The food was fine, but the place was really busy during the dinner hour . Service took about two hours for two people and when we asked for the check it took about half hour to pay it. The people next to us decided not to tip their server, and they were immediately questioned by a maître d’ and made to feel embarrassed for not tipping. Tipping is optional, and they did not feel that they had good service but ended up leaving a tip because they were embarrassed into it. I’ve never seen anything like it.
2E visite à votre restaurant. 1re fois en nov 2016. Nous avions été très enchantés, de là notre désir d'y retourner cette année. Cette fois-ci nous avons été déçus. Musique très forte. Service lent et peu de visites de notre serveur. Nous avons pris le plateau de tartare en entrée: bien aimé le tartare de boeuf et de thon. Pas le saumon. Pas goûteux du tout. En somme, nous n'avons pas été aussi enchantés et nous n'y retournerons plus.
The bar was the best part of the evening! Bartenders are competent and a lot of fun! Shout out to Pierre-Luc and Jessica. The ambiance with the live DJ was awesome but the biggest miss : our steak! Over cooked, chewy and overpriced. I would go back for the cocktails and the raw bar.
The greeting was professional and welcoming, the waiter who took the order was impeccable, the only blemish in the service was the waitress who delivered our food kept mistaking whose plate belonged to whom. The food was scrumptious. For appetizers: I had the crab accras very flavorful! My dinner companion had the chipotle Calamari tender and delicious (I was afraid the chipotle would overpower the Calamari but it didn't it was amazing!) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either dish. I then had the beef tartar perfectly seasoned. My companion had the boeuf onglet, I found it a little too salty for my taste but it was tender. All in all great service, succulent food!
Traveled to Montreal to visit our son, we were greeted warmly and immediately sat at our table. Service was outstanding, attentive and informative. Food was exceptional, the onion soup was superb. Our steaks were perfectly prepared and delicious. We would return without hesitation and enjoy this fine establishment. Highly recommend *.
we arrived on time for our reserved table at 6:45 pm on sat. Nov. 18 .
table wasn't ready. they asked us to wait at the bar. the bar was full.
they could at least offer us a free drink for the inconvenience ( we were 3 person ).
they did not. i bought 3 drinks with tip $ 45.00 , got our table 15 minutes later.
when giving us our table , the girl mention that we had it for 2 hours , there was another service at 20 pm . wow !!!! comes 7:45 pm , we were done and there was lots of table available.
Déçue d’avoir été contacté en fin PM pour avoir une confirmation de réservation et que si je ne rappèlais pas avant 18h, ma réservation était cancellée. Nous avons descendu de Québec, 3 couples, réservation pour 10 personnes... une chance que j’ai pris mon message sur ma boîte vocale. Et lorsque j’ai rappelé pour confirmer, on m’a dit que nous n’avions que deux heures vu que c’etait achalandé. Nous n’avons pas eu de menus suffisants pour commander, nous devions se prêter 2 menus pour 10 personnes... dommage !
Great food, great service but way too loud music, could barely have a conversation with the person next to me, nearly impossible to converse across the table. I’d recommend turning down the DJ. Otherwise we’d recommend this place highly. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly on a busy night of Montreal restaurant week.
L’entree de boudin était succulente mais le plat et le dessert étaient vraiment décevants. L’entree était de niveau gastronomique avec un mélange surprenant et original mais le plat était très ordinaire avec le dessert assez sec. Musique trop bruyante pour un brunch, plus les bébés qui crient partout dans la salle.
After reading reviews of this restaurant that was within walking distance of our hotel, we thought we would give it a try. The place had a nice vibe with a DJ playing energizing music. It happened to be ‘restaurant week’ of some sort so the menu was somewhat limited but not a problem. For $31 you could have an appetizer, entree & dessert. You could also upgrade some items for an additional charge. We chose to upgrade the appetizer but ordered the other 2 from the basic offerings. My spouse ordered the pasta carbonara. It was horrible with chunks of scrabbled eggs and 2 slabs of undercooked bacon. She told the server that it was disgusting and he apologized saying that other customers have had the same response. He went on to say that it was “special”. He did not offer anything in exchange and we didn’t ask since it took quite awhile to get our food. Also, due to the event, we were told when we got there that we could only stay for 2 hours. The steak was good even thought it was over cooked when I ordered med-rare, but tasty. When the bill came, there was a charge of $49 for the steak. We questioned it and the waiter and later the manager said that we upgraded when we absolutely did not. They wouldn’t take off the bad pasta charge nor would they adjust the cost of the steak that we did not order. We were very disappointed that we got overcharged for a something we did not order and had to pay in full for something that was horrible quality.
New owners and menu since the last time I was there. I didn’t like the small print in the menu and found it hard to read with the low lighting. Food was good (no complaints). We were looking forward to the DJ they use to have but there was none. It was a cool touch before, too bad it didn’t continue.
This resto has gone up there in my tastiest meals! The menu is simple and each platter we ordered was beautiful and unique in taste! This whole experience was complete with the amazing dj, i believe his name is Alex, playing old school tunes that just fit perfectly! Bravo to all of team Méchant Boeuf!!!
Thanks to open table we were able to get a seat. We walked into the restaurant off the street and asked if there was a table for two available and the hostess said they were booked solid. As we were leaving I opened the open table app on my phone and there was a table available in 10 minutes, so I booked it, got my confirmations and went back in. I said to the same hostess, I have a reservation now, and she confirmed it and led us to our seat. Thanks Open Table! The food was fantastic, the live DJ music was nice, and our waiter was attentive, as well as the floor manager who came by a few times to ask how we were doing, and if everything was to our liking. It was a very busy night, and some tables were having delays with their food arrival, but we had no issues at all.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mechant Boeuf. Visited on our last night in Montreal, we were staying in Hotel Nelligan so it was really handy to have the restaurant within the hotel! Our waiter was outstanding, service we received was exceptional could not praise him enough!! Cocktails here are very good, similar menu to the rooftop terrace at Nelligan.
Food was lovely we both had burgers and no complaints, big portions which is always good.
