Enjoy Southern comfort food with a twist in a relaxing, casual setting at Melba's. Owner Melba Wilson opened its doors for locals and travelers alike to have a pleasant dining experience with great service. Fried catfish strips, barbecue short rib sliders and spring rolls filled with black-eyed peas and collard greens make delicious appetizers before feasting on the main course. Guests can choose from entrées like Melba's popular Southern fried chicken with eggnog waffles, which was a winner on Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, as well as pan-seared sea bass and the barbecue turkey meatloaf. This restaurant also serves hamburgers, lighter fare and sides such as candied yams.
Melba's offers Saturday and Sunday brunch and caters business luncheons, receptions and more. Reservations are welcome, and takeout is available for guests.
The food was excellent we went to celebrate my aunt's 80th birthday and she is very picky. The food, service and atmosphere was very good and inviting. I will definitely go back with my family and friends.
Melba's is my go to favorite for southern comfort food. Dining with two friends, our catfish, mac and cheese and spinach was excellent. Especially my sweet potato pie! YUMMY!
Service was not good at all! Waited 40 minutes for an omelet and the restaurant was not very busy at this time. No bread/biscuits to fortify your guests until the food came? When the omelet arrived it was not the correct order. Credit given to the waiter to try to remedy the order by bringing out a new omelette. Waited 10 minutes to get a new omelette and parts of it were undercooked! Waiter apologized again and gave me a slice of sweet potato pie? Why? It was so sweet and tasted processed. Never again!
This was my first time at Melba's. It was amazing! The service was on point, the food was excellent, the decor/ambiance was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. Kudos to Melba's!
Superb comfort food; delicious flavors, fun ambiance. This was a great date. During the meal, my date commented, "if they offer takeout, it would be tempting to have this frequently." I look forward to going back.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. The service was great and the food was plentiful and tasty. I will definitely be returning.
I’m never disappointed when I go to Melba’s. The food is so flavorful and leaves you wanting more even though you are very full! Lol. The portions are just right and the service is friendly. It’s a wonderful ambience and is great place for any celebration!
My waitress Olay, was excellent. The food was good, though it came rather quickly. I like the feeling of knowing my food is cooked upon order. The noise level at the bar was excessive, causing dinning patrons some discomfort. I will be returning soon to try some other dishes.
Service was excellent, The staff was complete professional and friendly. Food was delicious and reasonable.
Excellent food and service. Tuesday night music is very good!
The food was GREAT!! We all tasted each other’s entrees which included sea bass, salmon, and chicken and waffles. The garlic-infused collard greens were scrumptious, but the showstopper was the spring rolls that consisted of collard greens and black eyed peas amongst other things—simply AMAZING!! I had never had anything quite like them and they were GOOD, our compliments to the chef 👌🏾 and thank you to my friends, and Harlem, NY, residents, Sharnee and her sister Sharron ❤️ Melba’s is very highly recommended by us... great ambiance as well.
Love Melba's. Had not been in a minute and was happy to stop by on Sunday. Make a reservation. It gets crowded. Loved the food and the atmosphere. And I also had family visiting from out of town and they truly enjoyed as well. Melba (the owner) happened to be there when we were there and she is always so pleasant. One of my fave spots in Harlem.
The food is always great and staff is extremely helpful and attentive.
We LOVED Melba's. You definitely have to make a reservation as the restaurant is small and intimate. The GM was VERY accommodating when we had to make a last minute addition to our table. I would HIGHLY recommend. The drinks were strong, service SUPERB, and food AMAZING
We were seated fairly quickly after we arrived. Our waitress very helpful to our group in anwsering questions about menu items. I had the smothered chicken and eggnog waffels and a mango mimosa. Everything was delicious and we had a great time there.
Great food in a nice setting and s really comfort food
It’s was my 31th birthday with friend and this was the BEST place to have it. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT!
Great food - love this place
Vibrant atmosphere, authentic cooking, attentive service. The place is divided between two rooms, the bar, where you enter, and an adjoining dining room, a bit cramped, but not uncomfortably so and this IS New York. Melba's is a nice neigborhood spot, informal, with live music in the bar some nights. Reservations recommended. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.
Absolutely a great experience. We dined on a Sunday evening. Our selected items were out to us within 5-10 minutes of placing the order. From the Maître D to the server to the bartender and even the chef, they were inviting and attentive. The food was awesome... Chicken and Waffles, Short Ribs, Harlem Tea, Strawberry Henny, and the Coconut Cake. Delicious
The experience was fantastic. Perfect brunch place.
We were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived, upon opening of the restaurant. Service and food were excellent!
I had 10pm reservations, I got there around 9:30 and they seated me. The service could definitely been better but the food & drinks were so good I would go back! Definitely a must visit if you’re in Harlem/Manhattan!
100%. Food was amazing, staff was friendly, attentive, flexible, etc. We had a toddler with us, and even though the place looks like a bit upscale to take a noisy toddler to, (we are visiting and just wanted good waffles, usually I try to avoid nicer places with the baby) they were friendly and accommodating and sweet to our little terror, and got everything out smoothly and quickly so we could check out before he had a meltdown.
The chicken and waffles was outstanding, I wish I could go back for the shrimp and grits. I will be back on my next trip to NYC.
I would recommend Melba's anytime! The staff was fantastic and the food was great (the Mac and cheese was soooo good)! I know for a fact that I will be going back.
My dining experience was satisfactory. The food was amazingly Great! My table was not prepared with the proper items (i.e. salt, pepper, hot sauce, etc.), I had to take from a neighboring table next to me...
I would recommend Melba’s as a place for food to go and not stay. The service quality is horrible ! The first time I went had a great waitress but this recent time the waiter was terrible . Then the wait time for the food was even worse. We waited almost a hour for rumple dishes. Shrimps and waffles plus grits and shrimp . I mean you would have thought they went to the Atlantic Ocean to catch the shrimp.
My friends & I truly enjoyed ourselves. Wonderful experience.
The service was good but I felt the wait staff was stretched to the limit...at times it took the waiter a long tine to come over to us bc he had a lot of tables to take care of
Nice location and decent brunch menu. Mango mimosas were amazing. Our waitress was really nice but they could use more staff help during brunch hours
I have been to this restaurant for dinner in the past. However, this was the first time I had the opportunity to enjoy brunch. Great food and music along with a mature crowd. Good vibes.
Execellent time with my sisters while we ate exceptional food and great drinks. The service was also excellent...big shout-out to Brian, our server!
My birthday was incredible! The whole restaurant sang to me! The food was INCREDIBLE!
Me and my hubby went here to celebrate his 50th birthday at the recommendation of a family member and they did not disappoint! It had a warm family-style feel that we appreciated and at the end of our meal during dessert the staff and customers sang Happy Birthday and really surprised both of us. Our experience left us feeling warm, welcomed and wanted. We will definitely return to try different menu options!! Excellent..
The food here is always great, but really, the restaurant should serve cornbread. Can't be southern without cornbread
A friend recommended Melba's for our recent trip to New York City, and we are so glad that we followed her recommendation. The late-afternoon/early-evening sunshine pouring in through the large windows fronting the street made the restaurant absolutely glow with warmth and comfort. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was spectacular. The customers were lively and friendly. My son had the unbelievable chicken and waffles, my husband had the oxtail, and I had pan-seared sea bass with greens and macaroni. Everything was wonderful.
This is not my first time at this restaurant usually the food is awsome but this last visit left me unsatisfied. My meal was not as tasty as I am use to I could tell I was given the leftovers from the previous night. My food did not taste fresh being that I'm a cook and a foodie I could taste the difference from before and now.
We had 7:00pm reservations on a Saturday night and although it was a super busy night with lots of big parties we were greeted right away in a very friendly manner. We had a short wait for our table at the bar just long enough to order a drink. We told our waitress that we were on a time schedule. She was real attentive and accommodating making sure the kitchen and manager was aware of our time frame. We received our dinner on time and everything was delicious! Our only regret is we didn't have time to have dessert.
I liked the overall cozy feel of the restaurant. It's small and comfortable. The service was very good and our server Brian was patient and had good knowledge of the food menu and the drinks. The food was delicious and the drinks were well made. I will definitely go back. I do recommend making a reservation rather than walking in.
1. Even with a reservation my party of 2 waited at least 15 minutes for a table.
2. Our chicken on the chicken and waffles dish was too dry.
3. The Chocolate Girl Martini was very good.
