McNamara's Steak and Chop House Ratings and Reviews
McNamaras is the perfect restaurant for special occasions. It's our favorite place to celebrate special birthdays and holidays, and entertain visiting guests. Steaks are their speciality, and the entire meal is prepared to perfection. The horseradish mashed potatoes are to die for, and the creme brulee is the best you'll find. A highlight for us is the live piano music (Saturday nights, not sure what other nights). Several times, the musician has played special requests for us. Very friendly and professional atmosphere.
Past visits have always been exceptional, but my wife's birthdays celebration dinner was wrought with fair at best service. It started with no acknowledgement at a table in the bar... then, I am not sure if we had inexperienced server, but it just seemed to a not up to par. We were seated...a long time passed before we were acknowledged and refills for water, tea and table service ware (silverware and napkins) were difficult at best to get without me getting up to retrieve on my own. The savings grace...the food was exceptional and the piano player was of the highest caliber! I have frequented McNamara's Steak and Chop House probably 20 times in the last four years...this was the exception not the rule!!! Will I come back...Yes!!!
I placed reservations using this app (open table) when I arrived I still had to wait another 25 min for an open table, while waiting we placed orders for drinks at the bar, my date and I ordered the same thing but somehow she received something very different but we just ignored that. After being seated we weren't greeted by a waiter for another 15 min. The food was dry but ok. The waiter messed up on my dates order and made it seem as if it were our faults. After returning with my dates missing side to complete her order, which we were both practically done with and ready for the check he goes missing for a long period of time. I also added notes that it was my girlfriends 31st Birthday. Nothing happened.
On the occasion of our 49th wedding anniversary, we arrived for our 6 0'clock reservation to a bar full of a very loud group having drinks only. We were seated in the main dining room but the noise level permeated throughout the entire restaurant so that my wife and I couldn't carry on a normal conversation. I'm sure it will never happen again, and the restaurant staff was very apologetic, but the ambience of the evening was very disappointing for us.
It was our 20th Wedding Anniversary and we wanted to try a new place we have never been to before. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess who wished us a happy anniversary. No wait, off to our table. The waiter also greeted us with a happy anniversary and gave us complimentary Champagne. It was dark with a piano player and very romantic. We will go back again soon. Want to try the outdoor patio by the fire pit.
The my food was terrible, my wife's was terrible as well and our guest didn't have anything nice to say, and the service after we ordered was substandard, I'm not sure what happened, we used to go here a lot, although it's been over a year since our last visit, and it WAS! always great. It sure isn't now.
We went here years ago after a recommendation from a friend. The food was just ok at that time. We thought we would give this place a second chance and we were so disappointed. The food was extremely bland. No taste at all. The oyster rockerfellar tasted more like sour runny cheese than oysters and spinach. The stuffed salmon and ahi tuna had no taste at all. The porterhouse steak was good but not cooked the way it was ordered. The brownie dessert was not a brownie but a dry brown cake. The bread pudding tasted like it was microwaved. We were so disappointed. We will never return again and will not recommend the restaurant.
The entrees were hot and delicious. We had rib eye and stuffed pork chops. They were flavorful and good portion size. However the appetizer was crab cakes. Not very good and the sauces were too mayonnaise tasting. The dessert which was brownie and ice cream were not very good either. The ice cream n fruit were fine but the brownie was not. Didn't taste like a brownie. Was more sponge like and dry. Appletini was average. Stella beer was fine. The waiter was ok. Not very personable.
Ideal for a business meeting; quiet, dark and slightly formal. The menu is mostly classic steak house fare, and the wine list is thoughtful. Our group was impressed by the unexpectedly excellent fish entrees; sole, halibut and a macademia-crusted Hawaiian white fish special were all superb.
We went here to celebrate my husband's 35th birthday and we both had a wonderful first time experience. Our waiter was very attentive and the pianist was amazing! We have a 1 month old with us and the music soothed her to sleep...he was THAT good. Pricing can be a little steep but the food makes it worth it. We now have found "our" special restaurant.
Looking for an East Bay restaurant on OpenTable and found McNamara's. Easy directions to a quiet location - started @ the bar for some wine. Once my other diners arrived, we were seated immediately. Started w/Salmon appetizer - flaky and flavor. The fresh selections were excellent - Monchong and a seafood variety over risotto. Both were well prepared.
I recommend and will return again
Great experience. Service and food were great. The only problem was that the light over our table was dim. There was, apparently, a problem with the lamp at our table. The waiter offered to re-seat us but others in the party did not want to move once we had (with difficulty) read our menus and ordered.
My husband and I celebrated our 24th Wedding Anniversary at McNamara's this weekend and were dissappoited in the food. The quality of food and preparation declined. My husband ordered the scallops and he said they were rubbery and previously frozen. My prawn cocktail was almost $13 for four (4) prawns that were split open (with some veins left in) and laying on a plate with garnish. Overall disappointed with food and service. We have too many good restaurants in our area to risk going back to McNamara's.
I took my significant other, of 5 years, here for her 24th birthday. Hostess was very nice and gave us the best seat in the house. Ambiance was quite and low lighting. We had a fireplace and pianist playing in front of us. He even played Happy Birthday for her! -What a treat. Service is good. Food is great! This is one of my favorite places. I would recommend it to anyone.
McNamara's Steak and Chop House is consistently the best in the Greater Bay Area. The Prime Rib is beyond great and their steaks are melt in your mouth delicious. The service is exceptional and the ambiance is fit for a romantic dinner for two or a nice evening with friends or family. We have been to McNamara's enough times now to say that it is better than Ruth's Crist, Friday's Station, and any other restaurant that claims to be a steakhouse in this area.
We went there last weekend to celebrate a birthday. The service was great, and the food was superb. The steaks were cooked exactly to order (one rare and one well done), and the ribs were the largest rack I have ever seen in a restaurant. The piano player added a special touch. They even went out of their way for the four year old guest.
We ordered the Mac n cheese for our kids, and it came as a watery noodle soup and tastes like old cheese that they tried to water down with milk. None of the food was seasoned, and had no taste. The scalloped potatoes also tasted old, and the texture was off, as if they attempted to reheat and serve again. NEVER GOING BACK
This was not our first visit to McNamara's. It's an old-fashioned, detail-oriented restaurant. Wait staff is excellent. Food is very good. (House smoked salmon appetizer is amazing!) We enjoyed the ability to be pampered a bit, and to relax over a leisurely dinner. But we also found it a bit sad that there were so many empty tables. It was a Saturday night, and we really didn't even need our reservation; the place was mostly empty. That's too bad. It's a bit pricey, but worth the luxury.
Second time in 6 months for dinner and found the meal above par.
Steak and Pork Chop large and delicious.
The special " Cajan Prime Rib w/ 3 coconut shrimp" was great along
with shrimp-lobster tomato bisque. Very comfortable seating and atmosphere,
A little dark for menu reading. Will go back....
