Meauxbar Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Meauxbar is simply fabulous! The atmosphere is funky, low lighting, casual. Very much an artistic space with a nod too a bygone era of artists and writers (not sure why it feels this way to me).
Small, with a long bar and, apparently, even smaller kitchen; it amazes me how well organized and successful the staff is. The chef creates impeccable options and you simply can’t go wrong.
I, personally, love the duck fat popcorn and the Gulf fish Amandine.
Meauxbar is easily accessible if you are in the quarter, as it is on Rampart, across from Louis Armstrong Park. It is worth the few blocks walk to avoid the touristy spots and experience a local favorite!
Server was attentive but we felt rushed and it was not busy. Pork belly app was good, chicken pate was ok and had WAY too much pate in relation to bread. Asked for more bread, it was clearly not received well by the kitchen and was burnt on one side and not toasted on the other. Flank steak entree was cold, we did mention it and they comped it. Appreciate that but we did eat it because we were hungry bland offered to pay for it since we did eat it. Almondine was good but way too much with too many almonds with nutty popcorn rice and a nutty flavored fish (sheepshead). It was cooked correctly as far as the fish. At the end the dishes really lacked a lot of finesse and even though we live in the neighborhood we will think twice e before going again. It was clear there was a change in management both FOH and BOH.
Meauxbar has been a staple for me when I go to events in the quarter. This visit reminded me of my earlier visits, which were very good. With the exception of some challenges in previous times, this is a great place in the quarter. The food is consistently good and the service is equally as nice. Thanks for returning to be the place that I've enjoyed over the past visits.
Beautiful atmosphere and creative dishes. We were impressed with the food. We ordered three small plates and shared one entree. (We spent $100 after tip). We did not leave totally full which was disappointing. Maybe we were just extra hungry but I feel like if two people spend $100 on a meal they should leave full. Other than that it was romantic, creative and wonderful service!
I have eaten here many times. However, this past experience was the best yet! the food was truly outstanding. They appear to have made a few tweaks to items that are typically on the menu and everything was outstanding. Just wishing they would put pan roast back on the menu.
The food was amazing, the interior design delightful, and our waiter, Melissa very accommodating and friendly. This is our second time there and although since our last visit they have changed owners, they have not missed a beat. We shall return on our next visit to NOLA.
The food was pretty good however our sever was very rude, he acted as if we were bothering him if we asked questions and when asked if we could order appetizers he told us “no, I’ll take your entire order”. He was very short, rude and ruined our dining experience.
We've been dining here regularly since it opened and were the very first customers when it reopened a few years ago. It's our nearest restaurant and we consider ourselves lucky to have a place around the corner which is very good, just like in Paris or New York. It can be noisy but that means locals as often as not. We go early and they turn the music down politely until we leave, probably. We'll be back regularly.
I started out with pumpkin soup that was lukewarm. My husband had the escargot with wild mushrooms, excellent! Husband had hanger steak with parmigiana frites, again excellent. I had their short rib grilled cheese sandwich. Very tasty , very filling, I couldn’t eat it all! It is in a very unique part of town, but the Metro Police were out at every street corner. Would go back again!
We were so impressed! The duck fat popcorn, pork belly, gulf fish Amandine and chicken were all off the charts! Service was excellent. We cancelled reservations at one of our favorite restaurants to book here for out of town guests immediately after leaving. This is a must! The atmosphere is totally casual, but, funky cool; marrying sophistication with a hole-in-the-wall feel seamlessly! Good vibes abound here. Nice enough for any important date, but without the unnecessary formality so many fine restaurants maintain. Meauxbar Bewitches!
