Medium Rare - Arlington
There are only a carefully selected wines, spirits, and draft beer choices. We offer an off-menu vegetarian option. Yes, we do serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday with a great prix fixe including "The Best French Toast in DC", Steak and Eggs, Eggs Benedict and bottomless bloody Marys, mimosas and screwdrivers.
Great time. Staff helped celebrate an engagement with champagne and special desserts
Staff was courteous. They tried to seat us in noisy area which is not good for a person w hearing aids. The restaurant amplifies diners conversations so no table was good for us. We decided to sit at bar which was a great experience. The bartender took our order and was very attentive. There is one dinner served, basic steak, fries, salad and bread for $20.50. The cut of steak was salty so we assumed it was tenderized and it was served w a gravy and pre sliced. Seconds were offered. Meal was very tasty and a good value for diners who want a value steak dinner. With $12 glass of wine (overpriced) and $6 cup of coffee our meal came to $100 with tip. More than expected for $20 steak dinner.
What kind of steakhouse runs out of steaks? Medium Rare does. On Father's Day, we were told they were running low on steaks and could only give us one serving instead of the usual two servings. They reduced the price by $5, but that is ridiculous when you only have one menu item. This was just the beginning of poor service. Never filled water glasses and poured sediment into wine glasses and told us "that's how it's supposed to be." Food was fine but poor service and lack of food inventory was a huge turnoff.
I do not recommend going for a holiday/special occasion. We went to celebrate Father’s Day and expected the usual service and value. They did not have enough food for the day so the portions were cut in half with only a $5 discount. Usually there are two full serving plates of steak. How is a plate full of steak just worth $5?? We were very disappointed and will not be going back for a special occasion. We had company from out of town and were hoping to show them a nice meal. It was a very big let down and horrible value for our highly anticipated Father’s Day dinner.
Second time to MR but first time to this location. Good food; not as good as I remembered from the DC location but nothing to prevent us from returning. Quick seating and attentive servers - an overall enjoyable experience.
Came for Father's Day Brunch. Excellent Sevice. Brunch options were very nice. Flavorful.
Good food and service. The restaurant got busy and the service slowed down. I appreciate the idea of doing one meal really well!
Service was ridiculously slow but they were all very friendly
The pre-fix menu is a great value itself as salad, steak and frites and rustic bread, they each taste so good. Whenever I crave for steak, I come to Medium Rare. The sauce for the steak is very tasty as well. Definitely recommend the restaurant for steak frites lovers!! Plus each time we receive friendly and wonderful service. What else could one ask for?
Drinks are limited and a little on the expensive side. Salad and bread were top-notch. Steak and frites were too salty for our taste, even without the heavy sauce. Dessert (carrot cake) was large enough for the table (4 of us) but average tasting.
We were very early for our reservation, and they were able to seat us right away. Our server was great, made sure everything was right, and was well-balanced in her attentiveness (if this makes sense!). Everyone on staff that we interacted with was super. And they even brought us a birthday treat as a surprise. The food was delicious and my mom is now hooked on the secret sauce. We’ll definitely be back :)
The service and food were on point.
We sat outside which is much quieter than sitting inside. Service was a little slow and uneven but the food was fantastic (as always)!
Great concept about limited menu. This was our second time dining here and will continue to return.
Restaurant has great food, great service and a great location near Virginia Square metro.
It's a great fix prixe menu, always great value for the price. It's always hot and tasty, plus you'll get extra portions!
I have been a big fan of Medium Rare - the one at Woodley Park. Just having visited the Arlington location, I was disappointed. The portions were smaller and the service was below average. The food was good but far less than I have experienced at the Woodley Park location. Not sure why.
Food and staff were great. Went for brunch and staff made sure our experiences was top notch
The first thing my wife spoke of was that the place was spacious. Plenty of room and not a bunch of tables pushed together. We were able to be seated earlier than our reservation, which surprised us. Great spot to dine at and the view was awesome. MR is unique in that our food order was written on the paper table covering. When the food came, my wife and I both first spoke of the food looking good. It appealed to our eyes before we even picked up the forks. After, the apple pie and ice cream; NICE. Great location , good vibe, and MR will be placed in our rotation.
Great place. A larger menu selection would be nice. With a larger selection of spirits.
Dinner here is excellent. Brunch items are just so so. Of our group, the best brunch item that was ordered was the steak frites. Medium Rare does steak frites so well, there is not a need to order anything else.
Reservation for two was at 7:15, and wasn't sat until 7:50. On top of that, they were about to seat another couple that came will after us. Noisy, and overall the service was on the slow side. Server was attentive, but the time to get your second helping of steak and a few fries was way too long. It's strong in value, the fries were amazing, and the steak is good. Not great, but good.
Bar service is great! Especially when there was a party of 30+ people -- staff, you earned your money Saturday! Will visit again!
So predictable with its limited menu but it’s very good. Modeled after a Paris restaurant that I went to (they don’t like admitting it) but it’s a recipe that works. Steak frites with salad, a French staple dinner with a great Bordelaise sauce, when u r in the mood it’s great.Carry on, I will be a regular!!!
Great find! Food was excellent and a very nice surprise that they bring out more. Will definitely go again on my next trip to Arlington in 3 weeks.
This was my second trip to Medium Rare while traveling on business. Great food and great service will keep this on my list of restaurants to visit whenever I'm in Arlington!
Great place, great value, highly recommended. One of the best around.
Everything about this restaurant was amazing. The food was cooked perfectly and the wait staff was very kind and attentive.
Love you guys , I’ve come a couple different times with some friends , will be coming back. Steak and fries can’t be beat.
If you are only going to have one entree, then it needs to be perfect. The steak was fine--I'd serve it at home without embarrassment--but it was not enough to hang a whole restaurant on. The bar did not know how to make a French 75 but rather than say so, they swung and missed. The portobello mushroom side, however, was very good. I wouldn't refuse to eat there, but it is surrounded by much better options if you can get a table.
I first discovered Medium Rare when they opened a branch in Virginia Square. Since then, I have eaten there half a dozen times, and it's been great every time. The service is great and most importantly, the steak is awesome!
This was my first visit to Medium Rare and I while I could accept a fixed menu I didn't think the food was very good. The salad was bland and the steak and "secret sauce" didn't taste very good. Based on price and the fact that they only cook steak--should've been much better. Very disappointed...not going back.
If your group likes steak and fries, it is a great place/value. Not strong on service
This was our second time at Medium Rare. The first time we didn't know that they serve the meal in two "portions" so we had them refill at the table and then ended up taking some of it home. This time we told them to box the second portion up at the beginning, which was a mistake. We didn't get the rest to take home until well after we had paid the check, and the portion seemed to be much less then what we would have gotten in the restaurant. I would consider going back, but wouldn't tell them to box the rest in advance.
We love to come here for a casual, inexpensive dinner. The food and service are always good. Keep in mind that the restaurant is a bit on the noisier side and for whatever reason the entire floor feels sticky, which I’ve gotten over.
The service was terrible. We waited 30 min for the salad.
Everything was excellent but it was too loud to have a conversation or hear the server.
Not a fine dining steak. Quick casual steak restaurant. If you are looking for fine dining steak house, please go somewhere else. Also, it is very loud and hard to have a quiet conversation.
Valentine's Day was so much fun here!!! Food is out of this world good and they bring you more of it!!!! I wish they'd explain that since it was our first time and didn't know. I highly recommend this if you enjoy steak!
BTW the table comes with a madlib!
Exceptional food quality for a reasonable price. Ambiance a little too modern for our tastes, but not off putting. Highly recommend.
Great time! Glad I went for my birthday! Had a group of 8. Seated in time. Food was great! Drinks were great!
