Medium Rare - Arlington
The Steak Benedict was a favorite at the table.
It was our first time there and we were very disappointed. Positives--1. We had a reservation, got there early and was seated immediately. 2. Salad and bread were served quickly and were good. After that, the night went downhill. Negatives--1. Took forever to get our meals. 2. Steak was a small portion and of a lower quality. 3. We noticed other tables were getting seconds so waited. And waited. And waited. Someone came to clear our table at which point we ask if more was going to be served. They apologized and a second, much smaller, serving came to ther table. 4. Decided against dessert after sitting for an hour and half with minimal sightings of our waitperson. (We did have another waitstaff from another table fill our drink glasses twice)
In summary, we'd go to a steak restaurant with better cuts of meats and multiple offerings for ther same price. A total waste of time and $$$ .
Our visit to Medium Rare is always pleasant and fun. Such a simple concept that is expertly executed. We are never disappointed with the food quality. Although the cocktails are a bit on the mean side in terms of a pour.
A simple menu that you just can’t go wrong with. Great steak!
My wife and I have been coming here for some time. As always, the food and service were outstanding!! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Always delicious food—a steal given the prix-fix. The special sauce is delicious, the fries are the right price and the salad is very tasty. Will go again to try the deserts
Had a great time with a group of 10. Our guests had never been here before and greatly enjoyed the new restaurant. It was also easy to find on street parking at 530 near Medium Rare.
Can’t say enough good things about Medium Rare Arlington! This is our go to place to celebrate special
Food is consistently delicious! Service is amazing, attentive without being overbearing.
Great steak frites
This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a restaurant in my 7 years of living in DC. The restaurant makes one. dish. and they can’t get it right. Despite ordering medium and medium rare, all of our steaks came out beyond raw, like purple raw. The server actually even told us they were all cooked the same, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the entire concept of this restaurant. We sent them back and when they came out they were still rare at most. They brought my mom’s steak out with sauce on top when she requested it on the side, and on and on. The manager came over and said he would send us a gift card in the mail, but no one ever offered to take anything off the bill, and to date we’ve received nothing.
At the end, our waitress said she didn’t bring the check over because the manager was taking care of it, but then we got the check and NOTHING was taken off, so it took us forever to get our check for what reason I’m not sure. I’ve been to the Cleveland Park and Capitol Hill locations for years and always had a good experience. I had family visiting from out of town which made it all the more embarrassing how much I had been talking up this restaurant. Really disappointing and I don’t think it’s a one-time thing at this location. They really don’t understand what rare, medium rare, medium means, and it’s become more of an assembly line than anything.
Amazing value for money. A set menu which comes with a house salad, high quality steak with fries, done well, and served twice. Yes you get one initial serving, only to have another round served again from a cast iron skillet. We also had the side order of mushrooms, which were superb as well. We even loved the rustic bread. All this for 23.95? What's not to love?
Food was nothing special, steak was good, very small and thin. Service was slow.
First serving of steak was wonderfully medium rare, tender and tasty- better than the expensive steak house I visited the week before. Second serving (yes: a second serving of steak and yummy shoestring fries is standard) was well done and not nearly as good. One daughter declined seconds and got a to go box. Desserts are yummy. All around great value, nice but not stuffy. The evening that we visited the service was less efficient than usual. Glad they are taking reservations now- used to be a long wait.
DELICIOUS!!! Casual steak frites that are the best we've ever had.
Interesting menu. Will go back some day soon.
We were a bit skeptical about the limited menu but everything was very good. I guess when you do one thing, you do it right ! Would definitely go back 😘
This place has gone way downhill. A year ago it had great service and perfectly prepared food for a great price.
Last night, service was extremely slow (even though they have just one item on the menu). The steak was not the right temp, they never came back with the sauce, we aske specifically for a birthday candle on the dessert (right when we ordered the dessert!!) and they forgot. And to top it all off, they used to have several great dessert options. Last night, they only had ice cream left.
Sad to say I will never go back.
Going away party
Staff was pleasant and courteous. Food service was very slow. Heard one mention they were experiencing short staff issues. Our second dish of steak and potatoes, beef was overcooked, some being well done. We had ordered medium rare and medium. We didn’t say anything as the struggles appeared to be in the kitchen and we overall enjoyed our meal.
Fries were good as well as the bread and salad. Took awhile to get each of the items we ordered except desert came quickly. We also enjoyed a bottle of Malbec that was very nice.
We certainly will come back to visit your restaurant as we enjoyed your food and atmosphere. I hope whatever issues were going on that delayed food to the tables improves.
Good service and the food was amazing
The salad is fine but they really do need a vegetable beyond just the mushroom.
Steak was very dry, service was not great at all.
Great time, enjoyed the food and wine and the ambiance was relaxing. We will be back!!
The service was bad and the food is not the same as before.
Serves only one choice on the menu. Okay, for casual dining. Drinks very expensive.
Recommend for meat eaters only. I was surprised to see how family friendly it was. Several toddlers/babies in high chairs . . . Very friendly servers & greeters. But a bit of an assembly line vibe.
Only dinner is served.
Most crazy thing to me is that they have a "full bar" for mixed drinks, but NO RUM of any type! They are big on Bourbons & Whiskeys & Rye etc. & I think they had gin & vodka. But no rum. Why on earth not? The wines were pricey, but good quality. I think only 4 reds & 4 whites as options. One in our party liked the black coffee & another enjoyed the fall special of hot apple cider (which can be spiked if one wishes).
The whole experience is limited, but skillfully targeted to carnivores & people who do not need variety. Literally they serve one thing & at least they are honest enough to say so in their marketing. However, their online prices were out of date by $5.
The salad starter is simple: ordinary but tasty greenery with 3-4 delicious halves of grape tomatoes & delectable, non-overpowering dressing (secret recipe - but hints of honey mustard vinagret (sp?). Ground pepper only option. No sprinkling of cheese available. Next the steak frites, cooked to order & thinly sliced. Expect the fries to be a little on the soggy side, since they are next to the meat & gravy (What they call a secret sauce). Amusingly, the veggie option matched thelook & presentation of the meat, but of thin grilled portobello mushroom slices. Unfortunately the tomato & green pepper salsa-like topping was too picante & overpowering. Would've been better to have served the same nicely flavored secret sauce gravy that comes with the steak.
At least 5-6 dessert options, for a reasonable additional cost to the pre-fix menu -- $7-10. Expect about $25 for the food & additional charges for drinks (alcoholic or not). Good value for what you get.
Everything was perfect including my Cosmo, the salad, fries, mushrooms and sauce with it, the bread and butter, and the steak and secret sauce. I wish the steak had been more tender but it was good enough that I will return often.
As usual, a great meal!
With one main dish as the menu, mediocre wine and limited bar options I will not return.
Always a great place to go! Service is friendly, food is consistently good.
Medium Rare is a great place for steak and frites. It is basically their signature menu item and it is well worth the trip. Service was excellent as well as the food.
We did not expect so many children dining.
This is a great place!
Double charged my card and my partners.
We were hoping to find our new go to steak house following the closure of Ray's the Steak. Not to be. Medium Rare was good for what it is and quite affordable. Unfortunately, with only 1 steak and no vegetable options, it will not be getting me back as a regular.
Great food and good price. My husband and I always enjoy coming here.
The food at Medium Rare never disappoints! We’ve been to this location twice and the service is always fantastic. Save a bit of room for the carrot cake!
Bad food. Oblivious service. Manger with nasty attitude.
There was nothing about this dining experience that I liked.
Food, service, venue, wine, and value for the fixed menu made for a special evening. Do a first date there. Well worth it!
