Food was excellent! The ambiance was very cozy and comfortable. The view was great as well. The service was decent but a bit slow.
Can I rate this MINUS 5 stars? Upon walking in, the place looked filthy. Then we are met by the most arrogant lady at reception at 12:50 for a 1PM brunch reservation. Our table for 5 was not ready. At 1:30, she still says she has no table for us. Annoyed at her condescending attitude, we question how our 1PM table is not available. Fortunately, another reception person took the time to find a table, which she immediately did from among many that were available.
Walking past the brunch buffet chafing dishes, we saw sloppy, dirty looking presentations that quite honestly made any appetite disappear. Our table was next to a large party that were screaming at the top of their lungs and carrying on as though they were the only people in the place. The nasty lady at reception, the dirty looking "ambiance" of the restaurant, the un-appetizing food display and the out of control clientele made this one of the worst places we have ever gone to. Yes, we got up after 2 minutes and walked out.
To Tim McCloone, you have spread yourself too thin. Or maybe you just don't care? As a long time patron, we remember you playing piano at your one place on Saturday nights. If you care at all about maintaining a favorable reputation as a restauranteur, you need to clean up the Boat House in West Orange/Millburn in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. Structure, Personnel and Food Presentation. Couldn't even comment on your food. We couldn't bring ourselves to make it that far.
We went to celebrate a birthday, had to wait about 20 minutes for two people even with a reservation. Other than that an overall nice experience.
Originally made reservation because the weather was supposed to be so beautiful. We had to push it back to 7:30 PM and by that time the temperature had dropped by 25°. That made the seating challenging because people couldn’t sit outside. They made up for a little bit of a wait with excellent service once we got seated and delicious food. It was a very enjoyable dinner.
There’s nothing worse than not being seated more than 30 minutes after a reservation ... unless then the apps are more than one hour on arrival ... and then when they arrive are really not good ... and then blame it all on the backed up kitchen. This is a place to avoid at all costs ... unless of course you just don’t care ...
Exceedingly poor food. Our server told us there were no specials, yet we heard the table behind us being given a comprehensive list of the available specials. I ordered the cod which turned out to be very dry. When I addressed this with the staff, they checked with the chef and they offered to cook it even more, stating that the fish would become softer as it cooked more. They did not offer to replace the dish or any other attempt at compensation. Very dissatisfied with the food and service received.
Server did not check on us to see how we were doing so was not able to ask for another drink. No one refilled our waters either.
Then we have a member who is allergic to croutons and asked for a salad without croutons. Came back loaded with croutons. Took it back after finally being able to flag a server down and again replaced meal but again with croutons. GM said he was going to personally make salad himself and take care of this off the bill but again croutons were added. My wife and I recommended this to our friends because we came once and enjoyed our Sunday brunch but this was complete 180. Had to wait forever and if we didn’t flag server down we’d still be waiting plus we have a 6 month old with us.
It was very disappointing. Even when my wife ordered a drink the server came back after taking order to say they don’t have that drink but their getting it. Don’t know how long that can take so wife ordered a second beverage. Then had to ask for extra cutlery. Overall just a very negative experience which was disappointing.
I dine here probably once per year now. I went more often when they first opened. I would love to go more! Its beautiful, the location is good and its spacious, but I have never, ever had a good meal or good service. Even with 5:30 pm reservations we waited for 20 minutes to be seated. The dining room was a mess but with tables open. It took 15 minutes just to get our drink order taken. The server was harried, and came back 3-4 times to drop off water, place settings, the last water for our table, a fork, a plate, etc before even taking our dinner order. There were 6 of us, we ordered 2 caesar salads, 1 cobb salad, 1 burger, 2 margarita flatbreads, 1 order of edamame, 1 shrimp cocktail and 1 spinach artichoke dip. Nothing complicated, we said just bring it out whenever it was ready, didn't have to be all together. It took another 40 minutes after we placed the order. The caesar salads, spinach dip, edamame and burger were fine. The Cobb was missing items from the menu description and the flat bread Margarita pizzas were inedible. They were soggy with so much cheese and sauce that they were a mushy mess that you could eat with a spoon. The best thing was the shrimp cocktail. It was standard but the shrimp was done nicely. Finally around 7:45, we flagged down the server for the check, we had to make a show. So over 2 hours and over $300 for salads, flatbreads and a burger. Restating, I would LOVE this place to be better, I wish something would change!
Staff were flustered and sort of rude. The wine I ordered was no in stock I guess and they just brought me a different more expensive glass without asking and then charged me for the more expensive wine I hadn’t ordered but was just given. Had to ask for that to be changed and it was. Just felt kind of scammy. Food was delicious though and the view is great. Just don’t be in any sort of hurry and check the bill and you should have a nice time
I ordered the beat salad, they gave me the wrong salad. We waited over a half an hour for drinks which is unacceptable. Service was lousy. I’ve been there many times before and service was never like that. I didn’t go on Saturday I went on Sunday and it wasn’t even crowded. It was a dreary day. Outside was closed. We did see a manager behind the bar speaking with staff.. looks like they were having a meeting of some sort. OMG! Stay safe
The food was delicious! It was cozy sitting by the fireplace. The live entertainment, October Rose was awesome! I'd go back to heat them again.
It’s close to the zoo, so touristy. Good ambiance, great service.
Always enjoy going here. Closes place to work. Nice place to take a client or date.
Average food Menu needs an update.
We celebrated my moms birthday here on Sunday. Service was okay- we had two waiters who helped our table although didn't get our orders correct. I asked for dressing on the side and it wasn't. My husband ordered a sandwich that came with greens which he specifically asked for and he got fries instead. We also went in the beginning of April and they didn't have spring/summer beers yet.
I really wanted for them to be good. I love the location of this place, they changed now chef and food tasted much better than in the past. The main problem continues to be the service. There are just not enough waiters. Their waiter to tables ratio is wrong, therefore the waiter can come to your table every 30 mins. Our waitress was good, she really tried, but is management here to blame.
We were at the local zoo and decided to eat dinner out at the last minute. We made a reservation just in case and we’re seated within 2 minutes of arrival. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food was outstanding! I would highly recommend McLoone’s.
Great salads, nice server, manager nicely stopped by tables to ask how everyone was doing.
We had my birthday lunch at McLoon’s Boat House. The service was very good. The food wasn’t great. My husband had a burger said it was thin, and no taste.
I had a salad and the lettuce was wilted. We had ice cream for dessert which was fantastic.
easter buffet had great options but everything was cold cold cold!!! for the price that's just unacceptable.
I really loved the ambiance of this restaurant. We arrived early for our reservation and they had no problem seating us. We made the reservation ahead for my birthday and they provided us a wonderful table with a great view of the water. The manager was wonderful.
Our waitress was impatient and not very skilled. She didn't offer us a specials menu and seemed inconvenienced by us because we were a young couple. The dining room was full of families that had clearly spent the day at the local zoo. I understand that could get frustrating, but it felt like it was being taken out on us...
Great location. The food is very good.
The place was nice, the staff was fabulous. Our waitress amazing. We had the drunken mussels app - soooo good omg but the dinner... pardon if I’m being picky but the fish and chips, the fish was dry and smothered in the beer batter. In other words...more batter than fish. And the chips were good - the Ly seasoned the fries deliciously. I had the special penne bolognese - it was okay. Admittedly the meat was a little visibly burnt and so it made the sauce taste burnt but the pasta itself was cooked to perfection. I’d probably go back, but I think the dinner menu would be better than the lunch menu offerings. The staff, the apps and the wine will be the reason I come back to try their dinner. Til next time I suppose...
Great ambiance and with an amazing view of the lake. Great service too.
Beautiful restaurant for a nice dinner.
McLoone's was Wonderful! Such a bountiful brunch spread and literally the Best waitress I have ever had!
We went for Sunday brunch and it was perfect! The view is great and the brunch had everything we were looking for. I would definitely go again.
Everything was great but I thought the brunch was very pricy.
Decent brunch. Good Bloody Mary. Bar lively!
Very good and served in good time.
Very noisy--difficult to have a conversation with friends.
Though we had a large group of 8 people, we had the best waiter! He took such good care of us, I hope he is there the next time that we go.
The restaurant was beautiful, the staff perfectly trained. The food was alright, nothing was wrong it was just alright. For the price I expected better: larger portions, bolder flavors.
So the key tell for me, would we go back, it wouldn't be our first choice in the area.
Really nice Monday evening anniversary dinner. Attentive staff and beautiful fillet steak.
Very friendly staff!
Love the new menu rotation. The new chef is phenomenal as well!
Went to this restaurant with my wife on date night. While the food was good, we both felt that the food was not good enough for the prices they charged. We very much enjoyed our calamari appetizer, but other than that, the food did not particularly stand out. Bottom line, we probably would not go back.
Great place for dinner, we sat by the fireplace during the snowstorm. It was amazing ambiance with a view of the water. There was live music which was a pleasant surprise. The new menu was awesome!
I can't wait to go back.
