McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge
This location and the grounds are so cool and interesting. Will definitely go back when we visit our friends living in Kalama.
Our first trip to this location and a very pleasant one it was. After it first opened, we heard they got off on a bad start. It was no surprise that they would get the kinks ironed out and that they did, we had a wonderful time.
We always enjoy McMenamins and they did a fantastic job with decor and ambiance at Kalama Harbor Lodge. Very fun to visit. Music was a little louder than we like it.
Our first experience there was great, this last time... not so much. Our waitresses took over 30 minutes to get our order in, and up to an hour to actually get our food. We had multiple waitresses, that didn't seem too personal or attentive to the customers. The servers were great and more helpful then the actual waitresses. We talked to someone after the service we received, and the first thing out of her mouth was I hope you're not looking to get compensated.... like really, you're lucky I still paid.
Our food was really good by the time it arrived. Service was extremely slow. We sat for 20 min waiting for our server to arrive. She did apologize but then wasn’t very attentive throughout the remainder of our visit. Still, she was very friendly. But our time is valuable too.
I paid $15 for the special, Chicken with Blueberries, cucumbers and cucumber dressing (?). The lettuce was wilty and soggy, the dressing WAY too much and the serving size was pretty small for the price.
The room was fairly dark, not enough bright lighting and the noise level made it hard for me to hear my friend when she was speaking.
Overall, I think it was overpriced.
IT would have been nice to have had a view of the water, since we were celebrating our 20th Anniversary. Just like any other McMenamins as far as atmosphere goes.
Don't go there for the food or the service. While the server did her best they were obviously short of staff. 30 minutes from when we were seated to when our drink order came. The food was typical McMenamin's mediocre food. Stick with the burger selection and you will be fine. A very nice building and atmosphere overshadowed by mediocre food and service.
With reservations, we waited over an hour for breakfast. The food arrived very cold and poorly prepared . $77 dollars for 4 people for breakfast, not oncluding the tip.
We waited more than an hour for food
Burger and tots. Thats ridiculous
The views are amazing and so was the food, we will be back for sure.
Great view sitting on the Columbia River. But you can sit by the river for free and not spend money for bad food and terrible service. We spent 3 nights in a different McMenamins and they do not care about the quality of their food or their service. You would think witj the amount of money the brothers have made that they would serve some decent food and have sone standards for their servers..
Lunch was an amazing delight! I made reservations through Open Table and requested a table outside overlooking the river. We were seated immediately. Our server was efficient and polite. We were celebrating a birthday and he wished the birthday girl a very happy birthday, which delighted her. I had the Brewer Salad, it was wonderful and the added grilled chicken was cooked to perfection. Lunch was served in a very timely manner which delighted me because I was prepared for a long wait. I'll definitely go back there for lunch. I'd love to stay there in a room overlooking the beautiful Columbia River. Our lunch was delightful, and watching the ships pass was spectacular. Anyone waiting a good meal, great drinks and likes the water would love having lunch at the Kalama Lodge.
It was our first visit & we enjoyed lunch in the pub. We waited about 45 minutes for our meal, but I we weren’t in a hurry. Fun place & very popular.
We had a great time! The Cod was amazing and so was the goat cheese appetizer.
We had a great evening
Busy on Friday night. Reservations a must. Nice view of river.
It was a little noisy but that was due to the young men sitting at the table next to us.... they were talking over each other and got louder and louder.
French fries were OK... a little oily but good taste.
Salad, clam and chowder were excellent
The view is extraordinary but the food was okay. When you sit outside, you get served by the outside kitchen, which does not cook chicken! So odd! We’ve had better food at other locations. The waitress was friendly and attentive.
Food was outstanding. Service was great. When making the reservation I asked I hoped for a window table and we didn’t get one. The group before us and so did the group after us.
Food delivery takes way too long but is getting better. Servers and food are great!
Mushy fries, even after we complained and they tried again.
Slow service. No one came to our table after 10 mi it’s wait.
The lodge is very nice. We were there for dinner. The service was great once we got seated. There was a "wait to be seated" sign at the desk but there was no one there to help seat customers (waited at least 3 minutes). So we found the people we were meeting. The food was good but a bit overcooked. The service staff at our table was great!
Really nice view in the outdoor patio, the only downside is the menu is different, limited for picky people haha.
Sitting outside was delightful. Great view and our waiter was attentive and kind.
This is a review for the restaurant only. I wanted to like McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge and had high hopes that this restaurant, beautifully located on the Columbia River, would satisfy. Unfortunately, the food and service lacked the culinary punch that one expects. Firstly, the service was rushed and our server looked flustered and overworked. Perhaps she had too many tables to do her job well, and with a smile. The wait for the food bordered on ridiculous and arrived barely warm--most likely not the servers fault. The food we ordered was standard pub fare that has the potential to be fun and tasty. It was neither. Deschutes Brewery in Portland gets it right. Were McMenamins Kalama to pattern their restaurant after Deschutes Brewery both in customer service and food quality they would have a winning combination.
The food was typical McMennimans, basic but flavorful. The food was very slow in coming even though they didn't seem super busy. Server was attentive and apologetic for the wait. The new facility is nice and was fun to explore.
We ate on the patio. Amazing view! Servers were attentive, service was quick. It was a great experience!
Found everything to our standards and enjoyed our dinner very much.
Great view of the River! One thing that I have heard before...food takes 30+ minutes to get to the table.
The usual mediocre Mcmenamin's food, but in a beautiful space. The was food on the floor under our table when we sat down that was never removed. We never received our appetizer, and my food was not prepared as I had requested. The server made a good effort and the manager apologized. We should have just stayed up on the rooftop bar where we started- beautiful view and very professional service.
Our party of 4 had good water view seats and a very good waitress. She refreshed our wine glasses which was a nice touch. The ambiance is great and a good addition to the area!
We normally have drinks and food up at the bar top but we had our son with us, so we sat in dinning room and the service was awful. Food was lacking and our server didn’t even know how to open our bottle of wine! Ugh.
The Cajun taters were the best!! Would have liked a ranch refill before they got cold. Was difficult to get ahold of a waiter, but they were very friendly.
It took over an hour to get our food ... the waitress did keep coming back and saying it wouldn't be too much longer - but it was. Kitchen seems to be understaffed or just poorly run. Food was mediocre. The service was ok but we won't be going back. Compared to the food and service at the new McMenamins Elk Temple Lodge in Tacoma this one is basically just a hotel and a pub. Nothing special.
You go for the views.
My sister and I enjoyed brunch here on 5/18/2019.
We had reservations, and we were seated at a very comfortable table with a view of the river.
We had grapefruit mimosas that did the trick without feeling like we needed more than 1.
I had toast and lox, the lox was tasty, the poached eggs were overcooked and oddly uniformly shaped.
On my server's recommendation I ordered a scone to share. It was fantastic. So moist with butter.
I'll definitely go again and take some time to tour the grounds.
Poor service good food waited 20-30minutes for the bill
Fun to watch the river. Food is good but not "knock your socks off " good. If you don't get delayed by a train crossing getting to the lodge it is a nice experience.
Fantastic view. Service was poor. We had reservations and asked for an outdoor table and were told “no”. Not given an option to wait for a table. Then once seated could see several open tables outdoor. They must have been low on staff because there was no clear reason why those tables weren’t being seated. In any event why not put your resources toward the patio. It was a beautiful and warm day.
Doubt I will return but it is a great setting.
It was worth the drive. Had a nice dinner and really appreciated the lack of noise and clatter that is at most restaurants. Beautiful setting.
