    Join us at Mélange Arcadia for a one night only culinary experience with Chef Bret Thompson of Pez Coastal Kitchen in Pasadena. Pez Coastal Kitchen, located in a stunning 1896 historic building in the heart of Pasadena, is the latest concept from Chef Bret Thompson and his wife, Lucy Thompson Ramirez. Transformed by Margee Drews Design, the space brings a California Mediterranean coastal feel to life with grand arches, lush greenery, Havana style fans, and a vibrant cocktail bar overlooking an open kitchen. Known for delivering elevated coastal cuisine, thoughtful hospitality, and striking design, Pez Coastal Kitchen has quickly become one of Pasadena’s most talked about dining destinations. Now, Chef Bret brings his signature style to Mélange Arcadia for a multi course dinner celebrating sustainable seafood, bold flavors, and refined pairings. The evening begins with an indulgent seafood station featuring kingfish ceviche tostaditas, Kaluga caviar with smoked Ora King salmon, Kusshi oysters, and live scallop aguachile served over crushed ice and paired with Bouvet Ladubay Crémant de Loire. Courses to follow include: • Hokkaido scallop and Bluefin tuna “ravioli” in chilled dashi • Crispy softshell crab with green papaya slaw • Grilled veal loin with spring vegetables and morels • A showstopping crispy duck breast with pistachio mole and Luxardo cherry demi Dessert is a playful and nostalgic take on strawberry shortcake. Each course is expertly paired with wines including Barone Fini Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige, The Calling Dutton Ranch Chardonnay, and selections from Burgundy. Chef Bret, also the chef behind DTLA’s Pez Cantina, draws inspiration from his childhood fishing trips out of San Pedro and years spent exploring the Baja coastline. His cooking is soulful, layered, and always rooted in seasonality and sustainability.     I’m conflicted on rating my/our overall experience. The venue is beautiful! The location and decor is very sophisticated and modern! Also, the 3 hours of free valet parking is not common! I was pleased with the parking accommodations. The food is what brought the experience down. My friend and I ordered from the $10 menu. The items ordered wasn’t memorable. I’ll come again and order from the main menu in hopes of having a better experience. Also, I was happy to hear this venue has several nights of live music.

    Despite setting a reservation, we still had to wait 30 minutes after checking in before being seated. Once we were seated we were handed menus and told our waiter would be with us shortly, however we were never approached. After 25 minutes of waiting and watching tables seated after us being given appetizers, without us even being given water, we decided to move our celebration to a different restaurant. We would like to give them the benefit of the doubt given we expected Valentine’s Day to be exceedingly busy, but not even being offered water while we waited for so long felt too unreasonable.

    Very nice dinner with nice service. It was a bit pricey, and they added a holiday surcharge....it was Christmas Night, and because we were traveling, we were happy to be able to have a nice dinner at our hotel on this holiday, and we hope that the surcharge helps make it worth employees' while to work on Christmas. I had the whole Branzino, and it was delicious. It's deep-fried, which seemed like a negative, but the way they did it made the fish super tender and tasty inside. I just didn't eat the battered skin (which likely tasted good, but had more of the frying oil). Wanted to sub veggies for the rice that comes with it, but they wouldn't do that (understandable....fresh veggies cost more to them than rice), but I added a side of Bok choy. My husband had salmon that he enjoyed as well. We were too full for dessert :).

    What a beautiful restaurant and hotel! Our server, Rachel, was so sweet. The food was delicious! The restaurant didn't seem that busy, but it did take a bit longer than expected for the food to arrive. Otherwise, it was amazing! We will definitely go back!
