McMenamins Elks Temple
Waiter was excellent. Very accomidating. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Poor service, lousy food (substandard for cost), WELL BELOW expectations, very disappointed!!!
The newly re~opened McMenamins historic Elks Temple in Tacoma is amazing and fun. With an assortment of entertaining pubs and venues to choose from a stay overnight or a meal at Elks Temple pub is enjoyable.
However, the dinner service is struggling at this time. There is a learning curve that will hopefully smooth out soon. The following is our recent experience at Elks Temple. There were 4 in our dinner party. After we were re~seated it took about 30 minutes to receive our drinks once ordered. We also ordered dinner and the meals were not served all at the same time. I had to ask the waiter to remedy this which he did graciously but should not have occurred to begin with. Also, I made our dinner reservations in advance requesting a larger window booth or table looking out over the water but that request was not honored.
I had to ask to be moved because we were initially seated in the bar area and people had to squeeze around us and we would have to scoot our chairs back and forth to accommodate people as they passed by.. which was constant! The shining star was our waiter. He was struggling with the kitchen and was apparently having a challenge communicating with them. The dinner experience was unorganized, uncomfortable and unfortunate but we recognized that our waiter had outstanding customer service and was placed in a difficult situation. Perhaps they need stronger management and better training overall in the restaurant area.
My husband and I spent the night and had breakfast in the same restaurant the following morning and it was a completely different experience. It was lovely!
Seating, food service and waitress all outstanding.
I hope the dinner staff and the overall customer service in the restaurant during the dinner service vastly improves and if and when it does I would definitely give it 5 stars!
Go. Just go. If you are a fan of McMenamins' other restored historic properties, this one will not disappoint. I was very glad we had reservations, as the wait for a table for 4 without one was over an hour. There are several bars tucked away in other places in the building where you could easily grab a beverage while you wait for a table. Weather permitting, there is even some outside seating. Just don't go without reservations if you have time constraints. Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed the food. We will be back.
Service was ok, our waiter forgot to order us one of our items, but it was corrected pretty quickly. Then he gave us the wrong bill, oops! Nice guy, but not all with it.
Great breakfast food. I thought the Mimosa and Bellini was rather high priced. Good meal and fun day.
Loved the atmosphere. Service was good but bit slow and had to ask for steak knife twice. Good food at reasonable prices but honestly was expecting better to match the environment
The waitress asked how I wanted my salmon. Told her medium rare to medium. Came out super well done and dry
Very slow service and not a wide variety of food. Drinks and wine were very expensive and nothing to write home about. Very disappointed.
Rory did a great job along with the staff. Will come again.
They need to start lunch earlier than noon. Wanted a burger & could not get one @ 11:30 am.
Very cool restaurant and business and the food was delicious.
Something interesting to see in almost every square inch of this beautifully restored old Elks lodge. So cool to see a magnificent building brought back to life in such a vibrant way after sitting vacant for over 60 years. Took my parents who are pushing 80 years old. They said "this is kind of like going to the fun house." Six floors of funky art, themed bars and fantastic views. I can't wait to go back. One trip barely scratches the surface.
First time having a meal here. Loved it. The food was super tasty. We each shared some of our meal with each other. All good!
My only disappointment was learning that there are no rooms for private events. Look forward to hopefully seeing that change in the future.
This was our second breakfast here. When we visited the first time, we attributed long waits and snafus to the fact that they had only been open for about six weeks. Now, a month later, it is clear they are still feeling their way through things. Our server seemed overwhelmed. The bar was changing CO2 tanks, so we would need to wait for sodas. We asked several times but, apparently, the tanks were never changed. Food is ok but it pales in comparison to the beautiful decor. Sure, we’ll probably try them again... hoping they fix the little problems along the way.
The room is beautiful, the drinks are great and the service was good... BUT... the food is mediocre at best. I'm sure the regular McMenamins pub fair is good but all the dishes particular to this location that I've tried have been not very good (I ate less than half despite being starving)
Great vibe and lots of potential. The Spanish bar was cold-doors open and air conditioning running. Not a lot of great entree choices-there are three of four different place to eat and drink and other than the Pub, they only serve snack food and the pub serves...pub food.
It’s a great place to hangout and have drinks
Great option for social meeting with friends or family in Tacoma. All of the usual special Mcmenamins trademarks.
Grandsons first birthday
From the time we walked in, to the time we checked out our experience was great. There was an error in our reservations but the front desk was able to make things right. Two thumbs up! Excellent food and super dinning staff. I loved that we were able to make dinner reservation on line. Being able to do this made our day run smooth. The cost of the rooms were a bit high but the perks, great staff, cool gift shop, and convenient location balance everything out. Thanks to the whole staff at Mcmenamins.
Went for my mothers 70th birthday. Bummed we got seated in a dark what seemed like an overflow area with no view, even though I made reservations. Did ask about a better view but none available. Food was ok, got tots with my sandwich and were swimming in grease, too much to eat. But the brussel sprouts were awesome! Service was ok. The waiter seemed like he didn't want to be there and we had a lot of dirty plates and empty cups . Drinks were great.
Fun experience! Good food, good service and such an amazing experience!
What a fun restaurant to visit! Exploring around the entire facility is encouraged! The food was awesome at a great price as well. There was a band there that we spent some time listening to and that was also very nice . Can’t wait to spend the night here sometime!
Fun spot to wonder around after lunch. However, the music in the Temple Pub was so load during lunch I couldn't hear the person sitting across from me.
We asked for a specific table and got it. The view was great, the service top notch and the food tasty!
What a fun environment. Stayed at the hotel and then invited friends to meet for breakfast.
Stunning views and fine fare.
The Pub is a good food venue, but make sure to check out all seven floors of this beautifully restored Elks club!
Our first McMenamins experience. Fun place to eat. Staff was struggling with kitchen turnover from breakfast to lunch, so we waited over an hour for food. Typical pub food offerings, but hit the spot. Our waitress was very gracious.
The food was so so. We had breakfast, the French toast seemed a little too crunchy. And there was a hair in it (no one came and addressed that) The bacon was good. My husband liked his meal. And my friend liked her breakfast sandwich.
Service was extremely slow, took 15 minutes before we could even order coffee. Another 15 minutes before we could order food. And then that took about 45 minutes to get.
The server was very nice and polite. Mabel new and definitely overworked
Fun setting. Good food, but it was quite a wait from order in to be served the meal
We were interested in seeing the inside of the new McMenamins Elks Lodge and it did not disappoint. Amazing decor and artwork.
Our waiter was new to brunch service so there were a few challenges but the food was worth it.
I love that McMenimins takes unused historic buildings and turns them into a thriving restaurants and bars in the city. The atmosphere was great, the food yummy and the service was supreme. Fun place to go as a couple, a family or on a date! Bravo McMenimins!
So much fun to explore! We enjoyed looking at all the art and creative design. Had a blast and looking forward to coming back!
Entertaining atmosphere, well prepared food. Menu is limited but presentation is great.
We come here fairly often and tonight the service was the best we’ve had. Tony was excellent!
Ruined my friends birthday! Food was terrible and cold. Was excited we live in Tacoma and have waited for years for someone to fix up the Elks. Building was nice everything thing else was terrible!!!
Like all the Mcmenamins, they have done a lot of fun, quirky things to make the atmosphere fun! The service was quite good, food pretty good as well, and with several different floors and restaurants to choose from, make it an enjoyable experience!
It McMenamins...have to go see the decorations and what their vision is for all the recycled buildings they have repurposed. Tacoma no different too much to look at in one visit. Food ok...could have been served warmer but tasted great. Service was friendly and appropriate. Table location for our party was perfect all in all what I expected and will return to explore a bit more
Tuna salad sandwich was just okay - would not reorder.
Everyone in this area should go to McMenamins just once just to see the fabulous renovation. Walk through all the floors and try to see a guest room (well, they're not all that special). Very eclectic decor and wonderful original art everywhere. Food is basic American comfort. Props to the 'tater tots which were very hot and crispy.
Great place, but not cheap..
Good customer service beginning with getting reservations (4th floor dinning), check in and especially our waiter (Adam, I think). The food is OK (a step above bar food)--nothing to come back for but the ambiance and wait service made it a memorable time--especially the deserts which were comped because of a minor issue we noted. We will encourage others to try this place.
