I took the trip to Megu to celebrate my birthday with my parents and boyfriend. If you're gluten free as I am, the menu annotates everything that is gluten free! Our waiter Josh really helped make my birthday dinner special! He was very knowledgeable about the different sakes and menu options. Josh also created a really wonderful atmosphere for me to celebrate my birthday in and managed to surprise me with a really delicious dessert that he made sure was gluten free!
This was our first time at Megu. Great restaurant, fresh fish. The stairway at the entrance is beautiful. Our server Josh was the best. We appreciated his recommendations as this was our first time.
Great place for sushi in the city. The ambience was super cool. DJ playing music was a nice touch. Sushi was amazing! Chocolate martini was really good as well! Highly recommend!
I purchased a Pulsd deal and made a reservation at Megu for dinner. The experience was so terrible, my husband and I left before even ordering food. Upon arrival, we found out that they had cleared the entire center of the dining room for a networking event and had a few tables scattered along the sides of the same room for diners with reservations. There were 60+ people standing around, yelling, drinking heavily, and it would have been impossible to enjoy any type of dinner here. The host looked dumbfounded when I asked for a table in another room and made zero effort to provide a comfortable environment.
We like the chef’s sushi combination . They are amazing.!
My wife and I were planning a dinner date night last week, and with a craving for sushi we both wanted to try Megu. We used to live in the Chelsea area, and unfortunately moved before the new Megu location opened. We made a reservation eager to see what all of the hype was about, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with the decision. While the menu is quite extensive with "modern Japanese" as the theme, we stuck with sushi and cocktails. Every roll was delicious, whether we went with a more traditional yellowtail and scallion, or some of their creative rolls like Megu and Dream rolls. Fish was incredibly fresh and the specialty rolls incorporated some cool ingredients like crispy potato, and Asian pear. We each had a couple of cocktails, our favorite was the Tea Ceremony. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in need of a cool date spot; the music, vibe, food and drinks were all spot on! Can't wait to go back!
The food was delicious and the service was great! I will definitely come back to enjoy more sushi and try other food.
I chose megu last night for an important business dinner based on recommendation of a friend. I was thoroughly impressed from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and brought to our table. Ambience was great, with some after work crowd at the bar and a pretty busy night for a Wednesday. Our sever was very attentive and gave us a run through of the megu "highlights" or signature dishes. We ordered mostly based on his direction, and nothing fell short of amazing. The salmon belly tacos were a big hit among our group, and our omakase sushi course was fresh, filling and delicious.
For our entrees the kagero yaki filet came flambeed table side and cooked on hot stones; the show that dish put on was a great way to impress my client!
For drinks we ended up tasting several Japanese whiskies, as they had an extensive list.
Overall I couldn't be more impressed or happy with my decision to bring my guests to megu. I never got to eat at any of the old megu locations, but I can't wait to go back to this one.
The waitress missed a step, waited an hour for sushi, she forgot one of the orders. Said that there was only one chef making them and the restaurant was not busy, maybe 8 tables open out 50 tables available. I know someone forgot our order. Food was good, not the best I’ve ever had.
I just proposed to my fiancé and made reservations for dinner being that this was the first place we met 5 years ago (but different location ) . As soon as we got there their was a man who works there seating people arguing with the host which I thought was very unprofessional right in front of us.
As we sat down and place our order for our favorite appetizer the tuna tar tar left us in disappointment. IT tasted awful. The waitress who took our order said they changed the recipe . We couldn’t eat it that’s how weird it tasted. They gladly took it off the bill and we sent it back.
Lastly, because we had just got engaged I thought maybe they would at least do something for us on the house like a glass of champagne or desert ( after all the bill was almost $300) . For such an upscale restaurant that didn’t even happen. I was so shocked.
Overall the experience was not like the other location that closed down. For such a fancy place the food was also a disappointment . Will not be eating here again .
Good food. Not our choice next time.
Megu is an dining experience. You enter through a door on the street but immediately descend down a long staircase to the lower level with pink neon lights. The service was friendly and attentive. Appetizers were very good - our party shared the Spicy Cheese Dumplings, Crispy Rock Shrimp and Nori Salmon Belly Tacos and they were all delicious. Kani Salad and Megu Sushi roll were both tasty too. We enjoyed the signature tequila ginger cocktails!! This place is fun and funky with a DJ at the bar. My only complaint is they don't have enough bathrooms for the restaurant (only two for all the patrons)! This restaurant is also a bit expensive.
I like, the best food! And perfect atection! Is beuatiful place, perfect ubication! The cocktails all is good! Thanks for everything!
Friendly waitress, food was excellent, a little to dark in the restaurant, one toilet was broken, no sushi sticks!!!! How come - no sushi sticks in a Japanese restaurant? Why didn’t you just went up in the street and bought some??? Drinks, which I have been drinking before, wasn’t good at all.
When we have paid, the waitress confront us, because we didn’t gave him enough tips. We explained them why and they seem to understand us.
Please - we have been at the old Megu at st. Thomas st. It was top class. I am sorry to say - the new Megu isn’t closed to the old Megu level.
Never have I had so poor service, not anywhere. Food was good, but with these prices I would have expected a bit more. Wouldnt visit this place again, nothing good to say.
To be expected for a NYC sushi restaurant. Food was decent, but portions weren’t very large and it was very expensive. They were also out of Edamame. What kind of Japanese restaurant runs out of Edamame?!?
The service left a lot to be desired. They didn't have chopsticks and we were forced to eat the nigiri with our hands, that's unacceptable.
Restaurant had Great service , memorable menu. We celebrated my friends birthday and the service was great. Menu was higher priced, and drinks had no prices listed but ran approx $18 each. Great playlist and not too loud but still a fun atmosphere. Would recommend.
Tasteless sushi, and freezing ambient . Never again.
We had a wonderful dining experience. Food was fantastic and the service was seamless. The Kimono fabric that decorates the ceilings and some of the walls are gorgeous. Definitely will be coming back again soon ;)
good food but very expensive. nice service and good location.
Amazing venue for drinks with friends or a date. Staff are super attentive and friendly
Waiting staff were all over the place. Our wait time for different dishes was v sporadic
It's a place to be seen, but don't eat the food! The grilled charcoal apps and Special Prawn is not very good, and definitely not worth the prices.
Great food, good scene !!
This was my first time at Megu and I must say I was so satisfied with my visit. The restaurant is beautiful , noise level is perfect. The Host was extremely welcoming and friendly , and he accommodated us right away. The server was helpful with offering suggestions. The food was Amazing !!!!!!!! And they sent me a dessert for my birthday. I left full and very happy. I will definitely be visiting Megu again. One of my FAV restaurants! Thank you !
Forse abbiamo sbagliato a ordinare, ma i prezzi erano veramente troppo elevati per quello che ti davano da mangiare.
Nel complesso niente di speciale
IM not sure were to start it was my big 40 birthday I had a reservation for dinner for 20 people scheduled at 10 pm. We actually start eating at midnight . When we got there the restaurant was crowded so they had us waiting at the bar area my entire party was standing around with no area to sit everyone was confuse . The host told me to wait about 10 minutes the prior party is wrapping up . We was left in the middle of the restaurant for 1 hour and a half . I was already getting frustrated mind you I was dress like a Queen and I had senior citizen invite with no place to sit down. At 11:30 pm the host cam and accommodate us at a area temporarily but we still couldn’t fit because my party was huge. So they offered us preseco from the house. That was nice but just imagine we are hungry at this time and the first thing we put inside our system was alcoholic beverage . Finally they moved us to a better location were we was comfortable. This happen at midnight . My after party guest arrived and we haven’t even had dinner as yet . I was so turned off I was just complying to finish my party and go home . I decided not to buy any bottles etc because the service was unacceptable. All my invites were friends and clients and they felt the same way . We called the manager he gave us a discount . But to be honest the entire party should be for free because Megu didn’t comply with the contract . They promise after party music etc . Is been a week I called and email management I haven’t received a call or emailed . For a such an expensive restaurant it didn’t match my expectation .I won’t drop a dollar there again . But hey I had to many people to walk out so I made it work by smiling because I was happy so see my family friends and clients . Other than that Megu 0 points from my party
Was following the Instagram of this restaurant for a while before going and it was not what I expected it seems that it’s suppose to be a trendy place but it’s just an impression
The food was good but service was not the waiter forgot us and told us at the end
This place is clearly overrated and people wants to show off but at the end of the day it’s just a bar restaurant and you can have better deals elsewhere
Beautiful decor and ambiance. Music was just the right amount of intrusive. The sushi wasn’t spectacular and a bit over priced. The star of this location is the Japanese decor and bolts of beautiful fabric adorning the ceiling
total waste of money, definitely not worth the money. I would not go there again.
great customer service !! beautiful decor.. definitely a hot spot :)
Very tasty & tons of menu options - cozy, hip interior - server was very knowledgeable about the menu.
Staff was very friendly; atmosphere was romantic; food was over-rated for the price. Customer service was little slow despite being a slow day after the Nor’easter snow storm. Music was little too loud getting the table right beneath the speakers. Overall, 3 stars at best.
Had an amazing evening at Megu for 14 people!.
The staff were fantastic and the food and services was exceptional..
Thanks for looking after us Megu Team!
We were a large group and the waiter offered to give us some options family style. The food was excellent, albeit over-priced and the waiter ordered way too much food for us (in hindsight we should have checked what exactly he had planned for us before it was brought to the table, but it was so loud that it was hard to communicate with him). Apart from some sides and appetisers there we no vegetarian options on the menu. Service was quite slow, especially in the beginning. They gave us one drinks menu for a table of 14.
It was a very nice place to have diner. Our server was nice.
Let’s make this simple, Ive ate good and great Japanese/Sushi in NYC.
Megu is Extremely overpriced, from drinks to entrees the pricing is ridiculous.
The food is good, aside from the Omakase which was disappointing and very uninteresting the overall quality of food is good and tasty.
Presentation is nice, some dishes have their own serving trays and mini presentation with fire or visual effects.
Ambience was nice, it’s a dim lit specially lighted restaurant that makes everyone look good.
Drinks were delicious but again the 20% overpricing factor was just stabbing us by every round.
I wouldn’t go again
Amazing experience start to finish.
Loved everything about this place from the ambiance to the food. Service was amazing as well. I definitely plan on going back.
