Meauxbar Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We were so impressed! The duck fat popcorn, pork belly, gulf fish Amandine and chicken were all off the charts! Service was excellent. We cancelled reservations at one of our favorite restaurants to book here for out of town guests immediately after leaving. This is a must! The atmosphere is totally casual, but, funky cool; marrying sophistication with a hole-in-the-wall feel seamlessly! Good vibes abound here. Nice enough for any important date, but without the unnecessary formality so many fine restaurants maintain. Meauxbar Bewitches!
Amazing. The chef is extraordinary and I wish I could cook half as good as he can. Food was amazing, service was impeccable, and ambience was perfect. A little hole in the wall filled with locals and tourists - amazing all around and I will definitely recommend to my friends!
Being a great late night place, we made an 11:15 pm reservation for after the opera on the Friday night Hurricane Nate was scheduled for late Saturday. When we arrived we were the only ones there, apparently others having eaten earlier (they said they had a big pre-opera crowd) or being scared away from a late night too near to Nate's arrival. We were greeted graciously, had wonderful service and excellent food (and a really good wine). Needless to say we were served quickly but were not hurried and enjoyed a delightful hour or so there. Thank you, Meaux Bar for being a great New Orleans eatery.
The food and service were excellent. The noise in this small restaurant was excruciating. I love the food and service but will not go back unless they can do something about the noise. It is the loudest I've ever heard anywhere. We had to lean in and talk very loudly at a small table for two just to barely hear each other.
My fiancé and I went there before our engagement party and couldn't have asked for a better experience. They greeted us at our table with a complimentary glass of cava as a congrats on our engagement. The server was extremely knowledgable. He recommended the crab and corn gnocchi as an appetizer and it was to DIE for. Some of the best I've ever eaten. The crab pieces were large and decadent, covered in this corn-type bisque that was made from the stalks of the corn. My fiancé had the flank steak and I had the duck. Both perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. We were extremely pleased with all of our choices and can't wait to go back!
We felt a little rushed, and although our server was personable and great, our drinks arrived after our appetizer. The timing was simply off & for the price point, that should be managed better. At no time did we express that we needed to hurry - the food just came out too quickly. Main dish dropped literally the moment we finished our app.
The restaurant has a great feel to it, love the decor and lighting. The service was absolutely perfect and our waiter had some excellent recommendations. We started with the burrata appetizer which was generous and delicious. We also had the beet salad, loved the creativity of the cashews in the dish. For our entree's we had the fish almondine and the grilled cheese with braised beef, both dishes were amazing. Meauxbar is definitely going to be added to our restaurant rotation when we're visiting New Orleans. Highly recommend it!
A small intimate bistro at the edge of the French Quarter across the street from Louis Armstrong Park. Reservations recommended, as the place is on the small side. We showed up with 3 people when the reservation was made for 2, so we had to wait an extra 45 minutes (not the restaurant's fault). The host directed us to a nearby bar for drinks and called us when the table was ready. Excellent food and service. The wine list is thoughtful but not extensive, and there aren't any real "bargains." Expect to pay $50 or more. Though not inexpensive, this is a delightful restaurant. Highly recommended.
We were greeted immediately by the host and seated in the window which made for great people watching. The host asked if we wanted ice or bottled water and our water arrived immediately. Our server arrived moments later, presented the menu, asked if we had any question and took our cocktail order. All of this happened within three minutes. Drinks were served quickly and we then had questions about the brunch menu. Our server answered and we ordered peach crepes, chicken and waffles, side of their house-made bacon and sausage and the French onion grilled cheese sandwich. They have their take on yaka-mein and it would knock a hangover. The Bloody Mary was light and delightful. The peach crepes were not overly sweet and delicious. They did a different take on chicken and waffle using crispy chicken skins and chicken gravy- yum! The French onion sandwich was filled with beef, cheese and grilled with butter with a side salad to balance the heaviness of the sandwich. The service was impeccable. Go and check it out yourself, you will not be dissatisfied. I'm going back soon.
We were in NOLA for a business conference and wanted to eat somewhere out of the convention district. This was a cozy, rustic restaurant that was fairly quiet on a Tuesday evening. Our cocktails were top notch and the food was superb; everything was good.
We shared a yummy mixed-appetizer plate to share that was made up of several different kinds of spreads, pates and cheeses. We all had different cocktails from the menu and everyone was happy with their drinks. For entrees, we had the grilled cheese, hanger steak w/ frites and then the chicken. All very good. Good portions; plenty of food to fill-up, but not overwhelming.
I've always liked Meauxbar and would have given higher rating except for a single bad experience on a VERY hot N.O. night. I fully understand that the AC can go out any time, anywhere. But it was miserably hot when we arrived which means the maitre d' should have called in advance to let us know (it's a small place and not tooo many calls to make). Alternately, management should have made at least a modest gesture like some small comp. But we did not get even an apology. My shirt was wet by the time I left. I will wait until winter to go back to this otherwise great restaurant.
Visiting NOLA, I went to Meauxbar Bistro with a friend. We had an AMAZING TIME! The food was delicious and perfectly prepared, the staff super nice and friendly without being too intrusive. The wine list can be a little pricey but considering all the gem it holds, totally worth it.
Thank you MEAUXBAR Bistot!
The combination of ingredients and the dishes offered on the menu are a little different. It made ordering a little difficult because we didn't know what to expect. As it turns out, all these flavors work well together. Everything was fantastic! The Braised Pork was very different, especially for NOLA. It was really amazing. My Hanger Steak was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. This Provençal Life dessert with the Fennel mouse was so different and absolutely amazing.
