Enjoy Southern comfort food with a twist in a relaxing, casual setting at Melba's. Owner Melba Wilson opened its doors for locals and travelers alike to have a pleasant dining experience with great service. Fried catfish strips, barbecue short rib sliders and spring rolls filled with black-eyed peas and collard greens make delicious appetizers before feasting on the main course. Guests can choose from entrées like Melba's popular Southern fried chicken with eggnog waffles, which was a winner on Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, as well as pan-seared sea bass and the barbecue turkey meatloaf. This restaurant also serves hamburgers, lighter fare and sides such as candied yams.
Melba's offers Saturday and Sunday brunch and caters business luncheons, receptions and more. Reservations are welcome, and takeout is available for guests.
Best southern cooking in NYC. Excellent friendly service. Fun atmosphere. A must try
And extra special that Melba greeted us ever so warmly!
Twas pretty good. Portion sizes are small for the prices. It was freezing inside the whole time. I believe one of the heaters was out. Great ambience tho! Great date spot! Would go again!
Deliciously authentic soul food and terrific ambiance. Melba’s treated us right. We will be back soon!
Loved it. We will visit this establishment frequently.
Great food and great vibrations! Would definitely go back!
The vibe is warm, like a spot to which longtime friends keep returning. The food is very well-prepared. The waiters pay attention without hovering. Unpretentious, real place. Try your luck, but a reservation may make more sense.
Some of the best soul food I've had in New York so far. I came on Valentine's Day, which is also my boyfriends birthday, and they allowed us to choose a slice of cake & had the entire restaurant sing for him. Really enjoyed it & I will definitely be back!
Amazing food, nice ambience, great service. I will again.
The food was delicious, per usual. The service wasn’t great but it didn’t overshadow my experience. My server expressed the issue with the timeliness of receiving our order without me asking. Management offered two items on the house.
The food was great!! Price was what I expected for NY but they crammed us into a table in the corner that was hard to get in and out of. They definitely tried to make the most out of their space but it was uncomfortable.
Food was absolutely delicious!! Staff was courteous and attentive. Can't wait to go back!!
The food was good. I usually order the same thing but this time tried the wings and waffle and the appetizer rolls. All was well. My guests had the beef ribs and the empanadas. They enjoyed their meals as well. I was thrown off by them being short on menus for us (party of 3) but the service and attention made up for it.
Love this place
I was a bit disappointed with my meal....the food was so good on my previous visits....the turkey sausage was overcooked and dry, and my waffle was a bit tough to cut...the service, however, was fabulous as usual.
Awesome staff! The went out of the way to assist us, show kindness, patience, and professionalism. My wife and I always bring friends to Melba’s and everyone loves it. Keep up the good service and the food remains better than the rest.
It is not often that a restaurant owner make themselves available to its patrons- but Melba herself has been there, and stays amongst the people - making herself available to talk and mingle. True Harlem love!
It was my birthday. I told my husband that I want to do something other than our traditional steak dinner - I wanted “soul food”. We always head from DC to NYC for my birthday. I’d been seeing a good friend of mine post on social media about Melba’s. I did a search for soul food and looked at the reviews. Then I searched to see how far we were staying.
We were greeted at the door by a nice guy who welcomed us. After being seated another nice young lady came by and told us about the menu.
I had the beef ribs, macaroni and cheese & greens. My husband had salmon, potato salad & macaroni and cheese.
The food was good. Dessert (pound cake) was excellent. They sang happy birthday to me. I’d definitely go back again.
Melba's was my 40th birthday celebration dinner location. First time there, the food, the service and ambiance was perfect. If you want to experience exceptional soul food with a touch of classy! This is the place. Can't wait to go again.
Everything was wonderful ambiance , service, food. The only thing that I was disappointed with what is the temperature. It was very cold inside. Diners were eating with their coats on — including me and my friend.
Went to Saturday brunch ordered the fried chicken with french toast my son and brother ordered the chicken with the eggnog waffle. Yummmy! best fried chicken ever, crispy juicy and well seasoned.
Love the at atmosphere laid back , relax, fun with great background music.
Excellent service, my waitress was great she was attentive answered all our questions, gave recommendations. Thanks enjoyed brunch with family.
It's my new fav in Harlem. Food was so good and Fresh. Loved every minute of my experience.
My relatives from South Caroline were so impresssed, and thank you for making my cousin feel so special on her Birthday. GREAT JOB, and wonderful dining experience!
I had a wonderful time dining with family, lots of energy in the restaurant. I Loved when the owner came in and had the waiters come back and sing happy birthday to a customer because she was not there when it was sung. Great Job! The food was Great, chicken and waffles were nicely season. Great night out.
When we arrived and told them that we had a reservation it did not take us long to get seated. I was very impressed by how pleasant and professional the gentleman was at the door. I imagine he might’ve been the host or maitre d. The only disappointment was when I saw that people who sat down after our group were served before we were. I’m not sure if it’s because we had an appetizer and maybe they didn’t. The food was delicious and my chicken was hot, my macaroni and cheese was hot, and my greens were warm but not as hot as the other food. The waitet was good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend and I would come back again myself .
I love me some Melba’s. The fried chicken is to die for. Delicious! One suggestion. Extremely cold in the dining room. Air constantly comes in and my food got cold the minute the waitress placed in our table.
I eat here often, it’s my go-to soul food place. Being from Chicago and having my family originate Louisiana and Alabama it’s the closest thing I can get to a home cooked souther meal. I love the oxtails, catfish, fried chicken and the black eyed pea spring rolls. Great service and fast!
Great place to dine after work and catch up with a friend or two. Excellent food and great location.
It was absolutely amazing! Noise level high because Tuesday evenings is open mic night!! The food is so good! There are so many favorites that I have and I'm a picky eater!!
It was to dark in the restaurant, I had to turn on my phone flash light to see the menu. Due to the cold weather myself and other customers had to move to different tables because it was a very cold draft by the windows. I could even enjoy my food because it was to cold in the restaurant. Food was luke warm.
Great food and great service!!
The food was delicious and I would return again. One thing that was strange was we were pleasantly rushed out the door. I had traveled far to meet my friends so one would think that as long as we were drinking we should have been able to stay but that wasn’t the case. I’ve never seen that happen before in New Jersey so I thought it was strange.
It’s fish and chicken based soul. Everything is great! I highly recommend. One of my favorite place in Harlem. Been there several times.
Great food! Worth going there for weekend brunch or evenings
A great place for fried chicken and Mac & Cheese. Great drinks.
Fallou M our server was very accommodating. I definitely will return.
The fried shrimp delicious along with the fried calamari = excellent. Very fresh.
We had a great time at Melba's! It was our first time dining in Harlem and we really felt welcomed for Sunday brunch. We made a reservation in advance (a day or two prior), and I highly suggest you do too, as this place is very popular and rightfully so. Cheers.
I love Melba’s this was my first time for brunch there and I would do it again. The food was so good I’m hoping to use them for my wedding next year this was our special brunch day for just us two of our engagement. Hopefully we can use them for our wedding brunch style, Fingers crossed we will surely be back!
Wonderful place with great atmosphere and food. We went for dinner and had a terrific time
Great food and great service. We stayed past the closing time finishing dinner and were still offered dessert, and felt no rush to leave. Food came out fast and had a really good time.
Great spot for comforting soul food! 90s music was the theme for our night, so no complaints from my party.
