I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and had a very good time. The food is excellent, although I did expect more from the Diamond Roll (perhaps more leek sauce)...something to elevate the flavor of the roll. Personally, it tastes just like a tuna avocado roll, though a very good one. Other than that, service was excellent, ambience and music were great, and the rest of our food was phenomenal.
Food was wonderful. Even the cauliflower and Brussel sprouts
We just ordered small plates, but everything we had was fantastic. The atmosphere was hip and fun and the staff was great.
Carlos is the man
I've never paid this much for sushi. A $250 meal was no better than what I normally pay $50 for. You are obviously only paying for ambiance. I would have expected mouth watering food for the price. I've paid for meals from Michelin star chefs this expensive and it was worth it. This place, not so much. Meh.
The food was great, but unfortunately the service was terrible. Apparently, there was only one person taking orders for the entire restaurant. As you can imagine in a somewhat high-end restaurant, one expects the service to be of a certain standard and so this was particularly disappointing. Better service can be had at a neighbourhood pub! Which is a shame as the food and sake list were outstanding.
Awesome! From service, to food, to atmosphere, we couldn't ask for a better place.
I’ve been here twice. Both times were amazing. Definitely get the cheese dumplings and the fried rice!
Good surprise food was really amazing. Loved the spicy cheese gyosa, tuna tartar. The shrimps were unreal. Our server was a really nice lady but place got to busy and she was not able to serve everyone
Staff was amazingly catering to dietary restrictions. They went above and beyond. Great place and well made drinks.
Excelente servicio. La comida deliciosa. Los tacos de salmon increíbles!
Reserved a table for a large party. We waited for 45 minutes to be seated, despite having a confirmed reservation well in advance. We were served appetizers fairly promptly, but main courses took an additional hour to prepare. The chef himself came out to apologize to our table, as most of the hot food we had ordered arrived cold. While the food and presentation was superb, the service was severely lacking, especially at this price point.
Still my FAV place !
The food was great. However, the service was a bit atrocious.
Megu was amazing about 10 years ago, now - the polar opposite. Literally only had one special an left. It was so fishy, flavorless, and disgusting. At $26 why would we continue eating?! There were stains all over the cushions, the bathroom reeked, the staircase down smelled like wet dog, and it looked like a busted 2 star hotel from the 90s, with terrible loud music. DON'T GO
It was amazing. One of our top 10
Follow Josh's recs if you're lucky enough to have him as your server! Truffle uni rice was delicious.
Been here multiple times and always leave with a good taste in my
mouth. Food is delicious and service is one of the best in the city. Ambiance is hip and trendy but no at all pretentious. Our server, Josh was excellent and the manager Jeffrey, frequently checked up on us.
Food was mediocre. No way near close to the level of the meguof in Tribeca
Delicious food. But overpriced.
Lively crowd, good sushi, nice sake selection. However, the service was horrible. Food was served 45 minutes after our orders were taken. Hopefully, management will solve this.
The food was amazing, but the service was so awful.
Such an awesome restaurant. The food and atmosphere were amazing!
I took the trip to Megu to celebrate my birthday with my parents and boyfriend. If you're gluten free as I am, the menu annotates everything that is gluten free! Our waiter Josh really helped make my birthday dinner special! He was very knowledgeable about the different sakes and menu options. Josh also created a really wonderful atmosphere for me to celebrate my birthday in and managed to surprise me with a really delicious dessert that he made sure was gluten free!
This was our first time at Megu. Great restaurant, fresh fish. The stairway at the entrance is beautiful. Our server Josh was the best. We appreciated his recommendations as this was our first time.
Great place for sushi in the city. The ambience was super cool. DJ playing music was a nice touch. Sushi was amazing! Chocolate martini was really good as well! Highly recommend!
I purchased a Pulsd deal and made a reservation at Megu for dinner. The experience was so terrible, my husband and I left before even ordering food. Upon arrival, we found out that they had cleared the entire center of the dining room for a networking event and had a few tables scattered along the sides of the same room for diners with reservations. There were 60+ people standing around, yelling, drinking heavily, and it would have been impossible to enjoy any type of dinner here. The host looked dumbfounded when I asked for a table in another room and made zero effort to provide a comfortable environment.
My wife and I were planning a dinner date night last week, and with a craving for sushi we both wanted to try Megu. We used to live in the Chelsea area, and unfortunately moved before the new Megu location opened. We made a reservation eager to see what all of the hype was about, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with the decision. While the menu is quite extensive with "modern Japanese" as the theme, we stuck with sushi and cocktails. Every roll was delicious, whether we went with a more traditional yellowtail and scallion, or some of their creative rolls like Megu and Dream rolls. Fish was incredibly fresh and the specialty rolls incorporated some cool ingredients like crispy potato, and Asian pear. We each had a couple of cocktails, our favorite was the Tea Ceremony. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in need of a cool date spot; the music, vibe, food and drinks were all spot on! Can't wait to go back!
We like the chef’s sushi combination . They are amazing.!
The food was delicious and the service was great! I will definitely come back to enjoy more sushi and try other food.
I chose megu last night for an important business dinner based on recommendation of a friend. I was thoroughly impressed from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and brought to our table. Ambience was great, with some after work crowd at the bar and a pretty busy night for a Wednesday. Our sever was very attentive and gave us a run through of the megu "highlights" or signature dishes. We ordered mostly based on his direction, and nothing fell short of amazing. The salmon belly tacos were a big hit among our group, and our omakase sushi course was fresh, filling and delicious.
For our entrees the kagero yaki filet came flambeed table side and cooked on hot stones; the show that dish put on was a great way to impress my client!
For drinks we ended up tasting several Japanese whiskies, as they had an extensive list.
Overall I couldn't be more impressed or happy with my decision to bring my guests to megu. I never got to eat at any of the old megu locations, but I can't wait to go back to this one.
The waitress missed a step, waited an hour for sushi, she forgot one of the orders. Said that there was only one chef making them and the restaurant was not busy, maybe 8 tables open out 50 tables available. I know someone forgot our order. Food was good, not the best I’ve ever had.
I just proposed to my fiancé and made reservations for dinner being that this was the first place we met 5 years ago (but different location ) . As soon as we got there their was a man who works there seating people arguing with the host which I thought was very unprofessional right in front of us.
As we sat down and place our order for our favorite appetizer the tuna tar tar left us in disappointment. IT tasted awful. The waitress who took our order said they changed the recipe . We couldn’t eat it that’s how weird it tasted. They gladly took it off the bill and we sent it back.
Lastly, because we had just got engaged I thought maybe they would at least do something for us on the house like a glass of champagne or desert ( after all the bill was almost $300) . For such an upscale restaurant that didn’t even happen. I was so shocked.
Overall the experience was not like the other location that closed down. For such a fancy place the food was also a disappointment . Will not be eating here again .
Good food. Not our choice next time.
Megu is an dining experience. You enter through a door on the street but immediately descend down a long staircase to the lower level with pink neon lights. The service was friendly and attentive. Appetizers were very good - our party shared the Spicy Cheese Dumplings, Crispy Rock Shrimp and Nori Salmon Belly Tacos and they were all delicious. Kani Salad and Megu Sushi roll were both tasty too. We enjoyed the signature tequila ginger cocktails!! This place is fun and funky with a DJ at the bar. My only complaint is they don't have enough bathrooms for the restaurant (only two for all the patrons)! This restaurant is also a bit expensive.
I like, the best food! And perfect atection! Is beuatiful place, perfect ubication! The cocktails all is good! Thanks for everything!
Friendly waitress, food was excellent, a little to dark in the restaurant, one toilet was broken, no sushi sticks!!!! How come - no sushi sticks in a Japanese restaurant? Why didn’t you just went up in the street and bought some??? Drinks, which I have been drinking before, wasn’t good at all.
When we have paid, the waitress confront us, because we didn’t gave him enough tips. We explained them why and they seem to understand us.
Please - we have been at the old Megu at st. Thomas st. It was top class. I am sorry to say - the new Megu isn’t closed to the old Megu level.
Never have I had so poor service, not anywhere. Food was good, but with these prices I would have expected a bit more. Wouldnt visit this place again, nothing good to say.
To be expected for a NYC sushi restaurant. Food was decent, but portions weren’t very large and it was very expensive. They were also out of Edamame. What kind of Japanese restaurant runs out of Edamame?!?
