Meat On Ocean is a meat-centric, modern steakhouse in Santa Monica that offers both a sense of adventure and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Beyond the offerings of a world-class steakhouse, Meat On Ocean features an artisanal charcuterie bar, an exhibition dry-aging room and a variety of prime beef – from dry-aged domestic cuts to Japanese A-5. We went to Meat on the ocean for my boyfriend’s birthday this week and it was a terrible night. Full explanation below but I just want to say we will never be attending this establishment again. When you go to fine dining you pay not only for the high-level food but also the service and experience along with it. Meat failed this on every level this tuesday and it ended up being a frustrating night on what should have been a celebration of a birthday. I hope in the future when a Customer of your establishment puts down it’s their birthday the meat staff etc pays more attention to their service and food. There are thousands of places people can spend a birthday celebration at in Los Angeles. Our experience this tuesday was unacceptable and completely disrespectful to customers who are paying for a fine dining experience. We will never be back. Hope the review helps the restaurant get their act together. Our issues started going sideways when my boyfriend ordered a medium-rare ribeye that came out med-well. Not sure how you overcook a $65 steak this much but it was. Along with that the fries that came out were cold and inedible as if they had just been sitting there not being run to the table. Things happen though and we were understanding as we asked for both to be refired. Our frustration from here began to mount thanks to our service by the server. The server barely apologized for this mess-up and disappeared for the next 20 minutes. Our drinks never got refilled. She never even checked on how the refired steak came out. You’d expect a restaurant that brands itself as fine dining to go out of their way to apologize. But there was nothing. No care from the server to management. No manager ever came over to our table to apologize for the mistakes. Instead all we received was our server ignoring us until she dropped off our check in in which she told u s “we took off the steak that you sent back”. Gee thanks for taking off the steak that didn’t come out right.

I was really disappointed with my recent visit to this restaurant. We started with a few appetizers, including an octopus dish that was actually quite good. Because we enjoyed it, we ordered a second one but the second serving was a completely different story. It looked like it was thrown together from scraps and was severely overcooked. For the main course, I ordered two New York steaks cooked medium. Instead, we were served two well-done ribeyes. I let the food runner know the order was wrong, and he brought over our waitress. She offered to let us keep the ribeyes while they remade the correct steaks. I told her to just make one New York steak instead of two. About 20 minutes later, it finally arrived and it was rare, nowhere near medium. When the manager came to check on the steak, she didn’t apologize or take responsibility. Instead, she said, “It looks medium to me,” even though it clearly wasn’t. That dismissive attitude only made things worse. To make it even more frustrating, the restaurant was nearly empty — only three tables were occupied on Memorial Day. If this is the level of service when it’s slow, I can’t imagine how bad it would be when they’re actually busy. After that, no one came back to check on us. I had to get up and ask for the check myself. The same waitress who made the original mistake dropped it off without a word. No one cleared our plates, offered dessert, or made any effort to make up for the experience. They only comped the ribeye and the second octopus dish — the ones we didn’t enjoy — which felt like the absolute bare minimum given how poorly the night went. The service was careless, the food inconsistent, and the management lacked any sense of accountability. A sincere apology, a complimentary dessert, or any gesture to show they valued our business would’ve gone a long way. Instead, it felt like they simply didn’t care.

Went for a meeting. The meat was excellent, I recommend aged meat. For the sides we order Mac and Cheese and the fries. Also the service was excellent.

We wanted a proper steakhouse dinner and we had it! And despite it being a Sunday night on a holiday weekend, we basically had wonderful Sean taking care of us as if we were at his home. I didn’t order a truly special steak because my dinner companion ordered the SPECTACULAR grilled chicken. Sean talked me through selecting a smaller cut that was delicious — he knew how to get me to what I would love. Delicious sauces. Delicious dessert. Nice wine list priced too high as are all American restaurant wine lists. The place should be full every night. Go!

We went to celebrate my mom’s cancer free anniversary and they made it so special. We had a last minute change in plans and I needed to make a reservation quick. I booked meat on ocean 15 minutes before we sat down and when we got there, our table was already all set up with flower petals and a signed congratulatory card from the staff. They seated us right in front so we could watch the sunset too. The service throughout dinner was great as well. Highly recommend, they made our dinner and my mom feel very special. Very grateful we went here.

Our waiter Jonathan was amazing server. Customer service is awesome.. location is amazing. Food quality was so so. Sitting inside is too dark luckily our table was at the edge of the patio with sunlight and view of the ocean.
