Meddlesome Moth Ratings and Reviews
The food was pretty good, we loved the tuna on the stick and the moth balls (I work for Chef April Bloomfield in NYC), roasted chicken was tasty too; and the place was really nice, the service however was just meh... we came in on a not busy at all time and our food took forever! Our server was nowhere to be found...
My friends and I eat out several times a week and we often encounter servers that don't know the menu/food prep, can't offer suggestions based on likes/dislikes, are either overly present or nowhere to be found so, we were VERY impressed by the quality of service here. We arrived for brunch and it was quite busy but the service level didn't reflect how busy it was. Our server (Liz) far exceeded our expectations! In fact all the floor staff made a good impression because we all witnessed them efficiently helping not only guests as you would expect but also each other. The food which is what we really came for and plating was fabulous too! Everything arrived prepared as promised and served as requested (a couple of us asked for this/that on the side and substitutions). Will definitely be back and will be recommending this place to other friends and coworkers! Excellent job Meddlesome Moth!
While we had been acknowledge by the chef, we were left sitting at the table for quite some time before any one came over to greet us and get things started. My friend's chicken was delicious, however, there are few pescatarian / vegetarian options on the menu and they are mediocre at best. The Thai mussels was more like a soup and the mussels were so small I would have been embarrassed to serve them. The broccolini with feta and sun-dried tomatoes was swimming in a butter-ish soup and some of the broccolini was old and had turned brownish. The wines by the glass menu was also something to be desired. With so many excellent choices in Dallas, this would not be my first choice to re-visit this restaurant.
So... the Meddlesome Moth is right in my neighborhood. I've been in a few times and I haven't had a bad meal but I also haven't been blown away. It's a notch above a gastropub but not quite fine dining. I'll go back again because it's convenient but I'd rather something more exciting that's an Uber ride away.
Once you find this hidden treasure you are in for an experience in history and excellent food. Today was a light lunch day so I enjoyed their fresh hummus appetizer. It was more like a salad with fresh and pickled vegetables served with warm pita bread. I had enough to share. Oh, and try their twice brewed ice tea served with a sprig of fresh mint!
I've been through Dallas twice in the past year and ate here on both occasions. You just can't go wrong. Too many beers to choose from but very knowledgeable staff, took two suggestions from Tyler our waiter and they were delicious. Can't wait for my next trip to Dallas.
