I’ve visited Medicine twice in the last week with two very different experiences, the first being very good on all levels which encouraged me to return with a different friend who had never been, I was raving about it to her but was left embarrassed after the second visit. Our table was booked for 12:30, we were seated and told we had the table for an hour. A table for 4 arrived after us and their order was taken before ours. Our order for food and drinks was taken at 12:50, the drinks arrived at 13:08 and the food arrived at 13:28 leaving us 2 mins to eat our food according to their time schedule, we felt rushed so I wrapped half of my lunch in a serviette and took it home.
We felt the staff were brusque and just ticking boxes, they didn’t really want to be there, had this of been my first experience then I wouldn’t of returned despite the lovely food.
We have been here many times before and usually love it, however yesterday was so disappointing- especially when we were celebrating my friend’s engagement. Table booked for 1.30pm- stood outside waiting for it until 1.50pm. Drinks order took 20-25 minutes to come (with me having to ask twice) with one drink missing and then we were told to vacate our table at 3.30pm ready for the next guests when we hadn’t long finished eating. We were so disappointed when we chose Medicine specially because we previously loved it.
I am a regular customer and It was a disappointing experience this last visit.
We booked the table at 12:15; our food was served at 12:55 and at 13:30 when we were trying to call the waiter to order a dessert, we have been asked to leave because the next customers were waiting for the table…I didn’t even finish to drink the tea…
The only thing I would comment on was the one hour table slot - it felt rushed
Love the ambience and lighting at this diner; first impressions are bright, breezy and professional.
However, imagine my surprise when I was handed a wine glass with a chip in the glass and four whacking chips (not the edible variety) in my bowl. Even more surprising was the waitress’s genuine confusion when I questioned it. She said she would check with the chef? Totally oblivious to the knowledge that dirt and harmful bacterial can collect in cracks or chips. Was not expecting this service here. Was reimbursed at till when asked how was our experience but waitress did not make any suggestions.
We ordered a second drink and it took ages to come. We were aware that we only had 60 mins to order and eat but we had to wait 15 mins for our glass of wine and iced coffee. Halfway through our drinks we were told we needed to leave as they needed our table for the next customers. I could finish my coffee and my husband had to leave his wine. We were not very happy with this, but it wouldn’t put us off visiting as I love the food.
Always have a lovely meal at Medicine
Really good coffee. Tables well spaced out. Very happy with our food too.
absolutely fantastic! all of the staff were so lovely and friendly and the brownie and donut were amazing! we had a wonderful time, thank you all so much for being so kind.
Eating at Medicine is always somewhat frustrating because the menu and food are both excellent, and the coffee is great, but the service is consistently very poor. It’s slow, prone to mistakes and occasionally rude, which is such a disappointment. And unfortunately the cleanliness is terrible, especially the bathrooms, which are always messy and dirty.
Beautiful food and lovely friendly staff. Great atmosphere.
Food great but service was really bad, slow. 3 girls decided to have a chat about their nails when they saw us waiting for our reserved table. Drinks took 20 mins to arrive, milk for one child was warm and sour.
Lovely birthday brunch.
Faultless food but appeared short staffed and had to wait almost an hour for tea and egg on toast. Long queues to pay at end and service staff touched the top of my glass and cup when putting them on the table when I’m about to drink from there.
The food is excellent - imaginative and well-executed. The two front of house members were of staff were obviously short-handed but doing a sterling job given that. The only down-side to Medicine is the loo. There were no hand towels and the loo roll is never put in the holder and the place looks tatty and a bit dirty.
The food was beautiful and served on time.
The space was clean and spacious.
The staff were lovely
Service very slow, waited 25 mins to even be offered a drink. Drinks then came out at same time as food. More staff needed. Food up to usual standard
Very clean and well spaced with very friendly ambience. Super food - good range and some extra twists to the tastes. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Food was delicious and the staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend and return again
Food was delicious, cakes are incredible!! just a perfect little place
This was my second visit. Not quite as pleasant as the first in the sense that I felt the meal wasn’t quite at the standard as the first time. Still good but presentation was less admirable and less in bowl. Table wasn’t cleared before we had dessert or before we left. Would still visit again and try another dish.
Another lovely breakfast
Food always good standard and service always excellent from the staff
Loved our quick bite of lunch and feel it’s vital to support this amazing local business. The staff, menu and service are consistently excellent and good value for money. Keep on doing your thing...your residents love you guys.
Wonderful food. Service was good. Attentive staff.
Booked table ordered coffee and cream scones was told has soon has we sat down we had only 30mins assistant came to take order 10 mins later the coffee came 10mins later still no sign of scones they came 15min later when she served us she said I need this table we said only just received the scones she said I will give u fifteen minutes very poor service won’t b returning service and quality has diminished to what was the normal practice defiantly will not recommend this medicine bakery codsall
Good luck trying to get served. We walked out. Woeful.
Always friendly and welcoming service and amazing food.
Fab food, service excellent, great vibe, very clean.
Excellent experience as always, lovely food, great service
When booked on line was sent confirmation that we had table from 12.30 to 2pm. On arrival was told could only have table for one hour! It took 10 mins to order and food arrived at 12.50, therefore leaving just 40 mins to have meal. We ordered coffee at 13.10 and was approached at 13.20 to be told we needed to leave table at 13.30, we hadn’t even received our drinks at that time. We left without our drinks. Very disappointed, the food is excellent but the service is slow. Normally more than happy to wait but not when they have a stop watch on your table. I’m a regular visitor, once a week for years except when they were shut for lockdown, even went there before it was under this management and was simply known as The Village. Won’t be returning, felt very harassed and rushed. Shame really as food is good.
This was the first time I have been to medicine since its re-furb and prior to the pandemic. I had booked a table through OpenTable, but it wasn’t made clear when making the booking, that they were one hour strict booking slots. When we arrived we were seated at probably the worst table they had created, from which had a view of the bakery prep store and was between the toilets and the sacks of flour one of which burst while we were there. Whilst his location had minimal noise level it also had zero ambience that you wanted to be surrounded by in what is a lively eating environment. Prices were higher than I expected saying that the food is of exceptional quality, had we not been moved out we would happily have had a second or maybe even third drink and a desert but one hour was just not enough time for this. Had I been Informed it was a strict one hour slot I would not have booked or would have booked a second slot as there was nothing stopping you from doing this, which seems ridiculous. Hopefully things will improve when regulations are eased, none of the above will stop me from returning I will just be better informed regarding requesting a table location and an extended timeslot.
The sour dough when toasted was very hard even the knife couldn’t cut it.
There was a sauce on the plate that wasn’t listed in the menu as I would have asked for it without.
The bacon was very delicious and the eggs benedict was the best I’ve ever tasted. 😋😋
We liked the privacy of the booth.
Service was excellent and we will be returning.
Ps. Please put prices on the cakes 🍰
Brilliant service and the food was amazing will definitely visit again.
Best place around. Lovely food. Lovely ambience. Covid careful.
Been here a couple of times before and normally impressed. We were sat for 20 minutes without anyone coming to take a drinks order, despite people who came in after us being served. Coffee took another 20 minutes to come and were barely warm. Food was ok, but not to normal standard (garnishes etc missing that are normally there and food not hot). No cutlery with food. Not sure if they were understaffed or it was just a bad day.
Great food & atmosphere. Staff were very friendly. Would definitely visit again.
Love it! I think it’s improved since maybe a year ago, the staff are so lovely and the food is amazing! Try the Cronut if you go or the matcha loaf, to die for! Will always go back now as it’s one of my fave places, just like the one in New Street (Bham).
I do enjoy the quality of the food but it’s way too overpriced for what it is. Also, there is a member of staff (a tall woman) who every time I’ve been, is so miserable. The service is pretty average but considering where they market themselves in terms of price, should be considerably better. I would go back but would go back more regularly if they fixed their prices and service.
Staff were rude and short. There was not enough staff, we were waiting for napkins etc for a very long time.
Food was delicious as always and staff were very friendly. Little error with our order but the staff were so apologetic and gave us a discount (which wasn’t asked for btw but much appreciated. The atmosphere is lovely and it’s nice and clean.
