This place was nice. Not a place for your everyday dinner but maybe a special date night or celebration. I thought the service was excellent. The food was good as well as the cocktail I had. I really enjoyed everything.
Very elegant, spectacular house and service. The wine recommendations and service were amazing
My sister was visiting from Mexico!!
Due to one way streets, my friend and I arrived about 10 minutes late for our reservation, and the staff were so gracious from the "get-go!" Wesley!! Oh I have to tell you about Wesley! He is a GEM of a gentleman, and someone's kindness I will always remember. On the way to use the restroom, the sole of one of my shoes decided at that moment to come loose! Wesley saw me struggling to manage this dilemma, and stoically intoned that if I would allow, he could fix that for me. He "just happened" to keep Gorilla glue on hand, and so politely took my shoe, and before we left that evening, this wonderful man had repaired my shoe beautifully, and placed it by my other one beside my chair. Who does this? Do you have any idea how many times over the years that I would be at an important function, only to find that I needed something repaired! This is the 1st time ever in my life that someone was actually prepared for the incidentals. Yes I will remember the drinks and food, the ambiance, and all that the evening entailed, but especially to this gentle man who bothered to help me out. Thank you Wesley, and for making our experience at McNinch House more than we ever thought it could be.
Outstanding in every way. Great Sommilier.
I was very disappointed in what I thought would be a fantastic dining experience. While the service was impeccable, the food left much to be desired. The strip was overcooked and came with a measly 2 brussel sprouts. The caramel and chocolate dessert was good, but the accompanying cherries tasted like vinegar. Looking outside there was potting soil and garden tools left in the front yard. Attention to detail is what makes great restaurants. This was overpriced and did not meet expectations.
We’ve been to the McNinch House on several special occasions over the years. Last night’s Chef Tasting menu created by Chef Matthew with wine pairings, was again exceptional. The food was visually stunning with sophisticated flavors. The wine pairings by Wes were unexpected and pleasantly surprising with a world tour of wine varietals. Wes and the other staff make each trip to the McNinch House truly an unsurpassed dining experience that no other culinarily restaurant in Charlotte can compare. Ellen continues to inspire after 30+ years!
The single greatest dining experience I have ever experienced!
Finally after 20 years of passing by this restaurant/house on my way to work, I finally went. And they did not disappoint. The McNinch house is truly a fabulous dining experience. The food was outstanding. The sommelier was the best. He really knows his wine pairings. I was hesitant to go with his suggestions but ended up taking them - and they were spot on. Service was great too. Magnificent.
Great night. Very nice place with exceptional service and the food is excellent. They do not turn tables. The table you get is yours for the night.
Tracy and Lesley were very friendly yet professional. The food was excellent!
So I was pretty excited about this place but was underwhelmed by each course. First they brought out a mango ginger gazpacho, which was lacking in ginger but still ok. That was accompanied by a champagne, which was actually decent. Next was a pea and asparagus salad that was really something that I could do better at home, something should have been done with the asparagus like a quick blanching or something of that nature. After the salad was a crab cake that was too salty, over all it was again ok but nothing to brag about. Next was artic char, this was actually my favorite dish. The skin could have been cooked a little longer but other than that it was a fine dish. The second entree was a pheasant that was bland and overcooked, extremely tough and lacked in flavor all around. The sides with this dish were the best part about the dish. For the dessert was a carrot cake and carrot ice cream, which is my wife's favorite, but this was not a good carrot cake, and the ice cream was so hard that you could not cut it with a spoon. The whipped cream cheese with it was lacking sugar and created a very sour flavor for the dish as a whole.
As for the wine... I love wine and love a good wine pairing, you will not find that here. Each wine clashed with the dish it was served with. It was a bit disappointing really. There is a lot of potential with each dish but overall the entire meal was poorly executed. For the price, I had higher expectations, and this did not live up to thosse expectations. I Probably won't be back.
McNinch House is an excellent restaurant. Although I would recommend it for its service, food, and ambiance, I would add a caveat that it as a bit overpriced. But that is true for most Charlotte restaurants. My wife and I travel a lot and have eaten in fine establishments, mid-range establishment, and low priced eateries. In all categories Charlotte is most expensive. In my estimation the McNinch is overpriced by about 10-15 %. That said, if your budget allows a super splurge, then I would recommend a visit. And again I would repeat that the staff is excellent as are food and atmosphere.
Quaint and lovely place to have a fine dinner. Overall very pleased with our experience which was the first time eating there. The price will prevent us from eating there on any regular basis. The biggest negative was a gratuity was automatically added for just two people. I typically would tip 20% and don’t appreciate that decision being made for me.
The food was plain and expensive . Portions came out cold , were small and not creative.
The absolute best restaurant in the state and maybe the nation!!!
Amazing food and service - definitely coming back!
It was a great experience. The food was amazing and the overall experience was fantastic.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my love’s birthday. Thanks to all that took such good care of us.
It was a wonderful experience and worth every penny!
Totally enjoyed our first time experience at McNinch House. While the restaurant is quite pricey, they deliver with excellent food, fine service, and a beautiful setting. If there was a problem, it would have been with a group in another room that was fairly noisy. However, the staff tried to mitigate that problem by closing the door between the two rooms. We will be back.
Exceptional dining experience and the service was equally as good. Quality experience and worth the price.
We went to McNinch House to celebrate our anniversary. The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. We chose the 6 course option and were not disappointed. The cheese course was amazing. The sommelier suggested a delicious Pinot Noir to go with my rabbit, which was cooked perfectly. I’ve always heard incredibly good things about McNinch House, and it definitely lived up to its reputation!
Amazing overall experience. I like the service and hospitality.
Great food and wine. Personal service. Fantastic staff
Do the grand tasting menu. Could not speak higher of the experience. The wine pairing could not have been better
This is likely one of the most intimate dining in Charlotte. I felt that I didn't have just a waiter but at least 3 or 4 people almost individually attending to our table. It was a great meal.
It was a quiet relaxing evening. Be prepared to bring you wallet as it is very expensive but the food was great!
The McNinch House was definitely a dining experience. We went during the Winter menu and unfortunately we are not big seafood people so we didn’t have much to choose from when it came to the first course. We both had the Steak but my cut was much more fatty than my husbands. It is also very quiet and you are close to the other tables so it is a little challenging to have a conversation. If you enjoy a diverse pallet of food you would most likely enjoy it and it’s definitely worth going for the experience where you feel like you are being served in another era.
Great all around experience Heavenly food and great wine list with servers trying to squeeze out the enjoyment for you
What a fabulous meal in a beautiful old home full of history! We highly recommend this place!
We were looking forward to dining here. We were disappointed in several things, the menu was limited and not overly interesting. We felt the food was above average but nothing wow. Our server was not friendly but certainly did an adequate job. A 20% tip was automatically added to our bill and I would never have given that willingly. The restaurant states that it is a French restaurant but when we arrived and saw the menu we asked about it and they said it was more French American, what does that even mean! I have been o France and this didn't even begin to measure up. Honestly, for the money the food didn't come close to measuring up. If you want to dine in a quiet Victorian home then you might be happy. If you are looking for a meal worthy of a $100 per person not including drinks or gratuity I would strongly encourage you to choose another restaurant, as there are far better options in Charlotte than the McNinch House.
My only disappointment was they had run out of quail egg and I ordered the spinach salad. Didn't know until they brought it to my table. Otherwise I would have ordered something else. It was the only reason I ordered that salad. I've never had quail egg. The other food was the best that I've had! The broccoli mousse! Omg.
The man who told us about some history on the house was awesome. His stories added that great personal touch.
Service was great
The restaurant is a little dated but the food was nice.
Wine in wrong glass.
Candles on table kept burning out.
Amazing delicious meal. Definitely not cheap but overall I would have to say worth it. Wine pairings were excellent.
It's pricey, the only thing they offered was the Chef's menu selections, which was $185 with the wine pairings included. They added an automatic gratuity of 20% for a party of 4, with tax and tip it was almost $250 per person. With that said, it was an outstanding 5 course meal and excellent service. It took more than 3 hours. Elegant home from 1891.
We always like to go to McNinch House for celebrating. Wesley is amazing. The food is always delicious. Thank you for a wonderful night!
I have lived in Charlotte for over 30 years and this is the first time that I had dined at the McNinch House. And I have to say it was an amazing experience. From the moment that my friend and I stepped into the door the service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I would recommend it and I definitely will dine there again. It's a great place for a romantic dinner!
