Excellent food and service! Ben was wonderful!! We had a great time.
Excellent in every way. Food, service, atmosphere. All outstanding.
The food was excellent, the people were nice and I enjoyed the food.
Food was great the dessert was not good. We crème brûlée.
Perfect elegant evening after a weekend of a lot of bar and casual dining - just what we were looking for. From the steak tartar and the nice champagne options to the amazing lobster risotto, everything was delicious. Our waiter was very attentive! And after a weekend of 110 degree heat it was nice to see our water glass was always attentively filled. Loved the atmosphere and the piano in the lounge. We will be returning next time we are in Palm Springs for sure!
Outstanding in every way-food, service and ambience. The ribeye steak and lobster risotto were prepared to perfection. A memorable evening for my husband's birthday!
We’ve been eating and drinking at Melvyn’s for many years. This time around our dining experience was the best it has ever been! Our waiter Ben was beyond exceptional! His recommendation for the Steak Diane and peppercorn sauce was spot on. He was professional but very personable. The GM Alexander came and chatted with us a bit, he made us feel welcomed and part of the Melvyn’s fam.
The food was exquisite, from the perfect wedge salad to the creamy Lobster Risotto, all so delish!
The risotto was undercooked The steak diane did not impress. No mustard or
Worcestershire sauce. Guess they forgot
We had a great dinner at Melvyn"s last night. Our waiter, Jose, was very efficient. Alex, the manager stopped by our table for a nice chat. Our food was really good. Especially the bananas foster that Jose made table-side. We were very happy that they were checking Covid Vaccination cards at the door. It make us feel safer inside to know that everyone there had been vaccinated.
We celebrate my husbands birthday at melvyns and it felt like the most special evening. Truly
A classic in Palm Springs. As a resident, our visit was on our bucket list for years and it was great to see the interior we've heard so much about. Everything was pleasant to the eye as well as classic design. Plenty of fabric surfaces to absorb sound resulting in a cozy, intimate couples evening. We observed eight other couples enjoying the intimate setting as we were. Be adventurous with your menu choices, there are a lot of classics. If you order a steak, remember you get just a steak. You may expect a few sides and if you do ... you need to order them. Definitely go and make sure you take your time in conversation with your spouse, partner or very close friend.
The food is always good but wasn't happy to find on my check that that the restaurant now charges a 3% Wellness Surcharge to provide Health Care Benefits for their staff. Isn't that something an owner is to take care of for his/her employees? Not the restaurant patron. Come on, your food prices are not low end and the owner should pay for this and not advertise that your patrons are paying for it. That said, I won't be back.
This was our third evening out in Palm Springs this weekend. Melvyns fit right in the middle. We lucked out with parking because we couldn't use the main driveway (blocked by a vender moving equipment) and found good parking behind the inn by accident. I loved the 70s vibe it had in menu and decor. The wait staff was great, as was my Manhattan. I would have preferred to see the anchovies in my Caesar salad instead of getting just one bite with a decent taste of anchovy. The Steak Diane was good, but I would have enjoyed a touch of salt. We sat in the very back corner of the enclosed patio so the very loud band was not much of a bother. I have to say I was surprised in the sexism demonstrated in the different style of vests worn by male and female wait staff. The ladies' were low cut 3 button so chest popped out of the vest whereas the mens' were normal cut 5 button vests.
The music was fabulous - great crowd.
Food and service was impeccable - our server was the best. Cannot wait to return!
So happy with everything. Look forward to dining there again in the very near future.
What an incredible evening with my dear friend. Been over 30 years since my last visit, but won't be that long again. Thank you
Best service in town. Excellent food. Alex was very accommodating to us. It was my wife's birthday and we had a wonderful evening there. Michael was fantastic too (the live piano music). Overall, great experience.
If you are looking for an authentic Palm Springs experience , Melvyns is the place to go. The bar/ lounge provides an intimate setting with an excellent pianist. My husband and I had a romantic dinner in the dinning room. Unfortunately, my (British) husband was looking forward to the Chicken pot pie( to reminisce and compare to his mothers cooking in the UK) but the oven was not working. He was very disappointed (reason for 4 stars) and settled for the French Onion soup and caesar salad. They were both very good. I had the duck breast and it was one of the best I have ever tasted.
Ben was our waiter and was very friendly and (not over) attentive making the experience relaxed and memorable
Always loved this place but have to say this experience was disappointing, considering the price range. The service was excellent as usual and it is one of the reasons I like Melvin’s. As for the food:
Bread - at the price level for the restaurant, why are you charging for the bread? Also the Maitre d’hotel butter seemed to be just butter. Where this free as in most restaurants it would not have warranted a comment.
Cesar Salad - had obviously been plated hours ahead of time as the chlorophyll from the Romain lettuce had leached into the dressing and was stuck to the plate.
Shrimp Cocktail - the shrimp tasted old and watery.
French Onion Soup - truly disappointing. It was excessively sweet, making it unpalatable. I asked what had been done to make it so and the answer was, they add brown sugar to get the caramelization look. It is the only soup on the menu, do it right and in the classical tradition. Probably they need to also drop the addition of leeks. It is very easy to caramelize onions, butter and medium heat and patience.
Steelhead Trout - good taste, nicely presented and enjoyable.
Steak Diane - classically made with New York strip steak, this wasn’t. The meat was tender and cooked to temperature. The sauce prepared and flambé at table side was acceptable, perhaps a little strong on the garlic and shallots but all round acceptable flavor.
Loaded Baked Potato - nicely done and flavorful.
Cherries Jubilee - nicely done, table side.
This was a $200.00 plus dinner it did not meet up to the price nor the expectations and previous experiences of this restaurant. We will probably not return.
The beef wellington was superb!
My beverage glass was promptly refilled throughout the evening
I was surprised that their website had a dress code, but customers didn't follow it. We saw people with shirts, and t-shirts. We were never asked for our "Covid" proof of vaccine, although it's the law. The bar area had a very LOUD & awful band, so I had to ask to be seated furthest from the bar area. Then it was bearable. As for the food, the hamachi crudo was not fresh, and the chef has a heavy hand with the salt. Overall, the food was slightly above average.,
We have been to Melvyn's on multiple occasions and had a great experience. This time the service was extremely slow and the server was rude.
Celebration dinner for my wife's 70th birthday with another couple. Had put in a request for a "nice" table.
Arrived deliberately early so as to have a cocktail at the bar. I brought 2 bottles of wine, one red, one white. I asked to have the red open and decanted and the white put on ice while we had our drinks.
When our reservation time came up we were brought into the restaurant and seated at a rather ordinary table.
When our server came by to take our drink order I told him about the wine I had provided. He came back with the 2 bottles just as I had brought them in. Red was unopened and not decanted and the white, by this time, had warmed considerably and needed to be cooled down a lot.
Despite these 2 mishaps, the service and food was extraordinary. Perfectly prepared and delicious.
We went with our friends who were also celebrating their anniversary. We sat at the bar and enjoyed drinks before dinner. Great atmosphere. Classy and old school in a good way. Highly recommend, especially for a special occasion.
Very interesting place with a lot of old photos. The food was good and presented well. I was surprised to pay for bread.
The service was impeccable, along with the attention to detail. I had a wonderful dining experience.
Disappointing overall. Limited menu and limited seating. Busy bar, music, excellent bar staff. Poor Hosting in the Dining Room, utilizing a small portion of the available
tables. Server support staff was excellent.
Magnificent as always!
Thank you for making two birthday so incredibly special. We had a wonderful experience overall.
Wonderful iconic piece of Palm Springs.
Staff and service impeccable..
Dress code in place, so no flip flops shorts or swim attire😉
Appetizer (Ceasar salad) and entree (chicken pot pie) were delicious but, the deceptively shaped bowl in which the pot pie is served (11 inch diameter crust covering 8 inch diameter ingredients) left me leaving the restaurant hungry
Melvyns has quickly become our favorite restaurant for the greatest food ever, most perfect ambiance and the staff feels like family!!!
Once again, we had the most fabulous evening at Melvyn's, our favorite restaurant in the desert. We were promptly seated and greeted by our wonderful waiter Jose. Cocktails ordered and delivered very quickly. We split the wedge salad which is delicious and the right size serving. My husband had the special which was rack of lamb and I had the beef wellington. Both were cooked perfectly and delicious. We were celebrating my birthday so we were served a nice portion of bananas foster which was fabulous and a complimentary glass of champagne ... a really nice touch! August featured no corkage fee so we had brought in our own bottle of delicious Rombauer Zinfandel which was the perfect wine for our entrees. We went into the bar afterwards to hear our favorite entertainer, Michael Healy, and had a nice chat with him. We were seated next to a very nice and fun couple from the Bay Area so it was a really special and very fun evening. Melvyn's is a great restaurant for delicious food, excellent service and great people-watching. Highly recommend!
Fabulous from the moment we turned down the secluded, tree lined drive to the hostess who commented on how nice it was that we dressed up to the waiter who met every request with a smile and an ‘i can do that’ response to the beautiful room and finally the excellent food prepared to perfection and finally the candle on the little flan to celebrate my husbands birthday. Perfection! Will definitely make this one of my most favorite in Palm Springs area!
Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere, great staff.
Service was wonderful. Food was very good as well.
From the drinks to the appetizer to the entree and dessert, it was perfect!!!! Delish food and wonderful service.
Food, ambiance and service were all excellent in this newly redecorated interior of a Palm Springs landmark.
