Really unimpressive. We started out at the bar where the bartender told us he would make us blue cheese olives for martinis but conveniently forgot when making the drink. A couple of people ordered old fashions and that was a no-go because they ran out of bitters. Switching to a manhattan ended up just being a whiskey and coke passed off as a manhattan.
In general, the service was slow. People were certainly nice, but speed was not something they cared about much.
Dinner was mediocre. The steaks were OK. I ordered the "American Waygu" medium rare. It came out more than medium and ultimately had no flavor. Others seemed to enjoy their steaks, but all said and done, it was not worth $100 per person and we won't be going back.
Made a reservation, but didn’t need it. We turned out to be very late and called they said whenever you get here is fine. The ability to get in and the jazz musician were the only good things about our experience. Tried ordering the ‘prime’ filet to be told they were out. Ordered lobster, but the waitress came back and said they were out of that too and how about the crab? Fine, the crab it is! Dad ordered the prime ribeye chop for $72 medium rare and it came medium well. The server agreed and offered to redo it only to return with the same steak arguing that ‘the chef said when you cut it in the center it’s medium rare!’ Dad is sort of a beef aficionado and frankly you never tell the customer they are wrong...especially after you take their plate back to the kitchen! My guess is they were out of that too and it couldn’t be remade. The crab bordered on rancid. They kindly took that off the bill, but I worried all night that my son was going to get sick! There were fruit flies swarming around our drinks. I just can’t make this stuff up. No wonder it was so easy to get in. I am not one to write reviews, but when prompted by opentable I just can’t let this go...or others go to this restaurant. They tried to be accommodating, but you can’t fix poor and ailing quality. The bill was over $300 for 3 adults and 2 kids and most of the drinks were on a bar tab. Don’t do it!
Great food, outstanding service, and quiet dining. Very nice for a dinner with business associates.
Expensive. Everything a la carte. Small 8 oz filet mignon $39, au gratin potatoes $9. Good, but no better than any other steakhouse.
The service was good, food was good but we won’t be back. T
Service and Food was tremendous, made for a very pleasant evening
Absolutely wonderful the minute you step in the door! It was our 30th anniversary and they made it wonderful!
This is the 5th or 6th time my wife and I have been to McNamara's for some sort of special occasion or with friends, and we've always had a pleasant and memorable meal. This time was no different. The staff were friendly and polite, and the food was delicious
Very few people there, very quiet, very 80s and not good steaks.
This place is a joke! Went on a Saturday night and the place was dead. The steaks come a la carte and are not that good, especially for the price. The waitress was totally clueless about the menu and specials. Our dessert (tiramisu) was completely frozen! Place needs to be shut down for good.
I have read good and bad reviews about this restaurant. We were a party of eight and everything from the drinks at the bar to food at the table was top of the line. Not one complaint among us and there are several in our party who are not easy to please. We were there on a weekday so that may have helped.
McNamaras has everything... except for good food, good prices and a well kept dining area. The Rib Eye steak which went for, I believe $58, was not seasoned well and was closer to Well Done vs Medium as I ordered it. The outer well done area was chalky and not juicy. If that is due to their "aged" meat then their aging does nothing for the flavor and texture. Did I mention it wasn't seasoned well? The sides are ala carte for an additional $8-10 and they were only OK, not worth the additional cost.
The waiter was friendly and jovial. The good was delivered in good time.
The dining room itself was dark but if you paid attention you'd see it was pretty run down with no recent updates. The round table my family and I sat at had wings to turn into a square table and the wings were not level and could move around. The tables themselves were clean and well groomed.
For a MUCH better steak you are much better off going to Cattlemens and getting a Cowboy Steak for half the cost and twice the quality (meaning perfectly seasoned) AND two side orders included.
In a nutshell: McNamaras is not worth the additional cost.
My husbands French onion soup was ok, as was his ribeye just ok! My lobster bisque was great as was the shrimp cocktail. My prime rib and the lobster tail were really good. Our favorite thing was the warm sourdough and the herb butter. Fir the price it should of been great it was just OK. We will give them one more try.
I rarely go to a restaurant that I know and have enjoyed and have a bad experience but not this time. Food was cold, meat was not tender, service was just ok Very disappointed after so many good meals. Would not return
It’s our first time dining here. We would definitely come back soon.
Can't say enough about the overall experience.
Was very disappointed in the food. Only had bread bowl of clam chowder. It was not good at all. Had zero taste! A blind fold test would not have known what was being served. Soup had particular color and no taste of clam chowder. I could not eat the soup.
The bread served with the meal was very good.
The server was alone and became the host, server, and bartender.
McNamara's is a beautiful place.
We had great service, but for a few of us the food was
not up to par as we remember.
We will go back and hope it will be better next time.
The price of the specials on the menu the quality of the food was really bad and the seafood didn't taste good, the temperature of the food was not warm. The waitress asked us did we want to send back to get heated up but we declined and were ready to leave! We'll not be returning ever again!
The service was lousy and very unprofessional. We had to wait for our food after other people were served food who came in the restaurant after we did. The waitress was very forget and she admitted she was getting overwhelmed. The manager came and paid for the drinks. The waitress served desert for three birthday people all in one bowl with no utensil to eat with or a separate dish. One steak was so tough, it required sawing with the knife to get a cut of the steak. The table next to us also had a birthday celebration where the waiter sang the Happy Birthday song. We did not get a song sang to us. This was the most disheartened experience I ever had at restaurant. I have visited McNamara's Steak and Chop House in the past and it was not this bad. The manager explained he had hired new people who were not measuring up. I feel it was such a was of time and money for a Birthday celebration dinner. I am glad our party was small because I was considering a bigger party next time. But not anymore
Wonderful ambiance with a piano playing in the background...
Went for our 45th anniversary and it was our 1st visit there. The service (Luis!) was amazing and the food (every bite) as well. Tim, the owner/manager stopped by our table several times and made us feel so welcome. I'd recommend McNamara's to any and all.
Have been here many times. Food is terrific, service is top notch. But apparently it's changed hands. Too bad.
I'd bought discount coupons at Costco and have used them many times in the past. This time they refused to take the coupons because they were "too old." When I questioned the refusal, I got lip service.
Lousy customer service shouldn't be rewarded. I won't be back.
We made the mistake of coming here for valentines day. We have been here several times over the years and always enjoyed it. However they were completely out of control and understaffed this feb 14. We had reservations so why so shocked at the restaurant being packed? The bartender was pulled into servicec a our waiter and did the best he coukd with zero training- but he had at least ten tables! Drinks were ages in arriving and forget about getting bread or your water refilled. We expected to wait a bit and we didnt mind but it was pretty ridiculously legnthy. And it was a prixe fix menu which was a surprise. Food was mediocre and not hot. I wondered if someone had bought the restaurant we visited in the past as it was not a super fun experience. There were nutcrackers from christmas over the fireplace- no attempt at decor. Anyway wont go back there for awhile but will eventually prob give them another chance from a disappointing evening.
Had reservations but waits between food. Bread and butter good but main meal cold. Didn’t like the all inclisive dinner price which was horrible value.
That was a $350 dinner for two adults and one child. Would never repeat.
Well the night started out ok, the bread was great! The appetizer was good too but the NY steal was pretty bland in taste and the Mac n cheese i really didn’t like either. The salad was also nothing special. For the money it was a cross bettsizller & cattleman’s. The waitress left for long periods of time but i get it cause it was Valentine’s Day and they were slammed. All in all it was way to expensive for the quality of food. I won’t be back there...
Great experience. Felt the pricing was too high.
We were coming in from out of town and stopped here because the ratings were good. Our first time here, first impression was the building looked tired from the outside. It looks like it has just been unkept. Inside the atmosphere is nice, a bit outdated, but the service was excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
The food was good, no complaints. For valentines dinner it was $90 per person, so $180 before we even saw the menus. 4 small crab cakes, a small bowl of lobster bisque for me, a small Caesar salad for her. I ordered a 6oz filet, added crab for an extra $35, and chicken Marsala for her. We finished it off with 2 small deserts. As I said the food was good, but nothing worthy of $180. We did order drinks from the bar which were well made.
All in all we likely won’t be back. After dinner, drinks and tip we walked out spending $350. Frankly not worth the value, but if you have money to throw away and want a nice meal it’s not a bad spot.
Saturday night, very cold in restaurant. Server was poorly assigned all over the dining room stretching her far too thin. Bus staff poorly trained, clear but don't replace silverware resulting in dinner served and nothing to eat with and wait staff having to serve and clear.
This shows poor management in the dining room.
Then, one of my favorites, French onion soup, is terribly salty.
Bar served a great Manhattan but poorly staffed forcing wait staff to have to pour dinner wines again pushing table service out.
Way overpriced, dry over cooked steaks. The best part of the meal was the butter that came with the bread.
Great place for family or business events. Looking forward to returning.
Food & service was very good, solid, great variety, but the facility itself needs a bit of upgrade/refresh as its starting to look a bit dated.
Marked as $$ on Open Table when in fact this is an expensive Restaurant. Between 1.5 to 2 times the price of standard $$ restaurants.
Open table should change that!!!
Food is no better than other much cheaper restaurants. The ambiance is for rich people who are looking for the fancy feeling.
We had great service. The Steak and AuGratin Potatoes I had were perfect. The Prime Rib and Mushrooms were equally as good. Cesar Salad was delicious with warm bread . Decent wine list .
Just a date night and movie great food to start the night
Always friendly staff and great service
Overpriced, it felt like everyone wanted to go home, couldn’t change time of reservation but the place was relatively empty.
our service was so slow and our food was poorly presented. our steaks were bad cuts of rib steak and served cold. we complained and got free coffee. big deal for a $500 bill. first time there and will never go again. the shrimp cocktail was poorly presented also. just thrown in a bowl. the only good thing about the meal were the deserts. the cheesecake and breadpudding were delicious.
over priced but we were willing to pay for a good meal, which we did not receive. even the lamb shank was dry. just not good at all. besides being cold.
The food came out and the steaks were dry and fillet was well done instead of medium rare. We had to serve our own wine... Had to ask for water multiple times. The utensils came dirty twice. The waiter seemed preoccupied with bigger tables. For the price it was not worth it!!
I've been a regular customer to McNamara's over the years. I live close by in San Ramon, CA. My lady and myself went to McNamara's to celebrate the New Year, not to PAY $275.43 for dinner, including the tip. Our waiter was great! I believe the menu was designed to offer many different entrees. I do not think the money I spent was worth our dinner. I WILL NOT return to McNamara's again. It was a ripoff!
