McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Washington DC (K Street) Ratings and Reviews
I have been a customer or McCormick & Schmick's often, especially in Chicago and love it. However, my visit to the one on K Street in Chicago was well below par for one reason - service. It took forever to get our drinks. It even took 15 minutes before water was on the table. We had already ordered a dozen oysters before we realized the service wasn't going to get any better. When we complained to the waiter he blamed it on the bar because it was 'Happy Hour'. I guarantee you I was about to drop a whole lot more money on dinner and drinks than anyone in the bar would. We ended up leaving after the oysters and one round of drinks (45 minutes) and went elsewhere to finish our meal.
We did enjoy ourselves and the meals but I was extremely disappointed that no one acknowledged our daughter's birthday. In the Open Table reservation, I specified Birthday - Special Occasion and, again, when we entered and checked in, I re-emphasized at the front desk, we were there to celebrate our daughter's birthday - but no one said or made any kind gesture (lit candle, nice dessert) to celebrate the occasion we were there to celebrate. We may visit your restaurant again in the future but not to celebrate a special occasion.
I’ve come to rely on good service and food from MS but was disappointed in my most recent visit. This was primarily due to the service. Members of my guest party ordered warm tea and were given a cup of hot water absent the customary kettle which was only brought when requested and only after all others received their drinks - how long does it take to get hot water? This was followed by one of my party’s steak being brought out without a steak knife. Took two requests to have it brought out. While these things in and of themselves didn’t kill the evening it’s not the MS service I have come to know and rely on.
Terrible service we sat with no refills had to ask another waiter to bring us something to drink so we could finish our food. We are no check finally we ask to speak to manager she had nothing to say except I will reprimand him and still no service. Asked for the check no dessert recommendations finally just paid and left. Embarrassing.
The filet mignon was over cooked, tough and disappointing. I had Chrismas dinner there last year and it was quite good. It may sound silly but the waiter was over attentive. It was uncomfortable and intrusive. Overall it is not an experience I wish to repeat.
We have been to McCormick's for Christmas Eve 10 out of the last 12 years...in Bethesda, Washington DC and out in Oregon. It's a family tradition. This year, the whole experience was dreadful. We requested a booth, and instead were placed at a round table out in the open...directly next to the front door so each time it opened we got a nice gust of 30 degree wind. And the table was right under a speaker that was blaring Christmas music. I went to the front desk and asked for the music to be turned down. There were 5 people standing there dressed in black and doing nothing (the restaurant was 20% full). They said they would have to ask the manager. Went back to our table and waited on a waiter who had tables all over the restaurant. Food was fine, ambience was atrocious, waiter was doing his best and the 5 people at the check-in desk were just collecting a check. What a disappointing evening. Don't know if there will be a next time...
Not the best McCormick & Schmick's I have been to by far. The service was just ok, nothing great. It took a good amount of time to get our drinks. This was surprising because the restaurant was far from busy. First we were waiting for a mixed drink, then we were waiting for a glass of wine. It was noisier than it likely normally would be due to a couple of bigger tables evidently celebrating the holidays. The food was good, but nothing stellar. For the money, there are other restaurants that represent better value.
Food was good overall, but being a Maryland native, I did not like the crab cake entree. It had too much filler & was very small for the price. Definitely not a $25 meal - and they charged me $1.75 to swap mashed potatoes instead of Orzo. Will not order that entree again. Ordered chocolate silk cake for dessert. Nothing silk about it upon delivery. Too hard, so I took it home. After coming to room temp hours later, it was very good. Restaurant is nice, servers are good (although ours was very slow — 1 1/2 hours for lunch), atmosphere is cozy.
Very disappointed with our server. The restaurant was not over crowded for lunch time, so I am baffled at how non existent she was along with forgetful when she did appear. She left us for a long period with no drinks while we finished our food.
The calamari had way too much breading along with to many pieces of banana peppers, carrots, jalapenos and I think artichoke mixed in with it.
The stuffed shrimp, stuffed salmon and steak (cooked perfectly) were wonderful; the lobster tail left way too much to be desired - it was over cooked and quite small - definitely not worth the $12 I paid.
There are many other places nearby to go to that have top notch service, so I will not return here anytime soon.
We were in town for the holidays and decided to walk around the town and we were really surprised how good and the service was on a Sunday evening. We had the Maryland crab soup and the iceberg edge and both were totally outstanding. We then had the tuna special and the fish and chips. Both were very delicious and we both really enjoyed our evening. If you have not tried McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Washington DC (K Street) you have missed a treat.
Delicious dinner. We asked for a quiet table on the reservation, then called ahead to request again. We were put in a "snug" by ourselves so that we could talk without too much outside noise. My request for additional vegetables instead of the mashed potatoes was nicely accommodated. One of our party of four thought the service could have been better: a request for more bread was forgotten at first and water glasses not refreshed often. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we were allowed to linger over coffee and dessert. I would definitely go again.
Had Thanksgiving dinner here. Was very disappointed in both food and service. Took close to ten minutes after we were seated to have someone acknowledge we were there (restaurant was not full). Looked like there were plenty of bus boys to at least bring water. Ordered the crab tower for appetizer and that did come out pretty quick, but took at least 40 minutes for the rest of our meal— the thanksgiving special (which was all probably pre made already) and a filet mignon, so didn’t order anything complex. Waiter never stopped by durIng the meal to see how everything was. Food was mediocre. No water refills. As we were leaving, I noticed other sections had gotten bread...no one around our table did. I was expecting much more service and food wise especially for the price we paid. Will not recommend this place to anyone.
Overall, it was a very good dining experience. The food was excellent in taste, presentation, and portion. The wine we chose was also excellent and not overpriced. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the lighting was subdued, but it was easy to read the menu, etc. The staff was friendly and professional. There was one minor detractor in the service. Our sever made two order mistakes. One was in the quantity of an appetizer (ordered 8 oysters on the half-shell but received 6); the other was needing reminding about one of our desert orders. Those were minor annoyances, and we still had an overall very good dining experience. We won't hesitate to visit this McCormick and Schmick's again.
Had mentioned it was a spevial occaision, my wife’s birtheday and celebration of my daughter’s college admission, however no recognition was given.
Also not happy getting a 4-person table with an extra chair right beside the entrance.
Service was not as good as should be expected for this kind of restaurant (and as I have experienced from other restaurants in the chain). Not likely to come back to this location.
Food was great! Came out hot and was very tasty! Waiter was a little slow and a little inattentive but it did not spoil the occasion. He was friendly. Just did not worry about our needs. We were never asked about refills on our drinks. Would still visit again though. Love the desserts!! Purchased the caramel crust pie to eat there and the Chocolate bag for later!!
I ordered a cocktail and wanted to swap the vodka for burbon and they did it was a yummy drink....Ruby revival.
We ordered the lump crab tower with avocado and mango vinaigrette and ahi tuna tartare for appetizers and shared the scallops for entree which were seared to perfection!!
