MeJana Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten at several Lebanese restaurants in the Washington area and have found them to be very good, but Me Jana was exceptionally fine. The cuisine selection was outstanding and the service left little to be desired. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance and the noise level was low. Me Jana is the perfect place for an intimate dinner, especially if you dine on the early side as we did. While the entrees were excellent, we were particularly fond of the appetizers, namely the Ablama (zucchini stuffed with beef, spices, pinenuts, and onion with rice and a delicious sauce). The grape leaves were also some of the best we have ever tasted. I would really recommend staying for dessert, particularly the Halawet el Jeba (rolled sweet cheese, stuffed with Achta--milk pudding--pistachio and rose water). We want to return the next time we are staying in the area.
Visiting DC on a freezing cold weekend - our family stayed at the Hyatt Place across the street, and the staff recommended this restaurant. We enjoyed the every dish - pita bread was a die-for item, the kebabs (lamb) was better and juicier than beef. While dining there, I saw two big middle eastern families with ~ 8 kids came in. It must be a very authentic Lebanese restaurant. I highly recommended it - together with the family friendly hotel.
This was pretty good. I made a reservation for brunch based on the outstanding Yelp reviews. For appetizers we ordered the mhammara and thyme fries. The dip was very good. I wish the accompanying pitas were either grilled or at least warm, but they were good nontheless. The thyme fries were nothing special. We ordered a mixed grill and 2 piece lamb chops. The chops were tender and delicious. All three items in the mixed grill were a bit overcooked/ tough. So I guess in summary half our experience was very good. Service and atmosphere were excellent.
I was surprised by the mess up and lack of good service. It was our Anniversary. My husband and I had our lamb cooked the reverse of what we had asked. His was cooked to my liking and mine was cooked to his liking. We complained to the waitress, who brought over a young woman who offered to fix it but we didn't want to wait and just switched dishes, and it was ok. I never got any water in my glass, and the we didn't have the correct knives to cut the lamb with. Then I ordered a Sambuca, and the waiter recommended Sambuca Black. It was not to my liking. Way too strong. I told the waitress but she did not take it off my bill. It wasn't worth another moment of my time at that point. We paid our bill and will not be going back.
I have dined at Me Jana several times. It is excellent Lebanese food! Whenever I am in DC, I make a point to dine there! Everything is made fresh and is delicious! The tabouli, hoomus, raw kibbee, grape leaves, and kafta are some favorites. I recently took my college son and his friends to dinner, and they all raved about it and want to go back! The owner and waiters are very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Me Jana for Lebanese food lovers!
We reserved the table in advance through Open Table and were, quite frankly, treated like royalty as a result. The owner was waiting for us, and even sent a text message in advance with information about the free parking in the parking garage next door (they validate your parking stub at the restaurant). The food was quite good; we had lamb chops which were cooked to perfection, a lamb shoulder that was very tender, and Branzino fish which was delicious. Grape leaves appetizer were fresh, tasty, and crisp, not soggy at all.
The Tavo Pinot Grigio was not quite dry enough for my taste, and I wish I had chosen something else.
The service was attentive and friendly. The dining area was trendy, medium lighting, quiet (certainly no TV screens!), and lots of window seats (sidewalk seating in the summer).
The rating here should not be taken to be a 5-star restaurant like Spago's, but compared to other $40 meals to be had in the DC area, this is one of the best.
This was the first time in more than a year that I've been to Me Jana. I don't know if it was an off night or whether there was some deeper change, but I thought the food wasn't as good as I remembered. It was the 2nd night after Eid, so there were a lot of people dining there. Perhaps that was why it seemed off.
From the moment we arrived we felt like old friends. The owner greeted us with such a warm welcome and gave us the best table outside. Our waiter was fabulous and so knowledgable about the menu, Lebanon and life in general. It was almost like being with family. The food was superb. We ordered the mixed grill, which was seasoned perfectly, served hot on a lovely kabob grill with charcoals. Next time we will order the whipped garlic butter as a side for the table of 4. We had just come from having hors d'houvres at home. Next time, we'll sample theirs. The ambiance as the evening became dark, was as though we were in the Mediterranean. Perfect lighting. Every table was filled and it was not noisy. Loved it and will return often. Remember to make a reservation, although it isn't always necessary.
Family went for a celebratory dinner. Was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. Authentic flavors. We all enjoyed the grilled meat that was brought out on a mini grill.
Service was prompt without being overbearing. We sat outside, noise level as expected - but not loud. We could converse easily. Prices reasonable. Would go back again.
