It quickly became the best steak house in Banff. Locals and visitors alike filled the dining room, feasting on the wide selection of top-of-the-line Alberta beef and signature salads
In 1990, the Bordens sold the restaurant to a group of long-term employees. A patio was constructed - and then opened in 1991. It continues to be a popular spot while away a warm summer afternoon or evening.
In Late 2020 Melissa's was relocated to Town Centre Mall, 201 Banff, Ave in a much larger location so we added an arcade for kids entertainment as well as Live Music

Melissa's Missteak is a nice, big restaurant. We felt very safe. There was great safety protocols in place. Our server was friendly and gave us great recommendations about the menu.
Your staff went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing time at your restaurant. They allowed us to arrive very early for our reservation table, move to the outdoor corner balcony with our drinks, then back into the bar afterwards for dinner. Amazing afternoon/early evening. We will definitely book for our next trip to Banff. Thank you !!!
Very sad that this restaurant had to move to a new location at no fault of their own. Unfortunately, the warm, welcome, cozy feel of the old location was completely lacking in the new location. The new staff were not friendly, certainly did not make you feel welcome. The service was terrible. Our waitress made us feel unwelcome and was rude. Our table was not cleared through out our meal, we waited 10-15 minutes just for our drinks. Won’t be coming back which is too bad because we always looked forward to the dining experience and excellent food at the old location.
Service was great our waitress Megan was awesome but she was clearly servicing too many tables at once but she was lovely, food was mediocre at best. For $119 I expect The Keg quality but our prime rib and veggies were cold to the point we couldn’t even eat the veggies (even the au juice was cold) Caesar salad was basic and didn’t even have croutons. Over priced food, typical bar atmosphere. We won’t be returning.
Good food, family environment, good location, and nice setting.
We are SO thrilled to have Melissa’s back in our dining mix! We love the menu and the new building is great. Service was stellar. Lobster - amazing as always! Welcome back!!
Ordered an appetizer that came out two minutes before the main course. When the prime rib came out the Au Jus was cold same with the Brussels sprouts. Expected a lot more for $110.
Melissa’s used to be a nice steakhouse, now it is a place for a young persons party night out.
Amazing service, drinks and good
Staff was friendly and attentive. Service was speedy and interactive. My food was good and the others enjoyed theirs. Good atmosphere will be back.
We like the new location. Th food tastes excellent!
Awesome food and great service from Jack! Will recommend
We had gone to the old location previously and had a wonderful experience. At the new location it is a less formal atmosphere. More of a family pub bar now. So not as great for special occasions.
Food was excellent! Ambiance could be better. We would come back!!
The food was excellent. Better than expected. Easy to find and great customer service
We have attended Melissa's Misteak a number of times over the years. We loved it in it's original venue. We loved the trolley that they would present the steaks and, I think, the desserts. It is a larger venue now, the back ground music is different and the food seems little different too. It is still very pleasant but different. The food is still very good. Everything is, seemingly, less cozy than it use to be.
Food was great, service was awesome and drinks were awesome. Loved the Sangria
Glad to see Mel's has reopened. The new location is great and the food is still as good as it has ever been. Best breakfast in town by far.
Excellent food and amazing service. We were there to celebrate a special birthday and we were not disappointed. The new location was clean and fresh and we were lucky to get a window seat. We had the Prime Rib and it was melted in your mouth, delicious, the au ju juice was amazing and the horseradish had a good bite. It was a pleasure to have Cassandra as our server; she did an amazing job of serving us. Look forward to returning and enjoying another amazing meal. Thanks for the Great Birthday experience.
We had an amazing meal tonight. The all you can eat prime rib was fantastic. Our server Lindsey was wonderful. She was attentive and personable. We will definitely come back and we don't hesitate to recommend this restaurant. Definitely a 10 out of 10
Our dinner was delicious and the service was prompt and friendly. Will definately return!
Our food was only warm, and not very good. The waitress didn't come over very much.
Chicken and dinner roll were dry, pizza was 60% crust, most people were there to drink instead of eat - very loud obnoxious intoxicated patrons. Our server was excellent, prompt and attentive.
So happy Mel’s back at a new location! Will return for sure! Good wings, affordable drinks
Great food in this new location. Bonus of Thursday's special of all you can eat Prime rib with a prior reservation.
Melissa missteaks was a missteak just go to the keg
Our server, Kelly, was outstanding!
Happy hour was on and we were surprised to learn that they had spiced rum on happy hour and it was Sailor Jerry's. Our food was.. okay. We both got chicken burgers, that were pretty bland BUT that's kind of what we expected, ordering chicken at a steak restaurant. It was clean and they were constantly sanitizing. Very large space.
Prime rib was great definitely recommend this to everyone
While the food and service was good, the place was not cozy. For the price of the steak, you would expect it at least to be presented well, and include a side of veggies. I had baked potato and it was dry/ overbaked.
We loved this place before they closed for the move and we were so pleased to see they reopened. The interior is beautifully done, service was phenomenal and the food was better then we even remembered. Highly recommend!! Can’t miss this place.
At first we had trouble going up the stairs at their new location, then we were told no strollers allowed! So clearly if you are handicapped u can’t eat there!
The waitress was very unprofessional messed up our order and bill. We had to keep asking for coffee refill ( in the past they used to come around often enough and u don’t need to ask!) I ordered the prime rib with eggs there was hardly any meat in my plate , we were told by the waitress there is baby change station in the bathroom which was false ! Their excuse was it is a new location and they are not set up yet so why are u open ?! Overall we used to love this place and it was a tradition in banff for us however after this last visit we don’t think we will eat there again at least for a while .
Mel's was amazing! Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. Will absolutely be visiting again.
Service was good, food was ok was quite shocked no veggies with steak unless you paid $7! If your paying $40 for steak and rice with no veggies added kinda pricey!
Was very disappointed in our meal. I have been to the old restaurant plenty of times food was always Great. New
Location was nowhere near the quality the old place used to be. Would not recommend it for anyone
From the moment we walked in we felt welcome, not rushed or ignored. The server knew the menu and was able to make incredible suggestions that we took. We were not disappointed. I would absolutely recommend Melissa's to anyone who asked.
Service was great, food was delicious
We had our Valentine’s date here and it was awesome! We ordered Dry Ribs to start which became our favourite. It was crispy outside but tender inside! Really good! And for our main course we got steak which is amazing! The restaurant was surprising inside. They have a cool hangout ambiance. There was an arcade room which was close because of Covid. Definitely recommend this place!
This restaurant received a lot of hype as it has been around forever. The food was ok, nothing special. The service was really good, our server was very personable and attentive.
The location used to be a bar so not really the best ambience for what we were hoping would be an awesome steak dinner. Had been to the other location and it was amazing. The scene is more of a bar than a restaurant now and compared to the last time I went to MisSteak the quality was significantly decreased. Service was great though. The server was busting it as the place was very busy. I understand it had only been open for 6 days at the time and there are probably some growing pains so I’m not judging to harshly and would suggest trying again after the flow of the kitchen has improved.
Worst experience ever, nothing like the old Melissas MisSteak. My fiancé and I got the 5oz and 8oz fillet mignon steaks which came with bread and salad. We requested one salad to be swapped to the tomato Parmesan soup if it was possible which they were able to do. The Caesar salad dressing had no flavour, felt like I was just eating lettuce. The soup also had no flavour and after a few minutes of the waiter being gone we requested salt and pepper as we had none at the table. We had to ask for the bread to come as we were waiting a while for it, the waiter told us “it’s coming soon” and another 5 minutes went by until we received the bread. The bread was not warm, and extremely dry (we had to ask for a glass of water just to eat it). Very shortly after we received the bread we got our entree’s (normally you would receive the bread at the table first before the meal so you don’t have to eat one and not the other and have one go cold) Both of the steaks were undercooked, medium well steak was red throughout the inside, and medium rare steak essentially raw. Just barely grilled enough to appear cooked on the outside. We both got baked potatoes after being told they were almost out of them (was expecting them to be good as they were a popular choice) when they arrived the potatoes appeared shrivelled and dry on the outside. When cutting into them and trying to eat, entire potato was hard and skin chewy. As if they tried to cook it in a microwave. We requested them to be swapped for the mashed potatoes which came out absolutely scalding hot, as if they were in the microwave for minutes. We got a coffee to start when we arrived and had to ask for a top up, which evidentially we never even ended up getting as the waiter did not return. We also got a skillet of sautéed mushrooms with our meal and all of the mushrooms were still hard, just barely warmed up in the skillet. Terrible experience and will not be coming back again.
