The meal and the service were lovely as always. Our waiter suggested the artichokes as an accompaniment and WOW. I could eat an entire meal of those artichokes.
Everything from the food to the service was excellent
really good food and sevice- however, the noise level is just too loud and the restaurant was not filled
Chef is an outstanding professional. Coming from Rome 20 years ago, he started his trade in his father's restaurant.
He continues the tradition owning now 3 restaurants in the Philadelphia area.
Friday June 18.
I have not been at Melograno for a long time and did not rememberd why... this is the reason. The food is among the very best in the city; but the noise level is unbearabke. They should really should do something about it. My date was coming from NYC and even with the long drive we stayef only one hour and had to go fo dessert somewhere else because it was impossible to talk.
It was lovely to return to an old favorite “post-pandemic”. We shared the delicious pork meatballs and polenta for an appetizer, and then we each ordered a pasta dish. One (with mushrooms) was perfect, but the pasta in second (with duck ragu) was way over-cooked (soft and mushy). Very politely we brought it to the attention of our server who cheerfully had the chef redo it with another pasta. Overall, a positive first experience back in the world.
The food was fine, because the main seating area is a large open space, when the room begins to fill, conversation can be difficult.
As soon as we walked in, the hostess gave us a table right in front of their table/desk which it was not ideal. the room was completely empty. not sure why she choose that one. she moved us then to a different table and it worked better,
We had to wait for 15 minutes for a server to come to help us. I actually had to get his attention.
They were not quick even though the guy who served us was friendly and very nice.
the food is good! The pinsa is delicious and the pasta as well. I did not have space for dessert.
Food is always good nice atmosphere our server Aaron was super efficient byob is a plus it’s just always so noisy even half empty
Loved this restaurant for years. First visit since lock down. Food was terrible! Dry. Almost no sauce on fazzoleti. Fettuccini was also dry but over-packed with nuts. Waiter assured me food was prepared by original chef-owner. It must have been reheated from some other day. What a disappointment!
The wait staff were genuinely welcoming and attentive without being overly so. The warm goat cheese salad, pizza (mushrooms and cheese) and handkerchief pasta with duck ragout were all excellent, as was the tiramisu. A memorable experience. Thank you!
Decided to dine here based on a PhillyMag review, so glad we did.
The food was well prepared, the hospitality cordial and generous, the overall experience delightful.
Excellent atmosphere and service. The food was authentic.
Friendly staff, good selection of menu items. Ocotopus appetizer was a winner!
One of the best Italian restaurants in Philly. Highly recommended and will be back.
We dined with a party of five at Melograno on a Saturday night in May. It was excellent. I had not been there for a few years, and we gathered for a small post-covid reunion of friends from NYC and DC. All aspects of the evening were exemplary. We were greeted at the door, seated promptly, served attentively and the food was really good. If you hadn’t guessed, Melograno is an Italian BYO restaurant, but it is a cut above. The menu is compact, but with plenty of variety. We had the Insalata with arugula and prosciutto and the burrata appetizer, both excellent. The menu has pastas and mains and we tried some of each. Two of us tried the pork chop and it was really good. We had the lamb lollipops, likewise excellent. Then we had the duck breast pasta and the cacio e pepe, also very strong. But perhaps the main ingredient for the evening was fun. The atmosphere of fun and good cheer from everyone at the restaurant was evident from the beginning: they were happy we were there and it was delightful. We finished by trying all of the desserts and they were all good. And did I mention the prices are reasonable? No pasta over $20 and my pork chop was the most expensive thing on the menu at $26!! Run, don’t walk to Melograno.
The staff was very friendly and accomodating: 1)we arrived 30 mins early and were told no problem. 2)we didn't like the first table offered, again no problem. All on a busy Saturday night! The food and waiter were great too! This was a favorite spot before Covid and I'm so glad they survived. We will definitely be back!
Wonderful food. Excellent service. Beautifully decorated. Prices are very moderate
Delicious food and great service!
Great downtown staple for unique Italian dishes that are always delicious. Service is great -- very warm, welcoming feeling by the server.
The food was incredible! I can’t say enough great things about this place!!!
Food is awesome. Service is awesome. Specials are awesome. I have never had a bad meal or experience.
Wonderful night! Great service and great food in casual but beautiful setting!
One of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time! The duck ragu is amazing!
Pizza, pasta and entrees were delicious. Friendly staff.
Terrific little place for great food and fun. Staff is awesome snd accommodating.
The food we got was amazing! I just couldn't believe how good it was. Definitely recommend the Lombatina di Maiale. Really beautiful place too. One thing I noticed as soon as we walked in, though, is that the restaurant is really loud. But I stopped noticing after a while. And never had to ask my date to repeat anything. It just has bad acoustics so nothing they can do. I do indeed recommend this place!
Food was good although the rack of lamb was cooked closer to well-done than what it should have been......medium rare would have been correct. Showed to waiter and he agreed it was overdone and he said he told the chef but although we expected perhaps a comp desert or something, nothing was offered or given. I was hungry and ate every bite because I didn't want to hold up my friend's fish meal (it would have taken 10 minutes for a replacement rack) but still......the restaurant should have done something nice for us. Otherwise all was fine.
Service team was very welcoming. Food was great.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Always consistent. Friendly staff.
I was with my partner and mother for an early Saturday dinner and the service from the minute we walked in through the front door was very professional and friendly. The dinner was excellent and everything was what we absolutely needed and were given in spades. We were thinking about returning before we even got up to leave.
You cannot go wrong at Melograno, every dish is a work of art. My sister and I took our parents out for a birthday dinner and we were taken care of from start to finish. I ordered the Polpo, my appetizer of choice, and it was charred to perfection. What a dish! What a dish! We decided to share a Melanzana pinsa and the flavors took me back to my grandmother's cooking, and the crust had that irresistible crunch to it that could make you eat 2 orders of it.
My main dish was the Granchio containing that nice Calabrian chili amidst the glory of the crab meat. People, it was unbelievable, the balance of flavors and heat was expertly crafted - you feel that if you look out the window you'll find yourself in Italy. While I love to try new things, it will be hard to resist the Granchio next time.
Tiramisu, Gelato and Sorbetto were the desserts, the beautiful end to the meal; light on the stomach with a sweetness that holds 'tils the last bite.
It was great to see this beautiful restaurant in action, they made my parents birthday celebration unforgettable.
The man behind the scenes is Luca Demontis, one of Philadelphia's finest. His other restaurant in the city is L'Anima - I will be going there next for another great evening out on the town.
Had a reservation for 830 but still had to wait until 9 to be seated. Lots of apologies for the wait. I thought the service was a little slow since by that time the place thinned out and there weren't too many other diners. But the Pasta was good and very reasonably priced.
We loved Melogrando, the food was absolutely fabulous and we so enjoyed the attention the staff gives to each and every diner.
Perfectly acceptable. Octopus was particulary tasty, nice presentation. Other dishes were fine but unremarkable. Arancini had great texture but was missing depth of flavor. The fish entree was nice but sure seemed like an appetizer-sized serving.
We’ve been going for years but no more. Fish was poorly cooked and pasta dish was so small it was like an appetizer portion. Both dishes were not worth the price we paid. We were very disappointed
Our reservation was the first of the day and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Service and food were spectacular.
One of our favorite restaurants! Excellent menu and service.
