McLoone's Boat House Ratings and Reviews
We have often diner at McCloon’s Long Branch, but had not tried the West Orange location prior to our December 12th outing. What a wonderful evening! Roaring fires were ablaze in several dining areas. The restaurant is beautiful, yet casual. We were promptly seated at a table that had a lovely waterfront view. Our server was so friendly and was very knowledgeable about the menu. Our food was brought to the table at a perfect pace-we were not rushed, nor did we have an opportunity to become too hungry. There was always someone at the ready to refill our drinks.
The food was delicious. Each of the members of our party was greatly satisfied with their choice. I highly recommend this restaurant. Our family plans to return during the holiday season. I’m so glad it’s close enough to our home to be frequented regularly. What a great find!
I did NOT enjoy my first and last experience here. It was my 30th birthday. There was 12 people in my party, everyone arrived by 830 and our orders were placed shortly after, however, we did not receive our food until 935. It is unacceptable that we had to wait that long, no one came and explained what was going on with our orders or offered us additional bread or water while we waited. We requested a manager who was very rude and not accommodating at all. Also, my food was packaged to go and I left it on the table to take pictures because it was my birthday. My food was thrown away, no member of staff bothered to confirm if someone had left their food accidentally before throwing it away. I will NEVER come back or recommend this place.
What a terrible dining experience. Had a 5:30PM dinner reservation for 8. Arrive on time and told table is not ready - another party will not get up. Another large party comes in after us - a walk in - and gets seated in a side area of the bar. We inquire why we were not offered that and they had no explanation. They proceed to sit us next to this other larger party in that area. However, they delay our food because we were the second party sat and it was just a comedy of bad service. An hour and a half later we get our food. Very little apology and terrible addressing of the issue by management. A small token discount on what should have been a comped meal. We will not return and do not recommend you go either. Save your money.
My expectations were very high, and I was disappointed beyond belief. Granted, 3pm on a Sunday may not be the best time to visit, but it was as if they stopped trying. After the brunch buffet. The food was subpar. My sons hotdog looked as if it was pulled from an Oscar Meyer package and microwaved. My daughters chicken fingers were burnt. Our meals were appitizer portions. I’ve been to their catered events without complaint. They should either close between brunch and dinner, or step it up.
They got our order wrong, the mash potato's were cold and had to be sent back and the asparagus was also cold and my ribs were luke warm but I keep them because I was tired of waiting. We were seated next to the Servers Station where four waiters/waitresses would gather... you could my waitress coughing and then coming right back out to the floor. Young man was standing there playing in his hair and twisting little dreads or braids and went right out to a table to attend to a family across from us. NIETHER WASHED THEIRS HANDS!!!! For the price I paid for the evening this is unacceptable. The best thin of the evening other than the ambiance was the Sangria.... Pretty Sad
We had a luncheon at McLoone's Boathouse to celebrate our aunt's 93rd birthday. I especially want to thank our server (I don't remember her name; please look it up), because she was so attentive and enthusiastic that she really made the occasion even more special.
Terrible! Went for Thanksgiving and our Anniversary. Was expecting a lovely evening.
Table and floor were filthy.
No set up on table, dirty glasses. Buffet was horrible. Turkey was to the bone, only few slices of less than desirable meat left on the side. Other buffet item co trainers empty or dried up.
Looked more like messy left overs gone bad.
Waiter never came to check on us or clear away plafonner plates or utensils until we asked for pur check.
When I read other reviews of overpriced food and poor service, I was concerned. We went on a Monday night so it wasn't overcrowded. There was a nice wood fire to add a great ambiance to a cold night. The restaurant is very attractive. In the summer, when you can see the water, it would probably be even better. I have to agree with several reviews: The food was only ok and the price was relatively high in NJ for the quantity and quality. E.g., $40 for 2 small crab cakes. The $20 Monday night burger special was a good deal. The service was ok but with some oddities. E.g., the special included beer or wine. We'd first ordered a bottle of wine. The server somehow thought he shouldn't bring the beer or wire included in the meal price. Overall, I'd go again but not on any regular basis. The noise level was good because there was no crowd.
We've returned to McLoone's several times because it offers a nice menu and presentation and is close to home. I imagine we would return once in a while if it was further away because the location (next to county park, reservoir, and walking path) There is a fabulous outdoor dining but always crowded so we haven't chosen to wait. Two of us had fish entrees the other night and enjoyed them, and a French chardonnay.
This restaurant has a fantastic view...My party of 3 were here on a Saturday night around 830pm...it wasnt busy at all however we waited over 40min for our food and it wasnt hot or flavorful...i didnt want to send anything back for fear of the kitchen doing something gross to it...A man in a suit (maybe the manager, he didnt introduce himself) was going to each table asking about the food and overall experience...when we told him it took too long for the food to come out he didnt say anything, he didnt apologize or give an explanation, he just strugg his shoulders and went to the next table...It was an awful experience. I will not be going back or referring anybody that i know to go there
Went for drinks and appetizers and the hear the music of Jake and the Mayor. Stayed for 2 sets; excellcent cover of a variety of songs from different eras. The Seafood sampler was excellent. Clams, oysters, shrimp and crab were as fresh as can be. The wings had just the right amount of sweet and hot. McLoone's never fails to please.
I've eaten here before and always sat on the left side of the restaurant and found it lovely. On Sat. nite we were seated on the right side and found it very disappointing. it was loud and very gloomy. We felt like we were in a cafeteria. No ambience.
Prior to eating , we did sit outside for appetizers and it was abslolutely perfect. Waiter service was excellent.
This was my family's first time dining at McLoone's The restaurant is quite large, with different rooms, and also offers outdoor dining and a great outdoor space for cocktails, etc. with a fire pit. It has great space for private parties, etc. In fact, there was a wedding reception taking place in a private room while we were there. Everyone agreed that food was good, but felt the menu was a little overpriced. However, the portions are big. The service was outstanding. We didn't feel rushed, but never had to search for our server when needed. The restaurant has a good selections of cocktails and an extensive wine list, as well.
Went there for pre-theatre and waitress was attentive and put order in right away. Very noisy and crowded bar at entrance, but DR was cozy w fireplace going and comfortable, much quieter. Food was over-priced but OK -good for the most part, altho my $32.00 raw seafood sampler had very small-sized clams and oysters and the shrimps were overcooked and dry. The side salad was nothing special, MINISCULE w only some greens and a few chopped veggies, not worth $6.00. My meal was > $50 !
Would go there again for drinks, maybe some bar food, cause ambience and setting are really nice. But food was quite ordinary and very pricey for its quality and quantity.
We went to McLoone's for their Sunday brunch to celebrate my mother's birthday. While I think the buffet option was a little pricey ($35), there was a rich variety of food from an omelette station to pasta and a raw bar. They were able to accommodate our party of seven plus two children without a problem. I was slightly disappointed when the waitress told my mother that her birthday cake was in the back. It was supposed to be a surprise. However, it was an honest mistake.
Unfortunately we were disappointed with our visit. Food was very expensive and only fair. Service was terrible. We ate outside, and the ambiance was beautiful then it got cool and windy. We planned to sit outside by the fire pit after dinner, but then when we got outside, there were several smokers of cigarettes and cigars, and made it uncomfortable for a non-smoker. Ended up leaving early. The place is probably best for a happy hour drink and maybe an appetizer.
The hostess didn’t treat us like we had a reservation and made us wait along with guests who just walked in. She never told us how long it would be for a table to be ready. We were on a time schedule so we wound up sitting at the bar, which we could have done w/o a reservation and w/ o waiting for the hostess to figure out where to seat us. Won’t be returning.
Waitress was friendly but brought the desert tray when we said we didn't want to see it. She said she had to show it to us anyway. Drinks were awful, Bloody Mary not even half drank. Food was good but portions were very, very skimpy. Not even a handful of fries and about a handful of calamari appetizer for 5 of us.
If not for the beautiful view of the lake I would not recommend.
Went on a Monday night in early October the restaurant was not crowded. Received outstanding service from our waiter, Woody. Food was ok, not bad, not great. My only complaint is that the music is too loud in main dining area. Will visit again when weather is warmer to enjoy the outdoor seating area.
McLoone's is a new addition to Essex County with regards to the updates made to the parks in the South Mountain Reservation area. The food is good with many selections in appetizers, entrees - both seafood and meat and cocktails. Eating outside is very nice if the weather is warm and inside if you are near the fireplace. The restaurant is quite noisy so if you want an intimate setting ask for a table far away from others.
We did not like our server who seemed like she did not want to be there. I know everyone has an "off" night but it seemed all the waiters were like that. And our hostess was not friendly.
We had a lovely time at McCloones. We received a gift card, which is why we made the reservation. I had read some negative reviews about refills on water, waiting long for food, etc. Our waitress, Marsala, greeted us right away, brought water and bread came out right away, soups, salads and appetizers came out in the order we asked for, she kept refilling water, etc. The food was excellent. Our table had a lovely view of the water and the ducks. It is obviously a family place, so it is a little louder, but it's happy noise. Cant wait to bring our grandchildren there after a game of Mini-golf!
