McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge
I'm mixed on if I would recommend to a friend. For the ambiance & outside experience, YES! For the food & service, not so much. I had read that service was slow & was prepared for this, but we waited for a bit after we got water for our server to return to take our order & then waited over 30-40 min for our food. When it did come, the fries were limp & warm & I felt strongly that our order had been sitting under the heat lamps for awhile. Not impressed on that end. May try again, but not holding out for great expectations!
We love Kalama Harbor Lodge. The reasons I gave it 4 stars is because: 1) I found a hair in my eggs and couldn't finish them; and 2) the mimosa's were not as expected - watery and barely any orange juice - we asked for more OJ, but only got a tiny bit more. The mimosas are not worth the $10 each. We were celebrating a college graduation and a 29th birthday and our server was so sweet. The view was fantastic, the staff was nice, and the ambiance environment was great!
Your hotels are so fun. You were so full however, that I didn’t get the room I wanted, but the one I stayed in was lovely just the same. Check in and check out, greeted by such nice people
Dinner was at first not so good. The steak was ordered to be medium to rare on the more rare side, and was delivered pretty much well done. We didn’t eat it and honestly we decided not to complain about it, but your amazing waitress noticed we didn’t eat it. She took it back and brought us a new steak that was much better. Kudos to your waitress for making our dinner a much better experience.
Our dining experience was great! Food was good as was the service. We enjoyed our evening very much!
Dined for lunch. Food was good, but a bit pricey. A roll or sliced bread would have made it much better. Waitress came by a couple of times but never offered to refill our waters. Waitress was very friendly and the food arrived within a very reasonable time, and all together, 4 of us. We will go again.
It took far to long for our food to be served (again). The portions of food compared to cost per dish is way over priced. My wife and I have been to the restaurant twice now and in each case the overall experience has been the same. We will not be going back and I certainly would not recommend the restaurant to anyone. Not worth the money or time.
All the Mcmenamins are great! The cloud bar on the 4th floor of this location is my favorite! Love it here!!
Well the dinner menu in my opinion was lacking many choices. We were thinking seafood fettuccine, but unfortunately they were unable to accommodate us. We settled for pizza which was good, but nothing special for a Christmas Dinner.
We had a fantastic time in a very nice venue. I hope that the next time we go the sun will be up and clouds parted so we can enjoy the view. It is a bit spendy but for a special occasion, I would highly recommend it.
Thanks for making my mother's birthday special! We had a lovely time!
We made reservations for Thanksgiving Day. Didn’t see that Open Table and the resort website made mention that it was a buffet (Turkey and all the fixin’s). Sides were in chafing dishes, but cold. Turkey and gravy was very good.
This location and the grounds are so cool and interesting. Will definitely go back when we visit our friends living in Kalama.
Our first trip to this location and a very pleasant one it was. After it first opened, we heard they got off on a bad start. It was no surprise that they would get the kinks ironed out and that they did, we had a wonderful time.
We always enjoy McMenamins and they did a fantastic job with decor and ambiance at Kalama Harbor Lodge. Very fun to visit. Music was a little louder than we like it.
Our first experience there was great, this last time... not so much. Our waitresses took over 30 minutes to get our order in, and up to an hour to actually get our food. We had multiple waitresses, that didn't seem too personal or attentive to the customers. The servers were great and more helpful then the actual waitresses. We talked to someone after the service we received, and the first thing out of her mouth was I hope you're not looking to get compensated.... like really, you're lucky I still paid.
Our food was really good by the time it arrived. Service was extremely slow. We sat for 20 min waiting for our server to arrive. She did apologize but then wasn’t very attentive throughout the remainder of our visit. Still, she was very friendly. But our time is valuable too.
I paid $15 for the special, Chicken with Blueberries, cucumbers and cucumber dressing (?). The lettuce was wilty and soggy, the dressing WAY too much and the serving size was pretty small for the price.
The room was fairly dark, not enough bright lighting and the noise level made it hard for me to hear my friend when she was speaking.
Overall, I think it was overpriced.
IT would have been nice to have had a view of the water, since we were celebrating our 20th Anniversary. Just like any other McMenamins as far as atmosphere goes.
Don't go there for the food or the service. While the server did her best they were obviously short of staff. 30 minutes from when we were seated to when our drink order came. The food was typical McMenamin's mediocre food. Stick with the burger selection and you will be fine. A very nice building and atmosphere overshadowed by mediocre food and service.
With reservations, we waited over an hour for breakfast. The food arrived very cold and poorly prepared . $77 dollars for 4 people for breakfast, not oncluding the tip.
We waited more than an hour for food
Burger and tots. Thats ridiculous
The views are amazing and so was the food, we will be back for sure.
Great view sitting on the Columbia River. But you can sit by the river for free and not spend money for bad food and terrible service. We spent 3 nights in a different McMenamins and they do not care about the quality of their food or their service. You would think witj the amount of money the brothers have made that they would serve some decent food and have sone standards for their servers..
Lunch was an amazing delight! I made reservations through Open Table and requested a table outside overlooking the river. We were seated immediately. Our server was efficient and polite. We were celebrating a birthday and he wished the birthday girl a very happy birthday, which delighted her. I had the Brewer Salad, it was wonderful and the added grilled chicken was cooked to perfection. Lunch was served in a very timely manner which delighted me because I was prepared for a long wait. I'll definitely go back there for lunch. I'd love to stay there in a room overlooking the beautiful Columbia River. Our lunch was delightful, and watching the ships pass was spectacular. Anyone waiting a good meal, great drinks and likes the water would love having lunch at the Kalama Lodge.
It was our first visit & we enjoyed lunch in the pub. We waited about 45 minutes for our meal, but I we weren’t in a hurry. Fun place & very popular.
We had a great time! The Cod was amazing and so was the goat cheese appetizer.
We had a great evening
Busy on Friday night. Reservations a must. Nice view of river.
It was a little noisy but that was due to the young men sitting at the table next to us.... they were talking over each other and got louder and louder.
French fries were OK... a little oily but good taste.
Salad, clam and chowder were excellent
The view is extraordinary but the food was okay. When you sit outside, you get served by the outside kitchen, which does not cook chicken! So odd! We’ve had better food at other locations. The waitress was friendly and attentive.
Food was outstanding. Service was great. When making the reservation I asked I hoped for a window table and we didn’t get one. The group before us and so did the group after us.
Food delivery takes way too long but is getting better. Servers and food are great!
Mushy fries, even after we complained and they tried again.
Slow service. No one came to our table after 10 mi it’s wait.
The lodge is very nice. We were there for dinner. The service was great once we got seated. There was a "wait to be seated" sign at the desk but there was no one there to help seat customers (waited at least 3 minutes). So we found the people we were meeting. The food was good but a bit overcooked. The service staff at our table was great!
Really nice view in the outdoor patio, the only downside is the menu is different, limited for picky people haha.
Sitting outside was delightful. Great view and our waiter was attentive and kind.
This is a review for the restaurant only. I wanted to like McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge and had high hopes that this restaurant, beautifully located on the Columbia River, would satisfy. Unfortunately, the food and service lacked the culinary punch that one expects. Firstly, the service was rushed and our server looked flustered and overworked. Perhaps she had too many tables to do her job well, and with a smile. The wait for the food bordered on ridiculous and arrived barely warm--most likely not the servers fault. The food we ordered was standard pub fare that has the potential to be fun and tasty. It was neither. Deschutes Brewery in Portland gets it right. Were McMenamins Kalama to pattern their restaurant after Deschutes Brewery both in customer service and food quality they would have a winning combination.
The food was typical McMennimans, basic but flavorful. The food was very slow in coming even though they didn't seem super busy. Server was attentive and apologetic for the wait. The new facility is nice and was fun to explore.
We ate on the patio. Amazing view! Servers were attentive, service was quick. It was a great experience!
Found everything to our standards and enjoyed our dinner very much.
