McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Washington DC (K Street) Ratings and Reviews
Everything was amazing except for the fact that the notes I had added to my reservation such as where I would like to be seated and that it was for a birthday was not added on there even though I requested it. We were seated by the windows which wasn't bad until they started seating everybody else in the same area, then it became super loud. We asked the waitress to move us to the table that I originally requested and it was no problem at all. Staff was awesome, food was awesome!
You can't fault the food at M&S's. It was top-notch, though you pay for the quality. It's not a cheap-eats place.
My complaints are about the service. Granted, we were a large party, but it took a long time (guessing about 20 minutes) for our entrees to come out after our appetizers were cleared. Then, after our entrees were cleared, we never heard from our waiter again until I flagged him down for our bill. He never came to ask if we wanted dessert, coffee or after-dinner drinks. Eventually, two-thirds of the table left because it was late. A mostly empty table should have given the waiter a clue we wanted to leave, but he walked by several times without checking in on us. Eventually, I hailed him and asked for our check, which be then brought.
In addition, for about 30 minutes during our meal, the fire alarm and alert lights were going off in the restaurant. Our waiter never came by to tell us what was going on or apologize for the noise and disco-effect of the flashing lights. It was bizarre.
I felt the service was just fair overall, from the host that walked up to the stand and didn't greet me before answering the ringing phone, or immediately after once the call was complete. I initiated stating my purpose for being there, informed him of my reservation, which he did not check in on Open Table as OT sent me an email regarding skipping my reservation which is a no-no on Open Table's policies. Additionally, the host would later spill water all over my iPhone when filling my water glass.
The bartender was good but not great. My table had to request flat wear after the meals had arrived, my soup I had to inquire about after the arrival of my entrée, and overall I felt there was no sense of urgency in the serving of the patrons whom many, like myself were dining for lunch. I personally had to resign to mindset of it the outing being a leisurely luncheon on a nice spring day, which was not my intended when I set out.
I had high expectations of M&S, however, it was a little disappointing. My service was not that good. The server was not very personal. He slammed the menus down in front of us and did not really have a great customer service disposition. He was not mean or nasty, I just didnt get that good customer service feel. It was very loud which was unexpected. I felt like I was at an outdoor happy hour. The food was very tasty, however, for the price I would prefer optimal customer service as well.It was not the worst experience but I doubt if I would go again. However, I would be open to trying another location.
We waited forever for simple lunch salad. Waiter never came back to check to see if we needed anything. We finally flagged him down (after watching the people at the table next to us do the same thing) to ask the status of our meal. He simply replied he has said something to the manager already about it taking so long. When the meal came, my meal was incorrect. So I sent it back. After 10 minutes of waiting for my salad to be brought back, I again flagged down our waiter. He simply shrugged and said it should be ready soon. I asked him to please on it. Terrible experience. Waiter didn't even offer to refill water glasses. Everything had to be requested, which wasn't easy because service was terrible.
We tipped generously even though we had substandard service. The food was good but we had to wait a long time for drinks, then salads/soup, then our main dinner items. We had to ask for ground pepper, steak sauce and salt. These items should have been normal items that would have been either brought to the table or asked if we want it
We enjoyed our meal and the table we had but our server was not properly trained. She brought the wrong bottle of wine (double the price of the one we ordered) did not show it to us first but luckily I caught sight of the label before she had it open. She had brought a chilling decanter for an expensive Cabernet Sauvignon. After making the corrections she walked by the table many times without realizing she should refresh our glasses. Otherwise she was very nice but definitely not adequately trained.
I've eaten there several times. This time they weren't together.,I had a 4 pn 1,000 PT Table. They seated me Atl five min to 4, gave me a luncheon menu, but charged me dinner prices. There were several wait staff but they seened scattered, not attentive. It took 15 minutes to get a check. I'd go back, because this was my first experience like this, out of several visits, but I do want my points rectified
The service was great and the staff were too. Our original reservation was for 7 persons and we asked if we could change it to 9 persons when we arrived and they said no problem. We had a great table in a great location and everything worked out just fine. The food was delicious and the service great. Although it was Mother's Day - a day when things can get a little hectic at restaurants - there was no problem at all and everyone in our party was pleased.
This was the most disappointing dining experience at McCormick's. My wife and I have been to McCormick's my times and this was by far the worst experience. The service was very poor and unattentive. The food was poorly perpared and not up to our expectations. We will not being go back ever again!
Booked the table about 15 minutes before arriving for quite a large party (plus 2 infants), and were given the choice of table. We chose a booth which was perfect for our group. Despite being quite secluded, the whole vibe of the restaurant made its way to us making for a great atmosphere.
I've been eating at Landrys M&S, Oceanaire, and McCormick's & Schmick's seafood for over 20yrs+ and usually they are always accommodating, above average food quality and exceptional management and better than average service/knowledgeable staff who usually is very helpful. A few times have I had less than average service. I had to wait a little longer for them to clean table near bar where I wanted to sit by window, a busy spot, and took slightly longer to get water/beverages & refills, but overall pleasant nonintrusive service. Oysters Rockefeller with sautéed spinach are one of my favorites. Please bring back the Coast to Coast Tuna tartare two ways! And Tuesday Lobster contest with $2.95-$5 reverse happy hours! I really miss those. We had Christmas dinner at F St nw from Brooklyn one year, and service and food are always consistent, satisfying. Thanks Bethelheim! I had to wait lil longer 20-30min than usual but always accommodating when I'm late near closing time. The frozen strawberry cheesecake is really frozen, finally melted on my way home for me to enjoy. Please bring back M&S Grill $2-5 happy hours! (you can do away with the crazy blue sea salt though.)
Frankly the quality of McCormick and Schmick's seafood has gone downhill. Two of the three of us ordered the King Crab Legs which were a huge disappointment - dry! I am not sure what is going on with this restaurant chain as I also dined at the Crystal City location and the fish I order was not up to standard.
The restaurant is convenient downtown but the service is always hit or miss. While the food is good, it takes too long to get and that service was especially bad this last time. Adrian was our server and didn't check on us but once. He didn't even get our check; another server ended up getting my payment.
Awful! Took several clients for what was to be a special meal. My clients were all cattle ranchers who know excellent beef. Something McCormick + Schmick's also claim to know, but clearly do not. Orders got totally messed up + delayed. The waiter was condescending + rude; the manager ineffectual. Stay away! Wish I had gone to Capital Grille; Smith + Wollensky's or The Palm.
