We waited nearly 90 minutes for dinner after ordering . The pasta with my dish was cold. I didn't send it back because we needed to get to the theater. It appears that the restaurant couldn't handle the crowd that came. But worst of all it was our server. She was not attentive; didn't get our requests quickly or correct. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
It's a cozy spot with a limited but decent menu. The food is very good. I don't care for the line up of multiple tables along the partial wall separating the bar from the restaurant- you're on top of your neighbor and one person is stuck looking at a wall. The last internal free standing table is on top of the wait staff service area. I don't like that either.
Food good quality but disliked Caesar salad dressing, was extremely garlicky and extra strong taste of anchovies. Fish and orzo very good, portion average and could have been larger for price. My date enjoyed his salad and burger. I loved my wine. Server forgetful with long waits; could not describe 2 of the dishes we ordered. Had great attitude and spirit, though. Don't know that we would return based on value. For the price we had expected something fancier and more impressionable.
Our party of 4 had dinner on Saturday night at 7pm. Service was poor (slow and inattentive) and the food was OK at best. Can't recommend and won't return.
Mecenat was a place we would go to every few months. Always good and dependable. Not so much anymore based upon our weekend visit. The service was not good at all - bus person picking a napkin off the floor and handing it back to my son, gross. I also scratched my head when they took salad forks off the salad plates and left them for another use when we had a dinner fork sitting in front of us. Then the delivered a well done steak that was ordered medium rare. My daughter ate it because she didn't want to wait for another one to be cooked (the waitress had to come to the table several times between the salad and entree to tell us our entrees would be right up. They were kind enough to remove that item from the bill. Lastly, they completely forgot about a side.
Not sure what's transpired at Mecenat in the past few months, but it's not what it used to be. Keep in mind, this was prime time on a Saturday.
Poor (understaffed and amateur) service and food. French onion soup very disappointing ; tiny crouton with melted cheese like a little island in a sea of soup. Warm winter salad; tiny, unroasted squash. Overheard owner apologizing to numerous customers. Will not be back.
The service was beyond poor, and there was only one other table of people. The waitress had no idea what the soup of the day was. The salad I had was so puny and flavorless, and was $9. My friend had the french onion soup, and it was barely hoy, a tiny plop of cheese on top, totally unimpressed.
A great find for a local restaurant..wish more options on the menu and wine list..I'll definitely go
back and try it again (maybe for lunch) and I'll also tell others about it...
Cute little place. Service was excellent. Food was good. Lotsa wine!
Had an "off" night, for sure. We'll give it another try, but not for a while. The quality was so different from 6 weeks before that we thought there might have been a change in chefs. We asked, but the hostess didn't know.
3rd time here with husband & another couple. Always enjoy the food, ambience, service and casual but nice vibe. Our server, Linda, was warm, knowledgeable and respected us taking our time to order & eat! Enjoy!
This quaint little neighborhood restaurant was heartbreaking for it's wasted potential. Beautiful space and decor, lovely place to sit and dine with live music the night we were there. Food was mediocre at best which is what made it such a sad evening. Both of our dishes were prepared on a tasteless pasta base. The "French onion soup" was either laughable or insulting. It was made with slices of cheese, yes slices of cheese half-melted over a sad amateur effort at French onion soup. One of us had a eggplant entree which was downright tasteless. Amateur server did not help the evening much. I would not recommend this restaurant until big changes made in the kitchen.
I marked ambiance a bit lower due to being at the table right next to the bus station...we kept getting bumped, and heard clattering dishes, and watched bussers scrape plates into the trash. Generally a low-key spot to unwind on Friday night. Servers are friendly, and didn't rush us. Food is generally good, though the fries with the special shrimp appetizer were stone cold
Neighborhood gem. Enjoyed everything I have ordered here.
We've gone to Mecenat for several years. The last two experiences have been less than stellar. The most current was on a Sunday evening. We were seated immediately, as the restaurant was not croweded. The waitress told us they were out of several items that were always on the menu -- so it was not any nightly specials. It tooks us a while to get our bruchetta appetizer as they were out of the crab cakes, and then we waited for our entrees quite a long time. The owner apologized for the delay and did send over two glasses of wine, which was very much appreciated. However, the pork loin was very dry and the salmon had a weird tomato glaze of some type -- the vegetables were barely steemed. So, all in all, we probably would not be back for dinner any time soon.
We went there for $5 hamburger special. The burgers arrived with the wrong toppings - which all cost extra. We sent everything back. The burgers came back a second time overdone, some still had wrong toppings or missing toppings, and the fries were cold.
A really great experience. I regret that it took so long to find such a great restaurant only a few blocks from our home.
Excellent grilled salmon cooked to perfection. Attentive service by Jimmy. Wonderful atmosphere in a charming neighborhood gem.
Excellent food, very good service. Both the pork chop and beef entrees were excellent. My wife also liked the Mahi Mahi.
Overall, a great place. Will definitely be returning.
A fairly limited menu but excellent quality. The mussels are outstanding and the scallops entree is delicious! Extensive wine list. Consistently great staff.
We visited Mecenat to celebrate my Wife's birthday. My wife and her sister chose appetizers as entrees to complement the special soup offered that day. They were disappointed to learn that the flaming brie was not an available appetizer that evening. I had a salad and the shrimp special. Both were excellent. Even though the restaurant was not very crowded, our server seemed to disappear for long periods of time. Ladies enjoyed the wine special. my cocktails were very good. We did announce that we were celebrating a birthday but received no response from Mecenat.
This is our third time here. We love it! Mecenat Bistro has good food in reasonable portion sizes and a great wine list.
We celebrated our wedding rehearsal 5 years ago and thought it would be great to go back and spend our 5 year anniversary. The food and drinks were outstanding and our waitress was even better!
Service was good for being in the bar. I made a reservation and they put us in the bar for dinner on Mother's Day. The dates and bruschetta were delicious. The strawberry salad was also great! Then we had the longest wait for our main meal to come out because I guess they were short in the kitchen. It really put a damper on my Mother's Day because after the VERY LONG wait my fish came out and was burnt. So disappointing!
Server was friendly and efficient even though she was clearly busy
Some of the food was excellent but the chicken sandwich was almost inedible. The chicken breast was well seasoned but dry. It was served on an over toasted bun with nothing on it. It was like eating cardboard dust. The fries that came with it were hot, crisp and flavorful
We did not see one of the items that was listed on the brunch menu
As we live some distance away we probably won't hurry back but the place seemed full with happy locals
We went here for Mother's Day brunch. The atmosphere was very nice, but they were clearly understaffed as we waited unreasonable amounts of time every time we needed our server or ordered anything. The food was fair at best.
I don't usually write a negative review, but I'm so disappointed with a recent experience. We've been going to Mecenat Bistro for a year now, since moving to the area. We met the owner early on and several times when we've returned, we have reached out to the owner, saying hello, etc. He has never once greeted us or thanked us for coming to his restaurant, even when we've brought new friends (customers) with us. Most recently, we ordered the chef's penne pasta with grilled chicken special. The pasta and spicy sauce were delicious but the chicken was tough and chewy. I couldn't eat it. We calmly, quietly told our waitress (when she finally checked on us). After several minutes and odd looks from other staff and the owner, no apologies were made and there was a mere $5 reduction on bill. Wow, no apology, no offer of another entree, just here's your bill. We will not go back nor will we ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. We'll take our business and our money to restaurants where customers are appreciated and treated like guests.
Waitress was quirky and a bit sloppy and silly for our taste. Shrimp appetizer was the best of our experience.
We went especially for the Fri night music and were not disappointed.
We went there the first time for Easter Brunch and it was absolutely awesome. Food was incredible and the atmosphere was awesome. Service was great. Will definitely go back to this place again.
Always enjoy the dining experience. Usually start with an appetizer of calamari or bruschetta, a salad and an entree. Wine list is extensive and the staff is always able to recommend a great selection.
Enjoyed the pre-fixed menu for Valentine's Day with the wine pairings. Roses for the ladies were a nice touch too!
I love this place and would come back this place is so good and the food is even better the staff was great I can't say anything bad I just can't and we got roses I think from the owner or manager what a lovely guy .... I love this place I wish o I new sooner about this place
My wife and I went there for Valentine's Day ( actually the day before) and had a lovely dinner. Menu is not extensive, what we
Ordered was well prepared and very tasty. Greeted by the owner after we were seated and my wife was offered a fresh rose, which was given to me to give to her !! Very nice touch!!!
It got very busy towards the end of our meal, but you could still converse at a normal tone !
A very nice place for dinner and we will be back!!
For the extreme prices this restaurant charges, the portions were very small and food was very bland tasting. My cod was no show stopper, very bland, nothing special. My sister had some kind of fish that began with an "e". I couldn't believe how small the portions were, no garnish, no pizzazz. It looked like three little medallions of food on a huge plate and for $25!!. A tiny medallion of fish, a tablespoon of carrots and a tablespoon of fingerling potatoes! Very disappointing.
Nice bar/ restaraunt. Food was well prepared and presented. Noise level was too high for a romantic date, but a nice casual find. We'll be back.
Very pleased! Great wine, food, service and family get- together !
Food was overpriced and incredibly bland
Sat at the bar to have a drink and an appetizer. Service was excellent, bartender was very attentive. Shared an appetizer of mushroom and blue cheese bruschetta and it was wonderful. Had a light dinner and everything was great. A nice quiet place to go in the neighborhood. Also, great during the nice weather to sit outside.
