we have had many birthday lunches here. unfortunately today something was off. the salads were just fair. we ask yo swap the steak for shrimp on the mckendricks salad. we got 2 shrimp. the chicken was difficult to eat in the caesar and the person eating the salmon salad said it was butter and drenched in dressing. oh well an off day. the birthday dessert was dry and not very good. our service was good but the meal was a real disappointment.
Great food. Great drinks. Awesome service!! Thanks Amber.
Went for valentines day dinner with fiancé, I had the filet, he had the NY strip, wow. Very well seasoned, cooked perfectly. Garlic mashed amazinggg, we will be back!
Excellent dinner to celebrate our daughter's birthday!
The waiter was excellent, as well as the food. Wish we’d had a booth. Ambiance unimaginative.
Caesar salad was dry, Brussels were steamed not grilled as most fine steak houses so make sure that is what your looking for. Steak was good but not top of the list
Nice and romantic place. The waiter seemed anxious and ready to move on from our table. I ordered the Porterhouse lamb chops, but they brought out this huge Porterhouse steak that was to pink for my blood. I did try it, didn't eat all of it, but because it was already late, I just took it to go. The Brussels sprouts and macaroni was good. I feel like the waiter could have been more attentive.
The only good part of our entire meal from the drinks to the dessert was the grouper . Very disappointed with the food and the service. Nothing had any flavor ...
I had heard about the place, decided to try and went on Valentine's day @ 6:15 reservation. Felt stuffed in a back room. Food was great...but would say that there are many other choices with a nicer atmosphere for what we paid. Perhaps this was the place back in the day.
Food and service were both fantastic!
McKendrick’s is a delight. From the greeter at the door, to the bartender, to the manager, you are made welcome. Paul Leonard has been our favorite waiter for years. He’s both professional and personable. Steaks are perfect when served; sides are delicious and large enough to share. You can choose spinach three or four different tasty ways — we prefer the creamed or garlic. Tables are positioned far enough apart so you don’t have to whisper conversation. I think that’s why it is superior to other Atlanta steakhouses that almost herd you in. We’ll be back soon!
Have had better service and better food here before. Don’t think the new chef is filling Tom’s shoes yet!
We have been dining at McKendrick's for over 20 years and it is always our "go to" restaurant for fine dining and a great time. The staff are second to none; you wont be disappointed! It is one or our favorite restaurants, period.
Excellent food and service!
My wife’s birthday, party of 12 and we were very happy with our wait staff as well as the food👌🏾
We arrived for our last minute. late reservation, on time. We were seated promptly. Our requested server had gone for the night, but our server (ALL service) was excellent! One entree had to be returned as its was cold and slightly dry. A new entree was prepared quickly and at perfect doneness. We enjoyed great food and a wonderful time! Thank you!
Great food great service and a great atmosphere!!!
While the meal overall was okay, it wasn’t at the usual high Mckendricks standards. Our server was admittedly new. Which we were fine with. But the order taking was very slow and big chunks of time went by without seeing him.
Our crab cakes were okay. Our server said that it didn’t come with anything. So my mom and I ordered an asparagus side. When our crab cakes came out each plate had 3 asparagus with it. So we didn’t really need to order the asparagus and hollandaise. He apologized for the error and took it off of our bill. Again, the food was adequate. Just didn’t have the “wow” factor tat I’m used to there.
McKendricks was a destination for special occasions for me. So special was the restaurant to me that I haven't had THAT kind of reason to go in over 15 years. When I went last night, I was so excited to re-live the service, ambiance, food, and deserts.
I can't tell, though, if the experience has declined significantly or my tastes have increased significantly. But it's not what it was. The service - mediocre, nothing special. The food - I would RAVE about the crab cakes before. Now, I can't anymore. The steaks were tender but at $60 a pop, they better be. The sides. The SIDES? They used to be the best part of the meal. Not anymore
Sadly, I was disappointed. At this price point, there are better options in Atlanta.
Quiet, calm, welcoming, MidCentury Modern interior; great lighting, wonderful service; easy access of of I-285 + 400 and outstanding food! The filet + fresh greens was fantastic, as was everything else ordered, especially dessert!
Food was good until dessert. We ordered Apple Cobbler (took 30 minutes to get). Once it arrived, there was NO crust. We had hoped the wait time would be worth it, but BIG disappointment. More like cinnamon glazed apples in a bowl with a SMALL scoop of ice-cream.
Always love coming here. We have been dining there since they opened in 1995 and always get great service. Love their steaks!
The appetizers we had were DELICIOUS! Unfortunately, the service we received failed in comparison. The server was less than enthusiastic, not greeting us upon approaching our table. Plus, we were celebrating a birthday which was never acknowledged, until we asked for the check at which point he brought us the birthday dessert. (That tells us he was aware.) While enjoying our appetizers, the server reached right in FRONT of my husband, to give me a saucer (the whole other side of the table was empty) AND touched my husband's bread that was on his saucer. That was what did it for us after not feeling the service started out in a quality way. There was hardly anyone at this restaurant upon our entry and it was an intial concern.
We went around the corner, to Capital Grille, and received impeccable service upon entering and they even took a quick moment, before seating us, to set the table for a birthday celebration (confetti and a sign).
I do realize our experience may have been solely based on our server's efforts. However, we won't return.
The decorating is very nice. Dark woods, oversized booths The French onion soup was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot. The filet came out medium instead of medium rare and was replaced immediately. Very attentive service. Decent by the glass wine list. Bottled wine list was good. Noise level was CRAZY LOUD!! We could hardly hear our waiter and could definitely not have a real conversation. Felt more like a boys club after work dinner location. The food was excellent but certainly no better than Ruth’s Chris or Capital Grille and at either of those the noise levels are more conducive to a special evening. I would select either of those places before returning to McKendrick’s.
Mike was amazing. He gave us one of the best experiences we have ever had there. Totally cool and very personable. We will have a hard time now deciding between home and Taco. We might need both next time. Thank you Mike. You are amazing
The service was great!
I’ll be back!
Always great food and great service great atmosphere for discussing anything and everything minimal noise level
Always great service, great atmosphere. They have never disappointed me-in over 10 years of taking clients there.
This was not fine, pleasant dining. The waiter was either rushing us or warning that if we didn't make a decision, he wouldn't be back for 20 minutes. The $44 tenderloin was tough. Waiters were removing dishes as some were still eating. The noise level was deafening so one side of our booth couldn't hear across the table. Not an experience you want to repeat.
The shrimp was great. Do not order the scalloped potatoes. They were awful. The waiter did bring us mashed potatoes instead when we complained. It was noisy and not enough servers. However one of the floor managers came to our assistance in paying the check.
Poor service from a waiter overloaded.
Too noisy, table on top of another party.
Great NY strip, table mates lukewarm on Filets.
Not digging this expense account scene anymore, now that I’m retired from the rat race almost 8 years
Great experience for our work meeting with our out of town guests.
We asked for fully private but only semi private was available but it was still private enough for us. Service was excellent and nothing went wrong. Will definitely be back.
This was our second-in-a-row disappointing experience there... We used to LOVE McKendrick's when it was a Dunwoody icon, but clearly, it has lost its luster for us. When one goes to a restaurant with those kind of prices, one expects a certain high-level, minimum standard to be met. For the second time now, we were struck with the average quality of the food. The service last visit was rather bad, and in fairness, this time the service was fine, but again, the food should be much better at this price-point. A premium steakhouse should serve premium-quality food, and McKendrick's - much to our sadness - again missed the mark... It really is too bad. We will move onto other steakhouses in the area.
Great food, excellent service and long term tenure of staff.
A restaurant of this magnitude, you would expect them to o have a baked potato, especially since it is a steak house. However, they ran out and offered me the Potatoes Au Gratin which tasted very bland like potatoes soaked in milk.
Before this happened, I was enjoying a piece of bread and the table attendant took my plate while I was talking g a bite. I found this very rude and unacceptable.
At the end of the meal, since it was my wife’s and I anniversary they gave us a complimentary brownie and never even asked if we would like to order any other desert.
All and all, I will never return. Although the steak and my wife’s flounder was good at best not great. So, Bones is my choice in Atlanta and always will be.
Mckendrick’s the best crab cakes in the city! It’s a nice date night experience.
Fabulous steaks and lobster. Tasty sides and appetizers. Value-priced wines, and professional wait staff.
This is a high-end steakhouse and for the most part they do it up perfectly. I’ve dined here before and gave it 5 Stars but this time would drop it down to 4 Stars. Reason? One of my colleagues and I ordered the same entree, a ribeye steak. He asked for medium, I asked for rare. Plates came and wait staff placed them incorrectly. Never asked who had the medium, who had the rare. Being engrossed in conversation with my two guests, we didn’t realize the mixup until we’d already started eating. Details are important...especially at those prices!
I think $115 for a steak is too expensive in suburban Atlanta. It was the 'special', and no mention of the price when we were told of it. Which is OK if it's $50 or so - but once it get to 3 digits I thin you need to mention that. My guest ordered it. Had he known it was that expensive, I don't think that he would have ordered a rib eye quite that expensive.
Frankly, the wine list is a mess. The list is 'organized' using wine purveyor, not the type or characteristics of the wine. Very strange. This results in a section of the list titled "Louis Latour'. That is just bizarre. I've never experienced that anywhere else. And with good reason. It's time consuming and difficult to work your way through a list like that.
