Medium Rare - Bethesda
My rating is lowest for the food. I didn't really like the sauce accompanying the steak-frites. It was bordering on the bitter. I oculd not find the hearty, rich sauce which a steak-frites deserves. Maybe I am spoilt, because the last time I really enjoyed a steak-frites was at Le Relais de l'Entrecote in Paris. Also, the meat cut at Medium Rare was by no means sensational. The fries were the best. For the money I spent there, I would happily double it up and go to Chima.
I absolutely adored the meal. What a neat concept. Everything tasted exceptional with tons of flavor. The only comment would be the lack of a sweet rose wine to compliment the meal.
Nice outdoor patio and excellent value if you're in the mood for steak
Great meal as always and excellent service. Nick was great
No frills but feels like a nice night out. Quick, easy, and delicious. Always recommend as long as everyone eats red meat!
That was probably one of the worst dining experiences of my life!
So consistent and delicious. You know exactly what you are going to get so the experience is simple and totally relaxing. Love this restaurant.
Fantastic! The food is very consistent every time we visit and great value.
Great food and great value. Consistent and solid.
Second time to Medium Rare and looking forward to going back. Great value. Want an evening out where you have to make little to no choices? This is the perfect place for a great pre-fixed steak dinner. Really the only choice is how do you want it cooked, but the name is my go to option. This restaurant will not disappoint.
My boyfriend and I went to Medium Rare on a Saturday at 11, so we made reservations. To our surprise, it was almost empty inside and the reservations were unnecessary. It could have been because it was the hottest day of the summer (100 degrees), but I was surprised. It was quiet and we could chat without yelling over the noise. Plus, we got all the attention we required. The bottomless mimosas truly had no bottom because our server didn’t have anyone else to focus his attention on. The ambience was kind of weird given its quiet nature, but we still had fun. The food was pretty good too! The eggs were some of the best over ever had. The steak was a bit chewy for my taste, but not enough that I didn’t enjoy myself.
Food and service were good. They used to allow people to write on the brick walls in the restaurant but don’t allow this anymore...people started writing inappropriate comments. But my kids are 2 & 5 and they wouldn’t allow them to write on the walls. What could they have possibly written that was inappropriate??? Apparently none of the servers there have kids. Ridiculous.
Twas a good evening. Good service and value. Food came out pretty fast.
We had a great time and our server was super attentive, awesome, upbeat! We had 11 people at our table and five of them were kids. He was excellent!
With a reservation we were put at the worst table possible..table right before the bathroom with a 5 to chair in the traffic walkway. We asked to move. Sat at new table and noticed a spider in my water glass. It happens, but second turnoff for a birthday evening. Bread and salad excellent! Steak was very good but a few of us had some inedible pieces because of fat. Fries were good as always. Size of wine pour seemed small. Will go back but not right away.
This was our first visit to Medium Rare and we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is somewhat Stark and the drink menu is rather limited but of decent quality. The Steak and Frites are excellent!!
Our server Erica made our dining experience even better. It was my first time at this restaurant. The food was very good and I was surprised to learn about the second helpings. My three 20-something year old boys really loved it. We had a great weather night and sat outside.
Consistent quality and service, delicious food and pleasant staff
Every course is delicious. Love that you don't even have to look at the menu. Salad, steak and fries - all yummy. Love this place.
Loved the food. Decaf came Luke warm and took awhile for new pot but didn’t charge us which was nice. A bit load for older adults.
It pains me to write a less than stellar review for one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Without getting into petty details, let's just say that the Bethesda location has "gone down hill" in the past year or so. If the Cleveland Park location took reservations, we would head there every time. Step it up, Bethesda location! You've got such amazing potential.
1st time, we will go back
There is nothing wrong with this formulaic, good value restaurant except it feels as if you are on a marathon run. Everything is so fast, timed to the last second — exactly 10 minutes after your steak arrives you will get more. Chew fast!!
The secret sauce has a cheesy taste - my granddaughter said Mac and cheese. Steak Better without the sauce the second time around, though it was peppery.
Would not be a return choice.
Justin our server was great! When you want a little bit of Paris, go to Medium Rare, for steak frites!!
And the hot fudge sundae is awesome!
Everything was awesome! We’ve always liked this restaurant but it was even better, we had two vegetarians in our large party and the portobello mushroom option was spectacular. And the sparklers with the desert made everything so festive. It may now be our go-to for birthdays!
Very nice place to dine!
Fantastic service, great place to go with family and friends.
I’ve heard so much about Medium Rare and finally tried it a few days ago. It did not disappoint. Started with a lemon drop martini, great way to kick off a holiday weekend. The toasty bread was perfection. The salad with Dijon vinaigrette was a teeny bit soggy but still tasty. And the star of the show was the delectable steak and crispy shoestring fries. The steak was done to perfection (medium rare—DUH!), and so tender I could literally cut it with a fork. Too full for dessert but might try to save room next time. Overall, completely satisfied and will definitely return!
Great food and service!
I went here with my husband and daughter and we had a great time. Everything was delicious. There was more food the. We could eat and we were offered a to go box with a side of the steak sauce. The price was fixed and very reasonable.
Medium Rare is a fun concept. The food is delicious and the service is always great. The price of the beer and wine seems a little high to me. The desserts are a home run- Never disappoints.
We were visiting from North Carolina for a birthday celebration, and we had a lot of fun at Medium Rare in Bethesda. The food was pretty good, and the atmosphere was casual and trendy. I found the restaurant because a lot of folks compared the menu to "Le Steak," a classic long-gone Georgetown favorite, but don't try comparing them - it's a completely different experience! There are no fancy table cloths, and the food is not prepared the same way, but just because it's different doesn't mean it isn't good, by any means! The only thing I would compare is that the menu is similar, and the prix fixe is the same price Le Steak was charging 25 years ago (plus you get seconds - how often does that happen?!) The server was always there exactly when he needed to be without hovering, and (just for the sake of mentioning it), we all found parking spaces right out front on a Sunday night! A little noisy, but not so much that we couldn't hear each other easily while we were visiting, and the fireworks display on the birthday dessert was a nice touch. I'll definitely consider it again next time I'm in town!
The service was great. The food was great. Loved the experience. Will go back over and over.
Amazing experience for a birthday. Staff is so kind!
We chose Medium Rare Bethesda for a work celebration and were not disappointed. The service and value were phenomenal. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely return.
The wait staff was friendly and the side salad, great. But my steak was too tough to even cut. I waited for our server for 15 minutes, but finally told another that my meal was inedible. He said he’d tell our server. 20 minutes later, ours appeared. Granted, it was very busy, but there was no offer to do anything more than replace my food. Unfortunately, my 90-year old guest had finished eating 15 minutes prior, and wanted dessert. There was no offer to take my steak off of our bill or even comp a dessert. Although the price was right, it was of no value to me; I had to go home and fix myself dinner :(
A few years ago I used to going to the one in DC, the beef were always tender and the fries were fresh and crispy, and they also fill the plate for couple rounds.
This time, the beef was chewy, the fries were semi crispy.
Not impressive. They only served one time.
We were seated within minutes of our reservation time, the server did a great job explaining how the restaurant operates and making sure we knew what we would be getting. The location is a bit cramped so there is no real “waiting area,” which was the only drawback as we arrived about 20 minutes early and did not have a lot of options to sit and wait for our table.
Fries too salty. Bread was too hard. We probably got a bad batch. The first tim3 we wempnt everything was good.
Unique dining experience, friendly but limited menu. Staff was very helpful . The Pommes de Frites were great, almost addictive for french fries. Steak was good Salad was very fresh.
