancing. The service was wonderful, but got a bit slower as the restaurant filled up, but we were in no rush. The crab cakes and house salad were delicious; lobster pot pie and scrimp scampi were perfect portions and tasted great. I'd put a 'special request' on the reservation, letting them know it was my dinner companion's birthday and would welcome whatever their 'traditions' were. After our meal, our Server, Brandon, brought out a lovely little desert with a birthday candle - perfectly understated and low-key, not only for the person I was with, but for the ambiance of the dining room. I'll be back.

What a wonderful job in updating the look of the restaurant, yet keeping the history in tack and the staff whom we know so well! Comfortable seating and everyone was so welcoming, thank you to the staff and management for bringing Melvyn's more progressive into the 21st century yet reminding everyone where you originated. It was also nice seeing the groups of 'Millennials' .

Melvyn’s is an institution as far as restaurants go. It has so much history in Palm Springs. A place where stars gathered and the city played. The food is always excellent and the atmosphere is very pleasant.

One of the real treats for us long term residents us to see Brian. He is, by far, the most talented matre D in the city. Always a pleasure

Highly recommend a visit to Melvyn’s and a quick walk around the hotel, as well.

This old time haunt needs an overhaul. Our group of 4 had 50/50 success. Meals came minutes after soup which had been barely started. I had chicken stuffed with lobster. It was the toughest chicken I have ever had. At this price point I would rather go to other more consistent options.

Melvyn's is as "old school" as one can find. For us, this is great! We're eager to return. The nostalgia of a bygone era is enhanced with a delightful menu and a throwback to dining with grace and charm. Especially for the older crowd (and we're among them!), it is an up-to-date reminder of "the gold old days." But, with Melvyn's every day is a good day!

We went to Palm Springs to specifically eat dinner at Melvyn’s. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We took our kids. Bad idea. Not the kids part... but choosing to eat there. The restaurant was filled predominantly with middle aged Caucasians and trendy 30 year olds. We were publically reprimanded and verbally attacked by a guest at the restaurant. Management was not on the floor to witness. A man approached our table to call us bad parents and insulted and stereotyped my husband and I. One of my kids was fussy and it bothered the guests. No tolerance was demonstrated by any of those there. My husband reacted to the man who berated us- not in a fashion that I am proud of... but it was deserved. We left the restaurant (having had 4 bites of our dinner). The guests clapped when we walked out. It was the worst and most traumatizing experience I have ever felt. I was depressed and disappointed man kind that evening and the following day. Melvyn’s and Palm Springs left a bad taste in my mouth and broke my heart. Management stepped in because my husband threw water in the man’s face. They offered to comp us for our next visit. I will never return. I can’t imagine living that trauma again. We payed. I gave them my money. We were told they were going to ask the rude man to leave... I wonder if it was done. I question if he had to pay or if it was after his dessert and coffee. I was and continue to be disappointed.

Tacky and yet good. 6 people. One was having birthday which I informed the waiter. Food was good. Not great but enjoyable. Okay here we go, my family is lifelong Chaine members. Argentiers. Melvyn's charged us $2.00 for a very insignificant and poor tasting mascarpone form with a blob of raspberry gel plunked on it. Wasn't worth the $2.00. But, to be charged for a birthday dessert, we ordered desserts on top to boot which was absurd to be charged for a birthday desert. First time ever.

We had some gin and tonics but were charged for Bombay Sapphire which we didn't specify. Our waiter was good. Service was slow but not surprising for Melvyn's. One wants to linger and relax so it was fine.

Over all decent but not great. Much ado. All and all a bit disappointed. Piano bar may as well be Marina Del Rey circa 1972. Call the gendarmes and get ye to the interior decorator. Also I just noticed we were charged for a Sauvignon Blanc we never ordered. Sorry, more. Vicki was jostled a few times by the cart passing through. Won't be back.
