McNamara’s is Located in the center of the TriValley. McNamara's Steak and Chop House (patterned after the famous chop houses in Chicago) is situated near the junction of Highway 580 and 680, less than three miles from Bishop Ranch and Hacienda Business Park. Surrounded by San Ramon, Pleasanton and Castro Valley, the restaurant is within minutes from Danville, Alamo and Livermore. If you're from out of town, McNamara’s is within two miles or less of most of the major hotels.
We serve only the finest hand selected Midwestern corn fed Angus beef, aged for a minimum of 21 days. All of our fish is delivered fresh daily. Our bread is hand crafted and baked fresh 7 days per week. Our award winning wine list features some of the finest wines available in California.

Valentine's Day. Let's have a great meal together at a place we have enjoyed before.
We have enjoyed this restaurant several times in the past few years. It is an old-school chop house, and it is never more than half full. We made a 7:30 reservation.
At 7:30, the place was packed, and the front desk was frantic. They tell us it will be at least another half hour. Go to the bar and have a free drink. But there are people EATING at the bar, so it's impossible to actually get there.
After 45 minutes, we are led to our table, to discover that there is a fixed price menu for the day. It's fine, but it was not expected. We quickly see that there are way too many people and way too few waiters/servers/bussers. The organization of the evening was a mess.
About the food: the crab cakes appetizer tasted as if it had been made hours earlier. Room temperature and had no crab taste at all. Presentation on the plate, however, was very nice. Lobster bisque and clam chowder were both very thick; gravy rather than soup. The bisque tasted as if it were the very end of the large vat of bisque that had been made some time before. The chowder was better. The ribeye steak and the pork chops were both very good. The sides that we ordered had magically inflated prices (normally $4 each but $10 each tonight). Unacceptable.
I'm betting that there has been a recent change in management, and the new management had not planned sufficiently for this special event. Too bad, because we had felt that this was something of an old-school landmark; we probably won't be back.
We purchased the groupon for $74, it gave us $114 worth of food. We shared a salad which was good and the bone in rib eye. The steak was tough. I wish we ordered the filets. Service was good. Atmosphere is quiet, comfortable chairs but overall it looks dated.
Appetizers were cold in the middle as they were previously frozen, sent back and a few came back still cold in the middle. French fries were good, onion rings were not hot but room temperature and somewhat soggy. The steak was ok but not worth the $40+ price tag. Took a long time for the server to come to our table each time and asking for a dessert menu and to order took so long we ended up not having dessert. It was a disappointing experience, we had hoped for so much more.
Living close to this establishment, but never eating here, my wife and I decided to try this restaurant... As we like to have early dinners we made reservations for 5:30OM... Entering we found that there were only two couples dinning which was nice.. We were greeted by Tim, who we presumed was the owner.. He was nice and friendly and escorted us to our table..We ordered glasses of wine from our waiter and looked over the menu.. My wife decided to order the lobster tail (6 oz) and I ordered the 7oz Fillet Mignon... Sides ordered were a baked potato and potato Gratin... We never salt our food so we found our meal more salty then normal... Still my steak was absolutely cooked to perfection.. My wife loved her lobster tail... We split a pear and greens salad as well.. My wife ordered a coffee with baileys after dinner... We found that by the time we were getting ready to leave the restaurant had started to fill up..
we will definitely return again but will request less salt next time..
Restaurant was over booked and understaffed, even for a New Year’s Eve dinner. I understand it’s always busy on those days, but it took almost 2 hours to get our food. Manager came up towards the end and compre some drinks, but I would have preferred better food, on time instead of a free drink. We couldn’t order the dessert we wanted because we were told by the waiter that would take another hour. Restaurant should not take so many customers if they don’t have the staff. We have been customers for years, but not sure if we will be going back any time soon.
After a rough start while checking in for our reservation, the restaurant totally recovered and made it right! We wound up having a really good dinner. The food was very good and the steaks were cooked to the correct temp. Seasonal veggies could have used some seasoning, though.
I would like to thank the owners for being right on point for my engagement dinner; we didnt have to wait to be seated even with other big parties being behind. They both made sure our party was taken care of with the food and drinks.
Great service and even better they allowed us to stay after the restaurant closed.!
I will come again plus the steak and food tasted way better then Ruth Chris and Flemings put together.
Really poor experience. 2 in our group ordered NY Strips and the steaks came out and looked more like a cheap cut of sirloin less than 3/4 inch thick and about 4-5 inches wide. We were told a mistake was made but they promised that they were in fact NY strips. Offered to make something else and did in fact take 1 off the bill but overall we felt that their response wasn’t genuine or truthful
Unfortunately this isn’t the same McNamara’s anymore. The new ownership really doesn’t understand how to deliver an upscale steakhouse experience. Honestly, everything from the food to the service was like a London steakhouse, and I don’t mean that as a compliment. I would avoid at all costs unless they change ownership again.
This is a high-class, old style steak house. Great atmosphere, outstanding wine list, excellent food. Our waiter was less than attentive, and we had to ask when he should have been more alert. But the rest of the staff -- the folks who did the busing and the water serving -- were attentive and friendly (and should be commended).
We save McNamara's for very special occasions. We probably ought to go more often. Their house smoked fish appetizer is amazing. Their creme brule is the perfect way to end your meal.
We ordered three different steaks and they were all over cooked. We sent one back and it came back with only a small improvement. The veggies and starters were promising, and the serving staff were lovely, but at the prices charged the steaks did not deliver.
made a reservation, had to wait 20 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was virtually empty, steaks were bland, and cold when they came out, and the coffee after my meal had a burnt taste, like it has been sitting for hours. when you pay this much for food, you should be wowed, not feel like you got ripped off--
i could have got a better steak at dennys-
We've lived in the area for 17 years, and had always wanted to try this restaurant, but never had the chance and looked forward to dining there with great anticipation. We have never been so disappointed. The service was very slow. The steaks were on par with any steak house at half the price. Although the location is extremely convenient, we've chalked it off as a restaurant to which we must return.
I reached the restaurant and there was a note on the door saying that they are closed today. I understand that there can be sudden issues but they should not let open table make reservations if they are closed. Because of this I didn't make any other reservation and I had to scramble around last minute to find a place to eat. Very disappointing.
I wouldn't recommend it. High priced food. Steak came our with canned crab meat on top not fresh crab. Steak was cold and entree sides were tired looking. Service seemed forced and not friendly hardly refilled our glasses with the 2 bottles of wine. Atmosphere was dated and too dark. The Indian gentleman who sat us was friendly invited and accomodating and the most pleasant thing about this steak house. I paid $300 for a birthday dinner and they did bring us a dessert. The lack of friendly attentive service and canned crab on cold steak I will not be back.
