Mediterrano Ratings and Reviews
The grilled sardine appetizer was as outstanding as it is an unusual offering. The lamb rack and the grilled Branzino were also excellent. The wine list also stands out. The atmosphere is very comfortable and it is one of the few restaurants inn Ann Arbor where you can actually have a conversation and not worry about the noise level.
We had a wonderful weekday dinner at Mediterrano. Both the food and service were top notch. I had the chicken under a brick and could not stop nibbling long after I was full. My husband had the pasta with spicy sauce snd three meats. The biggest reason we don’t go to this restaurant more we often is the lighting. This is a nice restaurant, good food, nice wines and great service. The price point is appropriate but the lighting makes me feel like I’m eating at Dennys. This is not what I want. It’s even worse when you get a table in the bar area.
Mary Ann our server was GREAT. Took very good care of us. Had a great table location for conversation. Food was excellent. Yummy bread. Octopus appetizer was very tasty. There was quite a difference in serving sizes for both the apps and entrees. Made some of us feel a little under-served. Big plate of lamb and a pretty small brick chicken.... 3 stuffed dates and this big mound of mussels. A pleasant evening all together. I'll be back.
My wife and I went to Mediterrano on a football Saturday and it was pleasantly not packed.
The beer & especially wine selections were great. We went with small plates that were actually quite large. The Brussel sprouts, calamari and salmon were excellent and filled us up nicely.
Overall great experience, with nice quiet ambiance even on a game day.
We went there for nice weekend dinner. Took 20 minutes to get the wine we ordered after we asked for it second time. I should not be too hard in the food as they hit the mark 50%. My husband ordered a pasta he has had before and he said it was as good as they have ever made it. I ordered the special, Greckian pork chop. It was terrible! I should have sent it back it was that bad. Tough as leather , over cooked. The veggies I found way too sweet. And the apargus was big, thick stocks that there tough. Of course the waitress, as always the way, asked, "how is everything tasting" before I even had a chance to taste it! I was so unhappy. Service was slow. I should have said something before we left but was just ready to leave. She should have known when she took my plate, I ate nothing! It was the special for crying out loud, you are supposed to get that right
we have dined here many times and are never disappointed. tonight's entries of roasted brussels sprouts, keftedes on pasta and scottish salmon all excellent. The barkeep got the Stoli martini just right and the wine selection more than satisfied even the peskiest of mother-in-laws, if you get my drift. We always enjoy their fresh bread, potato-based spread and olive oil to begin the meal. the cream of broccoli simply yummy. If only we had left room for dessert; these are usually great and after dinner coffee worth the wait.
We will return soon.
I feel like Mediterrano overall gets a mixed review (so don't miss the BUT). The decor is not very good at all, it is dated, the layout is not good, it's not cozy. The service quality was not very good when we went, either, polite and prompt but not foodies at all. The food is better than the decor or service, however. So we had bacon wrapped medjool dates, served with some kind of tapenade that was really lovely, this dish was excellent. The octopus was flat, it's cold, braised octopus, it's cooked very tender, and capers add a little flavor, but it just really was too weak in the flavor department. Then for the main course, the pistacchio crusted lamp chops were divine (I had to stop my fiance from trying to order them medium ... definitely medium rare), the mustard and pistachio crust was tangy and they were cooked perfectly. The orzo (I'm sorry, it's not orzo, but something like that) backing the dish was weak on flavor. We also got the brussel sprouts. This is really a better sharing dish (but we shared everything). This was lovely, too, the brussels themselves were perfectly prepared, it was a little more flavorful than other dishes, but I would have preferred less quantity and more flavor. Overall, the dates and the lamb were solid As, the octopus was a B- and the brussel sprouts probably an A- or B+. I'm not sure I would be thrilled about going back, although I think if we picked better dishes and they all lived up to the lamb and dates, then maybe, also maybe the decor wouldn't feel so bad if it hadn't been so early (we ate a really early dinner, because we came in from GR and were headed downtown to see a play).
The ambiance is really great for a date, and the food is delicious. High quality, fresh ingredients. The portions are very large. We started with the Caesar salad and the warm pear salad, both of which were crisp, fresh and very tasty. Then we had the paella and the chicken mediterrano, and they were both fantastic. The service was great. Staff understood the menu and were very attentive. Water glasses never empty. Highly recommend!
We have been going to Mediterrano for YEARS and have always loved it. This visit was SO disappointing, I had to write about it. We wanted to take out-of-town friends somewhere they hadn't dined, so thought Mediterrano would be a good option. Not so much... The food -- the date appetizer was to die for and the salads were as good as always. My husband loved his scallops and my friend liked the butternut squash ravioli, which I also ordered -- and knew it wasn't up to par. I didn't ruin it for her, but mine was disappointingly dry. Our other friend liked his pasta dish. Cocktails were SLOW to come to the table -- we could never figure it out whether it was our waiter or the bar/kitchen because everything was slow. And, after waiting 20 min. for our desserts to arrive, we cancelled them. Thus, we will not be returning to Mediterrano for a long while.
With few outdoor dining options in Ann Arbor, Mediterrano has created a cosy patio dining area for the warm summer evenings. Food is always good here with slightly unusual Mediterranean-themed dishes, all high quality and good portion size. Service is good and unhurried.
We had a wonderful evening celebrating a birthday. We put in a special request for a round table and that is exactly what we got! Service was wonderful, one of the guests had left an item behind and I got a call on the way home from the restaurant. Very considerately them.
Mediterrano is a lovely restaurant that I have eaten at three times. I have enjoyed all my meals there, especially the salmon. The mashed potato butter is a little odd to go with the appetizer bread, but it works. My daughter had the chicken fingers, and I was glad to know that it is offered for the less adventurous diner.
