We were rudely interrupted by the waitress countless times prior to looking at the menu to the point where we were really visably upset. The waitresses all stand so close to the tables at the bar that they could easily be summoned or look at us easily noticing when we would be ready to order or need their assistance. We thought she was rushing to turn over the table but as it turned out there were many tables available throughout our dinner. Funny thing was that our waitress disappeared half way through our dinner and never showed up to fill our glasses, check if we wanted another drink, check for dessert order or to just let us know she was leaving. It took 5 to 10 minutes to get another waitresses attention to bring over the check. Not sure why I left a 20% tip when the waitress deserved nothing other than it was a first date in my date's neighborhood so I didn't want to embarrass her. As it turned out she has no desire to ever go back there. I get better meals and service using Groupon but on this night I paid full price for less than 1/2 the service.
I was very busy and so my review is late. I enjoyed my dinner there. I took my grandson as it is close to where he lives. I enjoyed having a good neighborhood restaurant. The food and the service were excellent. The choices were excellent.
Mela was fine, and service was friendly & helpful. Food was generally good but relatively expensive for the choices. Bean dip appetizer was soupy with a few tiny triangles of pita. Tuna was tasty.
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food, ambiance, and staff were at Mela East. I booked the restaurant based on reviews I had read online, and they definitely lived up to the hype. My friend and I had the beet salad, spinach and cauliflower dip, and 2 pastas - everything we ordered was fantastic! We also ordered a delicious bottle of wine, and all in all the total bill didn't break the bank. Will definitely be going back soon.
service was slow and not good. walked in the restaurant and wasn't sure if we should sit or wait to be seated.... staff not super friendly.
MELA is one of my neighborhood's favorites. Always courteous service, good food.
Went on a Monday night and it was nice and quiet. Our waitress was nice, patient and very helpful. We had the burrata, scallops and gnocchi. All were delicious! The gnocchi was my favorite. Absolu
Went for Mom's birthday dinner, it was fantastic!
Eggs Benedict was delicious!
Was not great. Portions were very small and inconsistent, service was spotty. I was so excited to bring my girlfriends here for brunch and we all left starving. Such a let down. Our waitress was sweet but seemed overwhelmed.
Was expecting more from the upper east side spot. The ambiance is great but unfortunately the food was not.
Great meal. Excellent service.
Tried the restaurant for the first time. Surprisingly good food and wine. Nice atmosphere, good service. We will certainly go back.
Delicious food in pretty, rustic setting. Good service; great new addition to neighborhood.
The food was great, everyone really enjoyed our apps and entrees. The service was spotty. It was hard to find our waitress sometimes. They forgot one of our entrees and one of our desserts. It also took a really long time. Other than that, we enjoyed it.
Service ruined it.
My friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant. Despite that, the food was ill prepared, and the service was slow
Amazing food and service.
Horrible food and service! Never going back.
While our server was very nice the overall experience is questionable. Food served cold (chicken piccata), penne dish was not cooked, and one dish just didn't show up after asking 3 times. We all ate at different times. My husband said something to the owner and he literally could care less. The waitress felt badly. It was beyond her control.
Fabulous ambiance. We had a 12:30pm brunch res (they open at 11:30am), and they were already out of bacon and gruyere cheese. The portions were somewhat small considering prices, but otherwise good.
A great UES find. Only open since October 2016, Mela East is destined to be a neighborhood gem. In search of a new UES restaurant that is gluten-free friendly, thanks to Open Table we found Mela East. Their Mediterranean fare was pleasing, the portions plentiful, and the cost moderate. Overall, a great dining experience.
Efficient friendly service. Great meal. Fun atmosphere
The food was over priced and not very good. The servers were very nice, but the service was slow.
I took my boyfriend here for a deal i found online. really cute place. i went for lunch so it was really quiet and kind of early still. the cheese plate is a must and their linguine with assorted seafood.
Thanks for a great dinner with friends! The food was delicious, atmosphere was perfect, and our waitress with amazing blue hair was the best!
While the server was friendly I did not agree with her pasta recommendation and that left a bad taste in my mouth. They also had no specials which I find odd in an Italian restaurant that is trying hard to be more upscale.
While the flatbread app was delicious, the pasta amatriciana was bland & the pasta carbonara tasteless.
The restaurant was very pretty and the appetizers especially yummy. Service was pleasant. Main courses took a while to come out but were good once they arrived. We would definitely go back.
Excellent food and attentive service. The place is comfortable and inviting. The curated menu offers great choices. The prices are very reasonable. A wonderful place.
Wonderful food and staff. Cozy feel. You don't feel like you're in a NYC restaurant. The rustic charm made me think I was in a ski lodge!
The service was good. The food was ok. Not bad but not excellent either.
The service was okay it was pretty empty when we got there but full when we left. It was sometimes hard to get our servers attention especially when asking for the check.
As far as food goes, my table felt it was all just okay which isn't great when it comes to brunch in NYC. I had steak and eggs & asked for medium rare. Unfortunately, my steak came Well done and chewy. By the time the server asked if everything was okay we were well into the meal for me to ask for another. So I let it go.
Also, would be nice if they had almond or soy milk as an alternative for coffee. The lactose allergy struggle is real.
They took on a party of 6 with two kids at the last minute with ease. The food was delicious and the environment relaxing. We didn't feel like it was a burden to have us there, as sometimes happens with kids.
Good food at a good price. Cozy and nicely decorated.
Our first time! Loved the food, service and atmosphere. It was very busy and loud but we enjoyed it all.
Would like soups added to menu
It's annoying when the on-line menu doesn't match what the restaurant is actually offering, and
this was sadly the case when we arrived. We all wanted the pancakes and egg souffle, and both were not on the menu.
Service was good, but when ordering coffee with half and half, to be told they never have it is just strange. It's a restaurant staple! And, all coffee ordered was weak. In a city with excellent coffee, this is really not acceptable. Tables here are small, so if you're with a party of 5-6 like we were, you'll find that the extra-large plates they use just can't be accommodated all at once. We had to shuffle things around to get them to fit, and staff should have done that before coming all at once with 5 entrees!
Great homemade pasta
Octopus was fresh
Service was excellent
