This place is the definition of a well prepared and well presented dining experience. Fine Dining but not stuffy. Wesley, the staff , food and the atmosphere make this worth every penny. You have to eat here at least one time in your life, and then I can promise you will be back.
The food was good and beautifully presented . Servings were very, very small; and I am an old man who does not need REAL big servings to satisfy me. My special occasion was my birthday, which the restaurant celebrated by putting a candle in the cheesecake that I was paying for. They could have, at the very least have comped a liqueur! There were three of us; spent $92 on wine and the bill was $475 plus $10 to the sommelier. I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world; and, at most of them, I left satisfied, because of either the food or some unique characteristic. I was VERY disappointed with McNinch House, and will not return.
WOW…What a Wonderful Experience!!
•FOOD....We loved every bite!!! And while individual portions are smaller than what most are used to, the overall quantity of food is perfect. We did the 5 courses and in addition to that we were served a starter crostini with whipped goat cheese, EVOO, Cherry Tomato and field green that was a very tasty surprise, a mini corn muffin with cheddar cheese and mini biscuit…both were very light and tasty.
•WINE….gosh where do I start….We did the Wine Pairing option. Wesley is such a treat in this role, and very knowledgeable in what selections to pair with your dining choices and can change it up based on personal palate. We spent $110 for this option which is what we would have spent on a nice bottle at other dining establishments however this was such a more enjoyable spend. We tasted 5 different wines, really 7 because on one course my husband and I had a different pairing per our course choice and at the end of our evening based on Wesley talking with us about the different wines and asking what wines we normally drink he gave us a taste of a wine he knew we’d appreciate based on that discovery….AND HE WAS SPOT ON.
•STAFF is professional and as expected with a fine dining experience they are quietly in the background but appear perfectly timed to handle any need, they are also friendly and willing to chat if you engage them.
•DE'COR is beautifully period. The table linens, china and cutlery really tied the whole experience together with that extra touch.
•ATMOSPHERE was correct in all the reviews, whereas it’s very romantic. With it being a historic home there are separate dining rooms that allow for you to feel like you have the whole place to yourself and everyone there just catering to you. It makes for a very enjoyable time with the soft background instrumental music.
•COST is comparative to chain fine dining, however with this overall experience you get much more for your spend.
A nice change from all the Uptown/South Park restaurants. A unique, historic home instead of just another chain. Private rooms are excellent options for groups. Great pre-theatre choice. I’m a vegan and they made me a totally vegan meal (all they asked for was a few days heads up). No parking hassle
The food was good, but cost an arm and a leg. If you want fine dining, great service, and don’t mind spending some money this is the place.
Fantastic dinner! One of the best food we’ve had one Charlotte. Service was amazing.
Very attentive and friendly service. Staff is very knowledgable in wine pairings to recommend with your food choices. Every course was very memorable, and all had amazing flavors. A little on the more expensive side but well worth it for the experience. A great special occasion and/or date night restaurant! Romantic!
Amazing evening. The most sophisticated fine dining establishment I have experienced in Charlotte. Best choice for a special occasion!
We truly enjoyed our visit to Mcninch House. The food was outstanding and the service was above and beyond! Our server, Tracy, may have been the best server we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Her attention to detail and her sincere interest in whether or not we enjoyed ourselves was top notch. The wine steward, Wes, was knowledgeable and helpful in picking our wines. This restaurant is outstanding. I can’t believe we have lived in Charlotte this long and not gone here.
This dinner was wonderful! The food was delicious! The portions were bigger than I expected, my cut of salmon was huge. I loved the atmosphere. They used china and actual silver for silverware. The service was great, the right amount of attention without being at our table every five seconds. I also loved the dress attire. All the men wore coats and all the ladies were dressed very nicely as well. Not a pair of jeans in sight! My boyfriend wore a suit, no tie and I wore a cocktail dress.
While I am giving it five stars (which it deserves) there were three things that I thought should be noted.
1) This place is expensive, but it is worth it. For two people the bill will definitely be over $300 when it's all said and done.
2) 20% gratuity is added on the bill. And it's added for everything, alcohol and tax. I don't necessarily mind the alcohol so much because they do have a wine director that did quite a bit of work and I'm assuming he is part of the tip share, but tipping on the tax shouldn't be required. That said it doesn't bother me enough to not go back.
3) The only part of service that missed the mark for me was that we were not offered coffee or some sort of dessert beverage. I thought that maybe they didn't have a coffee maker and that's why we weren't offered but when we were leaving I did see a coffee pot in the kitchen. Not too big of a deal as it would have added more money to the bill, but just a note.
Overall I loved this place and I will definitely be back for a special dinner!
We were disappointed and underwhelmed, and it was overpriced to boot! We have had far superior meals in Charlotte with much better food and service. Bizarre to walk through a filthy wait station in order to get to the bathrooms where the staff is sitting and snacking on trail mix and appeared to be watching tv. Took over half hour after we arrived just to get our wine, and the restaurant was not full. When asked by the waitress if I didn't like the course that I obviously took just one bite out of, I said that I didn't, and there was no apology, offer of something else, or adjustment to the price. No wonder they automatically put 20% gratuity on every bill; they certainly didn't earn it. Save your money and trust the reviews.
The place smelled weird. It had an old home Funk to it and it prevented me from truly appreciating my meal. The food was phenomenal, however it didn't justify paying close to $500 for two people to eat dinner.
Be very careful about making this reservation. Nowhere was it advertised that it was a prefix only menu and nearly $500 for two of us to eat.
Food is overpriced and only average. Minimum 5 course meal for $98 no a la carte menu. I’ve had much better food for much less in Charlotte. They were out of many wines on list and our first bottle had turned, plus got our order wrong brought wrong main course for me.
The service was superb and the food was excellent.
The food is not as good as it once was. Lack of sherry in the she crab soup, limp salad greens, baked Alaska arrived sans flambé. These are things that should not happen with a $400 dinner tab. Wine Steward Wesley is fantastic and saved our evening. He is the jewel in the crown at McNinch. The rest of it is quite tarnished.
Small portions is the real problem in this great little antique restaurant!
Sure we were delighted to be treated like royalty on our anniversary,
Food and chef are awesome
Ambiance is good
Service is top notch
Portions suck :)
But this is not for everyone
Food was good but watch out they add 20% tip without telling you. We almost added another 20% very misleading.
The restaurant is in an old house with a lot of original features, so the dining room decor is appropriately old fashioned. Very quiet and romantic atmosphere, very classic. It features a prix fixe menu, so we each had an amuse bouche, 2 starters, a palate-cleansing sorbet, entree, and dessert--with a fabulous bottle of wine. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and obviously enjoys his work. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
We had a wonderful time and the food was amazing. We had the best service, the sommelier we spectacular. The wine pairings he put together were perfect. I would highly recommend.
Wonderful as always. Must try place. Every time we go, this place exceeds expectations
Great food, Great Service, Great Experience. Loved the truffle beef strogonoff
Beautiful place to go, service like you seldom get.
Very overpriced for moderate food. I’m no stranger to $300 meals, but I didn’t feel the value was there. A filet mignon requires little skill and little reward for extra effort as opposed to more complex and robust choices. Crab cakes were way over salted also. Nothing really stood out as special other than the building and location.
Such a wonderful place. We never have a bad dinner here. They call you a couple of days before your reservation to confirm and ask about any allergies. They always take care of my wife’s allergies. Mcninch house has become our go to place for a date.
The food and service were out of this world! Will have to definitely go back for our next anniversary. Wonderful evening !
Excellent as usual. Upscale fine dining. Not for those who do not understand & appreciate that style & the associated cost of excellence. Plan on 2-3 hrs. and enjoy. Express verbally your needs to the staff & you will be accommodated. We have never been disappointed in many years as a patron. Thanks to Gentleman Wes the sommelier, you always make our visit personable & enjoyable. 12/30/2017
Food and service were great, but very pricey. We enjoy eating like this a few times throughout the year but this was more than double our standard cost for a similar atmosphere and meal of this caliber. Only complaint was the price. Great food, drinks and staff.
Overall we had a wonderful evening.
Having dined here for the last 11 years, sadly I have to say that for $400 the quality of the meal left us extremely disappointed. Back in the day this was our go-to special occasion restaurant. Historically, when making a reservation, they asked you what your prefer meat or fish. This time the menu was fixed. Six courses including counting therein a very small lettuce salad, two small balls of sorbet, and a cheesecake which was clearly bought, but I could have gotten better from Publix. They did not even offer coffee or tea with dessert. We have eaten all over the world and paid as much at a true michellin restaurant - that was an experience - this for the value was clearly not. It was at best a $180 meal. We left feeling quite taken advantage of which sucked the charm from an otherwise wonderful Anniversary evening. McNinch I fear you have lost a faithful patron. Next time Fig Tree...
The food was just mediocre, deafly not what I expected from this restaurant.
Ambiance and wine we’re perfect .
I was disappointed that a thin piece of smoked trout was the main course for the Christmas season 7 course meal. (for both the ‘thin’ and the ‘smoked’)
The wine was beautifully paired.
The hous was beautifully decorated. The front porch used to be a better place to lounge pre-meal.
We go to McNich House every year at least once and always for Christmas. It's a very special restaurant. For example, the room decor and woodwork is marvelous. Dining place settings are unique for each table. It is very beautifully decorated always and at Christmas it is absolutely gorgeous. The food is always outstanding and the menu changes seasonally. Some unique offerings along with some more traditional favorites served with a bit of something different. We like to do the wine pairings but Wesley does a great job with suggesting and serving some wonderful wines if you refer wine by the glass or a bottle of something special. Service is quiet, friendly, and very efficient. And the Rose is a wonderful touch.
Food was good, but not spectacular. Quiet atmosphere and there was no rushing to get us finished. A special occasion site, but very pricey. The apple galette dessert was very short on apples and skimpy on taste. It looked anemic.
After having been to McNinch House many times and finding it to be excellent on all counts, last night we were a bit underwhelmed. The food and ambiance were wonderful as always, but the service staff was not attentive. We had to ask for water and only got one glass. No refills were even offered. There was no one at the door to greet us which had always been the case before. Had to ask if someone would please check my coat rather than having someone offer to take it. We were frankly disappointed that the service and attentiveness were clearly not what we’d been accustomed to in the past.
Amazing food!!! Great service!!!!! Wait staff is excellent and the overall decor of the interior is stylistic and historical. Spacious bathroom!
One of the best restaurant s in N.C. Very creative food, extremely well prepared, fantastic presentation, and exceptional service. The wine pairings with each course were fantastic. Very highly recommend!!!
I had the duck as the main course and maybe had 5 small bites of duck. Beware they don’t sell just a meal it’s a course. We had the five course and it was over priced. Ambiance is great.
I love his place. Wesley is wonderful for wine selections!
We have been here once before and absolutely loved it. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary and wanted something special. The food was very disappointing from start to finish. We did not experienxe that our first visit and was extremely disappointed this time around. Not quite sure why this would be as the food was spectacular last time.
