We provide full catering services on site live cooking showcases, to large scale buffets, to box- lunch service. Some of our specialties include mobile tandoor ovens, live dosa station and make your own chaat station.
Authentic Indian cuisine, very moderately priced, generous portions, pleasant atmosphere, conveniently located for pre-theatre meal.
I ordered the lamb shank special and it was obviously precooked (as you would expect) but it was still cold after having been removed from the refrigerator...this was fifteen minutes AFTER my companion was served her main course. disapppointing
Adequate Indian near Calderwood Pavilion for a pre-theater dinner.
They subsist on volume - no one cares.
Love this place! I’ve been here every week that I’ve traveled to Boston. Excellent food served in a cozy, quiet atmosphere.
The chaat papri was just sweet sauce over wafers, did not have sev/chick pea etc- not aunthentic. The paneer makhani and malai kofta had the same gravy. The kofta was not cooked well. The next we went to Holi and it was so much better and great value for money!
Our meal was delicious and reasonably priced. We eat Indian food frequently but found some new dishes here that we had not had before. Service, unfortunately, was poor. We had a reservation and were seated quickly but then it was a long time before a server came to take our orders. My husband ordered a glass of wine and received about a half of a glass (this seemed to be an anomaly, as other diners at other tables had more standard quantities). The wine was excellent and we were going to order a bottle, but our server never returned so that we could place the order.
Great food. Very good prompt service. Friendly wait staff.
If your taste buds are seeking authentic Indian cuisine, then you must try Mela Restaurant. The food is fresh, expertly prepared, and the Indian spices season the dishes wonderfully. Accompany your meal with its oven-baked Nan or Roti and you get the fully outstanding eating experience.
We were made to wait for 30 minutes after arriving because they didn’t honor reservations. Don’t bother making one.
Overall, it was very good. The service was average. Out waitress may have been new. she was a little confused and quite timid, but the food was excellent.
Small place with a unique decor, but the music selection was odd. Food was great! We had multiple servers over the course of our dinner so that was confusing bc they didn’t seem to communicate about our Groupon, they didn’t know what we’d had to drink, etc but we’d go back. The coconut sorbet was phenomenal! And GREAT curry
Great food. Often go here when visiting Boston for great Indian food with vegetarian options
It was our first time there and the food and service were wonderful. We will be back!
I would highly recommend the lamb chops! so tender and tasty that you are so sad when you take the last bite. Everything was delicious.
Excellent Indian from the perspective of a spoilt for choice Brit. A good menu and genuinely good food. Well worth a visit.
This was not my first time at Mela. I am out of state and enjoy this restaurant when I am staying in this neighborhood (This was my 4th time.) As a solo diner it had been a big disappointment not to have an option of a Thali meal to have a variety of dishes. This time, because I had a frig where I was staying, I got the idea to have the dinner for 2, take half to go, and that way I got the variety that I had been wanting: and a couple more meals for later!
I really liked all the dishes: soup, samosa- crispy and not too greasy-, naan, raita, palak paneer, vegetarian balls in a delicious curried sauce, rice, rice pudding, and chai. Also, tasted delicious the next day, reheated for dinner. The server was a little confused at first about my plan, but once understood, he- and the management- accommodated my choice. (They also held the food in a big bag in the take out containers for me until after the play at Calderwood was over and I would come back by on my walk back to were I was staying.) I still want to have it work to do the buffet...I'll keep coming back either way.
I've been here many times. I have to say I was disappointed with the food this time. The only fresh thing we received was the Garlic Naan. All of the food was refried or reheated. No one goes to a restaurant for reheated food.
We arrived on time for an 8 pm reservation and we were seated right away. The server didn’t come over to the table until 20 minutes after we were seated. Once we placed our order, the appetizers came out fairly quickly and were very good. We ordered the vegetarian appetizer platter. The main course however took a very long time to arrive. When it was brought to the table it was lukewarm instead of hot. The food was good and nicely spiced, but it would have been much nicer if it was hot. Dessert was a nice finish to the meal. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would go back to Mela again, but the waitstaff needs to work on their timing for taking orders and delivering food so that meals arrive at the table hot. Otherwise the food was enjoyable and I would recommend Mela to friends.
They were understaffed and it showed. Too busy paying attention to take out orders.
Expensive entrées no better than the food you can get in Central Square for half the money. The environment is mildly tacky. The drinks were good.
Wonderful cosy neighborhood gem. The food was great, all staff are extremely friendly.
Love this place!
Best Indian food ever!
Fabulous and delicious, staff was very nice
As usual, the warm, kind staff at Mela gave us an excellent meal!
Very good and healthy Indian cuisine, with a wide choice on the menu. Prices are reasonable.
Awesome!! The food was great and the service very good!
not good sitting arrangement, chairs were loosing cushions , smell in environment
Nice owners and wait staff but food was ordinary and wouldn’t go back.
I love Indian food, and have had the fortune to enjoy great Indian food in NYC and London. My favorite in NYC is Tamarind. And this is my comparasine. I’m happy to have good Indian in Boston, as at Mela and Nirvana, Cambridge. So happy about that. But this is at another level than the best in NYC. This is more 6th Street, East Village. But so happy to have good Indian food in Boston.
I would say the food was very good and well prepared . Sad to say felt cleanliness if place could be a lot better also better atmosphere would be appreciated. Its a shame would have most certainly been back .
Great place for authentic Indian cuisine and great place to get together with friends. Vegan friendly as well!
I am so glad I chosse to try Mela. I had not been to Mela in many, many years, thinking it was somewhat bland. Reality is quite the opposite. The food was excellent; very tasty. It is now back in my regular rotation.
Great service with good attention for details. Lots of vegetarian options.
I suggest to order bunch of stuff and share them!
Service was impeccable and everything was cooked to order and perfectly prepared. We were especially pleased with the chicken saag.. We will be back.
Great service! Food was great, fit to the spiciness level we requested!
Delicious food and wonderful service. I came here with my family a few years ago and we have always remembered it for it's fantastic all-you-can-eat lunch. I brought my boyfriend there last night and we absolutely loved it. Very affordable, very satisfying, and extraordinarily homey. Would 110% recommend.
This is a great little place right near the theaters on Tremont Street. The ambiance is nice, the food is very good, and the service is great. I will be coming here more often!
This was first time at Mela; I feel I would need to give it another chance before being able to recommend it. For Indian food, prices were on the higher side, which would have been fine if the sauce to ingredient ratio was generous. Sadly, I found myself fishing for pieces of seafod and vegetable in the Marsala sauce of my dish. My dining companion ordered duck, specifically requesting "spicy" seasoning. The tough pieces of bird that she got were disappointing, even more so because the spice was so mild, we sent it back for heat, which they provided by sprinkling more curry powder on the dish. The service was good and attentive. We went for a pre-theater meal and were served quickly and made our curtain time comfortably. The tamarind margarita was delicious. We were seated in a section that had young children at tables on either side of us, so it seems to be a family friendly destination. As I said, not a satisfying first impression, but would like to give it another chance before crossing permanently off my list.
