McGlynns Pub & Restaurant - Polly Drummond Ratings and Reviews
An enjoyable meal. We were there during U. Delaware parent's weekend. The kitchen backed up quickly and despite a reservation we waited 45 minutes for our table. They need to manage on the high flow times a bit better in the kitchen. Our waitress was terrific as well as the bar service while we waited.
Very noisy 24/7 dance music. Folks can get a little rowdy. Waiter was awesome. Chicken wings arrived as ordered - very well done and super crispy. Chilli was a complete let down - less flavor than store bought. I might return if I happen to be in the area and not looking for a quiet dining experience.
We live near this restaurant as does another couple who joined us but neither couple had been there in the last twenty years. We drove by and decided to go for dinner. Turned out to be all-you-can-eat shrimp($12.99) or prime rib ($17.99) night. Both specials were excellent. Looked like the bar was the big attraction but we sat in the next room and could enjoy a quieter atmosphere. We'll be back!
We came for a drink after sports on a Wednesday night, as they have $3.50 drink specials. We also shared a bowl of New England Clam Chowder, which was good. By the way, their nachos are $12.99 unless you come on an NFL game night, then they are $7, so we chose not to order that since it wasn't a game night, though their nachos are good, as I remember. The music is quite loud.
We were seated a good distance back from the front, so we hoped we wouldn't smell the cigarette smoke from the outside. Unfortunately, this was not at all the case. The cigarette smell was VERY strong the entire time we were there. Not being smokers, this bothers both of us a lot. This seems to be getting worse at this place, and we'll consider this in deciding whether or not to chose coming here in the future.
I am very disspointed in this place. Love using the open table app while we are out of town. However the hostess didn't even know what the app was or how to check us in. She looked at us as if we had 3 heads. Needless to say we never even received our points for attentions the restaurant. Food wasn't very good, and our waiter was not very friendly. Extremely disappointed.
The food was good and came out quickly. Good selection of draft beer. The service was very good. Our server was readily available, attentive, and helpful. Our only complaint was the noise level. It was a Friday night, about 8pm and the bar area was very loud and the music was loud, which contributed to the loud talking. Since every table is in close proximity to the bar, the noise is unavoidable. Perhaps it would be better on a different night or not as late.
Considering that 25 wings anywhere else is well over $30, all you can eat wings for $12.99 a person is hard to pass up. Chipotle bbq and Asian sesame are my faves and our server was on top of replenishing the orders. Drink specials are cheap, but weak and choices are limited. Depending on the night there is an interesting crowd to watch on their "dance floor." We go often for wing night, but I must say, we typically end up people watching the odd combination. I guess the location + all you can eat wings + alcohol = family dinner night club old friend reunions
I requested a table where we would have some privacy & extra room for opening gifts because we were celebrating a birthday & they had this all lined up perfectly when we arrived. Our waiter was friendly & attentive......all in all a nice family evening with some casual food!
We were a table of five for dinner on a busy Saturday night. The fried clam appetizer was over breaded and a small portion. The calamari was well cooked, but a very small portion. All the entries arrived cold to warm. They had been sitting somewhere. The two prime ribs were over cooked. The vegetable of the day was greasy, baked potato cold. The tuna was barely warm. The waitress was attentive and responsive, but the meal was a disappointment.
We had a gift card to go there from another of their restaurants where we had a terrible experience with both food and service, so we tried it Saturday night. From being seated incorrectly ( the hostess, when we checked in, assumed we were with a big party that had a reservation--why??, to the wrong order for my drink, to our food and appetizers coming out nearly together, to the place being absolutely filthy--we'd NEVER go back. When the banquet seating is pulled apart, and you can see what's down there--no way. UGH
Tuesdays are half price burger night. Very good burgers. Our experience is that you can't rely on the burger being cooked as ordered though. They never seem to understand "medium" and "medium-well" whenever we go there and order burgers. I've never minded too much though. I like their "stuffed burger" a lot.
Despite having a confirmed booking through OpenTable they claimed no record of it. Fortunately I had a printout of the confirmation but I still had something of a wait. Food was mixed...stuff they only had to reheat (chili and beef stew) were pretty good but stuff that required controlled cooking (fish & chips) was over-cooked, greasy and cold!
I've used them before and they were OK during the day when things are quiet. I will be avoiding it in the evenings...Iron Hill is MUCH better.
Our burgers and fries were very good. We shared a cup of the chili, which also was very good. I did find out that, although it has vodka in it, my Seabreeze is not considered a rail drink here, which were on special tonight for $4, so make sure you ask first.
